In the projector, light emitted from the illumination optical system is modulated according to image information (image signal) by a liquid crystal light valve or the like, and an image is displayed by projecting the modulated light on a screen.
The illumination optical system of the projector usually includes a light source device, first and second lens arrays,
A superimposing lens is provided. The light bundle emitted from the light source device is divided into a plurality of partial light bundles by a plurality of small lenses provided in the first lens array. The multiple partial ray bundles are
After passing through the second lens array having a plurality of small lenses corresponding to the plurality of small lenses of the first lens array, the light is superimposed on the liquid crystal light valve by the superimposing lens. By using such a lens array, the intensity distribution of the light irradiating the liquid crystal light valve can be made substantially uniform.

Such a lens array is made of a light-transmitting optical material, and a plurality of small lenses arranged in a matrix on a base portion having a substantially rectangular outer shape. Further, the outer peripheral portion of the base portion is generally provided with a flat portion for guiding and holding the lens array to the upper and lower casings of the projector. On the other hand, as a method for manufacturing a lens array, a method of press-molding a flat glass substrate or a translucent resin substrate has been proposed (for example, Patent Document 1).

However, the method of manufacturing a lens array using press molding (mold press molding) has a problem that it is relatively difficult to accurately mold the lens array. This is an optical material that is molded during press molding because it has a substantially right-angled corner in the boundary region between the lens sidewall and the flat part of the outermost peripheral small lens arranged in a matrix on the base. The flow of water is poor, and problems such as insufficient filling and cracking occur. In addition, concentrated stress is generated in the boundary region, which causes deterioration of heat resistance. The generation of concentrated stress in the boundary region is
Internal distortion is given to the small lens, and the light use efficiency of the illumination optical system in the projector is lowered.

In the lens array of the present invention, the optical material having translucency is white plate glass and is chemically strengthened by ion conversion treatment using potassium salt.
According to this, even if the lens array is made of white plate glass optical material and strengthened by ion conversion treatment using potassium salt, even if it is white plate glass with low mechanical strength, the temperature difference is 200. Mechanical strength that can withstand thermal shock strength such as rapid cooling at about 0 ° C. can be obtained.

According to this manufacturing method, the base portion is formed in the substantially rectangular region on one surface of the first mold for molding the first surface of the lens array and the base portion of the lens array to be mold press molded. A second surface including a curved surface formed at a corner portion of a boundary region where the side wall of the outermost small lens of the plurality of small lenses formed by projecting from one surface of the lens and one surface of the base portion intersect A light-transmitting optical material is placed in the cavity of the second mold for molding, and is optically aligned with the second surface of the second mold by molding press molding. Since the material can be easily spread, insufficient filling and cracking can be prevented, and a lens array having a shape that closely follows each molding surface can be molded.

In a manufacturing method for manufacturing a lens array by mold press molding an optical material having translucency,
The lens array is
A plurality of small lenses formed by projecting from one surface of the base portion in a substantially rectangular region on one surface of the base portion;
A lens array in which a curved surface is formed at a corner portion of a boundary region where a side wall of the small lens formed on the outermost periphery of the substantially rectangular region and one surface of the base portion intersect;
A boundary where a first mold for molding the first surface of the lens array, a side wall of the small lens formed on the outermost periphery of the substantially rectangular region, and one surface of the base portion intersect In a cavity comprising a second mold for molding a second surface including a curved surface formed at a corner portion of the region,
A method for producing a lens array, comprising: placing an optical material having translucency and performing mold press molding.
