Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a plugging material and a plugging method for a ceramic honeycomb filter that are suitable for use in an exhaust gas purifying device for an automobile engine, particularly a purifying device for removing particulates in exhaust gas from a diesel engine.
To protect the local environment, a ceramic honeycomb filter with alternately plugged end faces of the inflow and outflow parts of the ceramic honeycomb structure is used to remove particulates mainly composed of carbon in the exhaust gas of diesel engines. Has been.
FIG. 1 is a cross-sectional view of a
As a method for forming the plugged
On the other hand, for the purpose of facilitating the regeneration of the ceramic honeycomb filter having the above structure or improving the purification performance, as shown in FIG. A honeycomb filter provided with 24 is disclosed in Patent Document 2. A method for forming the plugged
By the way, a plugging material is injected into a predetermined flow path using a nozzle that opens below the paste supply body of Patent Document 1 or a tubular member such as a paste injector of Patent Document 2, and a plugging portion is formed. When forming the plugging material, it is necessary to maintain the shape of the plugging portion without injecting the plugging material into the flow channel after injecting with the tubular member, so that the viscosity needs to be high. there were. Therefore, when the plugging material is injected into the flow path from the thin tube of the tubular member, the flow resistance between the plugging material and the tubular member increases, so that the time required for the injection becomes long. Since there are thousands or tens of thousands of flow paths, it takes a very large number of man-hours to inject the plugging material into these flow paths. To avoid this, increasing the amount of water added to the plugging material to improve the fluidity improves the fluidity of the plugging material, but the solid content of the plugging material decreases relatively. Therefore, in the step of drying the injected plugging material, there is a problem that the volume of the plugged portion is reduced due to water evaporation, and the shape of the plugged portion cannot be maintained. In the worst case, a through hole may be formed in the plugged portion due to sink marks generated by reducing the volume of the plugged portion. When the through-hole is formed in the plugged portion, the fine particles in the exhaust gas are discharged without being collected, so that the function as the purification device is not sufficiently exhibited.
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and in a plugging material for a ceramic honeycomb filter that forms a plugging portion by injecting a plugging material into a predetermined flow path using a tubular member, Provided are a plugging material and a plugging method capable of ensuring the fluidity of the plugging material and maintaining the shape of the plugged portion. In particular, the present invention also provides a plugging material and a plugging method for forming a plugging portion at a position away from the inflow side end face.
As a result of intensive studies, the inventor of the plugging material for a ceramic honeycomb filter in which a plugging material is injected into a predetermined flow path using a tubular member to form a plugging portion. In order to ensure fluidity and to maintain the shape of the plugged portion, it works between the ceramic particles in the plugged material by optimizing the formulation of the plugged material. The inventors have found out that it is only necessary to reduce the friction and improve the ability to maintain the shape, and have arrived at the present invention.

It is preferable.
Next, the function and effect of the present invention will be described.
A plugging material for a ceramic honeycomb filter according to the present invention is injected into a predetermined flow path of a ceramic honeycomb structure having a large number of flow paths surrounded by porous partition walls by using a tubular member. A plugging material for a ceramic honeycomb filter, wherein the plugging material is a mixture of a ceramic raw material and at least an organic binder, a polymer surfactant, and water, and the organic binder is 20 The viscosity of a 2% aqueous solution at 2000 ° C. is methyl cellulose and / or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose with a viscosity of 2000 mPa · s or less, and the polymer surfactant is a polycarboxylic acid type polymer surfactant. Have
The organic binder is methylcellulose and / or hydroxypropylmethylcellulose having a viscosity of 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. of 2000 mPa · s or less, so that the organic binder is adsorbed around the ceramic raw material powder which is insoluble particles, Since the friction between the ceramic raw material particles is reduced, the fluidity of the plugging material can be ensured. At the same time, after the plugging material is dried, the organic binder serves to bond the ceramic raw material powders, and the shape of the plugged portion can be maintained until firing.
Furthermore, since the polymer surfactant is a polycarboxylic acid type polymer surfactant, electrostatic repulsion is generated between the ceramic raw material particles in the plugging material, and friction between the ceramic raw material particles is reduced. As a result, the fluidity of the plugging material can be secured, and the amount of water added to the plugging material can be greatly reduced. As a result, since the solid content in the plugging material can be relatively increased, the shape of the plugged portion can be maintained even after the plugging material is injected into the flow path. That is, it is possible to suppress the formation of a through-hole in the plugged portion due to sink marks generated by evaporation of moisture in the plugged material and reducing the volume of the plugged portion in the step of drying the plugged material. It is.
That is, the plugging material of the present invention comprises an organic binder which is methyl cellulose and / or hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose whose viscosity of a 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. is 2000 mPa · s or less, and a polycarboxylic acid type polymer surfactant. As a result, the fluidity of the plugging material can be secured and the solid content in the plugging material can be relatively increased. As a result, it is possible to reduce the time for injecting into the plug and to maintain the shape of the plugged portion.
Here, when the viscosity of the 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. exceeds 2000 mPa · s, the viscosity of the plugging material becomes too high, and the fluidity cannot be imparted to the plugging material, so 2000 mPa · s. Must be: If the organic binder has a 2% aqueous solution viscosity at 20 ° C. of less than 1 mPa · s, it is difficult to maintain the shape of the plugged portion after the plugging material is injected into the flow path. 1 mPa · s or more is preferable. More preferably, it is 15-1500 mPa · s.
In the plugging material of the ceramic honeycomb filter of the present invention, the plugging material is 0.5 to 5.0 parts by mass of the organic binder and 1.0 to 10.0 parts by mass of the polymer surfactant with respect to 100 parts by mass of the ceramic raw material. The reason why it is preferably blended is as follows.
As described above, the fluidity of the plugging material can be ensured when the organic binder is methylcellulose and / or hydroxypropylmethylcellulose whose viscosity of a 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. is 2000 mPa · s or less. In order to sufficiently secure the fluidity, it is preferable to blend 0.5 to 5.0 parts by mass of the organic binder with respect to 100 parts by mass of the ceramic raw material. When the organic binder is less than 0.5 parts by mass, the effect of reducing the friction between the ceramic raw material particles is hardly generated, so 0.5 parts by mass or more is preferable. In addition, when the organic binder is blended in an amount exceeding 5.0 parts by mass, the water retention capacity of the plugging material becomes too large, and conversely, the fluidity decreases, so 5.0 parts by mass or less is preferable. More preferably, it is 0.8-3.0 mass parts.
Further, as described above, since the polymer surfactant is a polycarboxylic acid type polymer surfactant, the fluidity of the plugging material can be secured, and the solid content in the plugging material can be secured. The amount of the plugging portion can be relatively increased, and the shape of the plugging portion can be maintained even after the plugging material is injected into the flow path. In order for the effect of maintaining the shape to work sufficiently, it is preferable to blend 1.0 to 10.0 parts by mass of the polymer surfactant with respect to 100 parts by mass of the ceramic raw material. When the polymer surfactant is less than 1.0 part by mass, the electrostatic repulsive force generated between the ceramic raw material particles in the plugging material is weak, and the amount of water added to the plugging material cannot be reduced so much. Since the solid content in the plugging material does not increase relatively, it may be insufficient to maintain the shape of the plugged portion after injecting the plugging material into the flow path, so 1.0 mass part The above is preferable. In addition, when the amount of the polymeric surfactant exceeds 10.0 parts by mass, excessive addition occurs, and conversely, the solid content in the plugging material is relatively reduced, so 10.0 parts by mass or less is preferable. More preferably, it is 2.5-7.0 mass parts.
In the plugging material of the ceramic honeycomb filter of the present invention, the ceramic raw material is preferably a heat-resistant ceramic material. For example, cordierite, mullite, alumina, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, titanium Those containing one or more of aluminum oxide, lithium aluminum silicate, etc. are suitable, and considering the adhesion with the partition walls constituting the flow path to be sealed, the porous partition wall components of the ceramic honeycomb structure It is more preferable that it is the same composition as.
According to the present invention, the fluidity of the plugging material is ensured in the plugging material of the ceramic honeycomb filter in which the plugging material is injected into the predetermined flow path using the tubular member to form the plugging portion. In addition, a plugging material and a plugging method capable of maintaining the shape of the plugged portion can be provided. In particular, it is possible to provide a plugging material and a plugging method for forming a plugging portion at a position away from the inflow side end face.

The honeycomb filter produced in this example was evaluated as follows when the plugged portion was formed.
Regarding the fluidity of the plugging material, the time required for injecting the plugging material into the predetermined number of channels is evaluated, and the time required for the production is short (○). Among them, those that required a very short time (◎), those that took a long time but could be applied to actual production (△), those that took too much time and could not be applied to actual production Failed (x).
Regarding the shape retention of the plugged portion, whether the shape of the plugged portion is maintained after injecting the plugging material into the flow path is evaluated by the degree of sink marks generated in the plugged portion. Those with a small degree of pass were evaluated as acceptable (◯), and in particular, those with almost no sink marks (◎), those with a large degree of sink marks but with no practical problems (△), the degree of sink marks Those that could not function as a plugged portion were rejected (x).
And, as a comprehensive evaluation, each of the evaluation results of fluidity and shape retention was (◎) (◎), one of which was (◎) or (○) (○), Any of which was (Δ) was evaluated as (Δ), and any one (×) was evaluated as (×).
These results are also shown in Table 1.
As shown in Table 1, the ceramic honeycomb filters produced in Examples 1 to 19 are methyl cellulose having a viscosity of 2000 mPa · s or less of a ceramic raw material and a 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C., which are plugging materials of the present invention. Alternatively, since hydroxypropylmethylcellulose, a polycarboxylic acid type polymer surfactant, and water are blended, the fluidity of the plugging material is ensured, and the eye after the plugging material is injected into the flow path. It turns out that the shape of the sealing part was maintained favorable. Among these, the ceramic honeycomb filter produced in Examples 2, 4 to 7, 9, 10, 13, 14, and 16 to 19 is 100 parts by mass of the ceramic raw material, which is a preferable range of the plugging material of the present invention. On the other hand, since 0.5 to 5.0 parts by mass of the organic binder and 1.0 to 10.0 parts by mass of the polymer surfactant are blended, the fluidity of the plugging material is further ensured, and the plugging material is placed in the flow path. It can be seen that the shape of the plugged portion after the injection was maintained better. Among them, the ceramic honeycomb filters prepared in Examples 4, 6, 9, 13, and 16 have an organic binder whose viscosity of a 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. is 15 to 1500 mPa · s, and 100 parts by mass of the ceramic raw material. On the other hand, 0.8 to 3.0 parts by mass of the organic binder and 2.5 to 7.0 parts by mass of the polymer surfactant are blended, and the more preferable range of the plugging material of the present invention, the fluidity of the plugging material It can be seen that the shape of the plugged portion after the plugging material is injected into the flow path is better maintained.
On the other hand, in the plugging materials of Comparative Examples 1 and 2 in which only the ceramic raw material and water were blended, in Comparative Example 1, since the blending amount of water was small, the plugging material was clogged in the tubular member. I couldn't stop. In Comparative Example 2, the amount of water was larger than that in Comparative Example 1, so that the plugging material was not clogged in the tubular member, but the eyes after the plugging material was injected into the flow path. The shape of the sealing portion was not maintained, sink marks were generated, and a through hole was generated in the plugged portion. In Comparative Examples 3 and 4, the organic binder was methylcellulose having a viscosity of 2% aqueous solution at 20 ° C. exceeding 2000 mPa · s.
Since the viscosity of the plugging material became too high, the fluidity of the plugging material was lowered, and it took too much time to inject the plugging material into the flow path.
