Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fixing method and a fixing device for transferring and fixing an unfixed image formed with a powder particle-like image forming substance (hereinafter also referred to as toner) on a recording medium, and a copier, printer, The present invention relates to an image forming apparatus such as a facsimile or a printing machine.
Conventionally, as an image forming apparatus such as a copying machine, a facsimile, a printer, or a printing machine, a toner image formed on an image carrier by a transfer unit is electrostatically transferred to a sheet-like recording medium such as transfer paper, and then fixed. There are some which obtain a copy or a recorded matter by heat fixing the toner on the recording medium by means.
Further, as in
Further,
However, in
On the other hand, in
Here, the non-uniform deformation of the toner due to the irregularities on the surface of the recording medium will be described.
FIG. 4 is a diagram illustrating the deformation of the toner when it is transferred and fixed onto a transfer sheet as a recording medium in a state where the deformation is not sufficiently performed.
FIG. 4A shows a state before toner transfer and fixing that has been heated and softened on the upstream side of the transfer nip portion. FIG. 4B shows how the toner in the softened state is transferred and fixed. As shown in FIG. 4A, the toner image made of the softened toner T that is not sufficiently deformed on the
The graininess described above represents the roughness of the image. If the reproducibility of dots on the image is good, the roughness of the image is reduced, the graininess is good, and the dot reproducibility is poor. The image appears rough and the graininess is poor.

[Embodiment 1]
A first embodiment in which the present invention is applied to a tandem type color copying machine (hereinafter simply referred to as a printer 1) which is an electrophotographic image forming apparatus will be described below.
FIG. 1 is a schematic configuration diagram of a

The
Each of the
The
The surface of the photoreceptor 3Y is uniformly charged by the charging device 4, and an electrostatic latent image is formed on the photoreceptor 3Y based on image information from an image reading unit (not shown). The electrostatic latent image is visualized as a toner image by a developing device 6Y containing yellow toner, and the toner image is intermediated by a transfer bias between the primary transfer roller 7Y to which a predetermined bias is applied and the photoreceptor 3Y.

Next, the transfer fixing operation will be described.
A toner image T (hereinafter also simply referred to as toner) composed of an image forming material primarily transferred from the
The toner T is transferred to the
At this time, the surface pressure is set to 3 [kgf / cm 2 ] to 7 [kgf / cm 2 ] so that the height of the toner layer is about 40 [%] or less with respect to the upstream of the first nip portion 50, and is narrow. The temperature of the toner to be held is set to be 130 [° C.] to 200 [° C.].
Also, in both cases of a single layer toner using a single color during monochrome printing and a multilayer using two to four toners during color printing, the toner height is approximately 40 [%] to 30 [ %], The change in toner height is in an equilibrium state.
Here, when the fixing condition at the
Since the surface of the
Here, an example of a method for measuring the deformation amount of the toner layer height will be described.
As a measuring device, an ultra-deep shape measuring microscope VK-8550 manufactured by Keyence Co., Ltd. is used, and toner before and after deformation at the first nip portion 50 on the
Deformation amount = toner height after fixing / toner height example without fixing) 0.4 = 4 [μm] (toner height after deformation) / 10 [μm] (toner height before deformation)
The toner T is deformed, so that the wax contained in the toner T is efficiently eluted to the toner surface layer portion to prevent the offset to the
Further, the deformation of the toner T enlarges the area of the image (also referred to as gain), and may cause the line image to be thick or the dots to be thick. However, by preliminarily forming the undeformed toner image T with a smaller area based on the enlargement ratio, it is possible to prevent the line image from being thickened or the dots from being thickened. Furthermore, by forming an undeformed toner image T with a smaller area, the amount of toner T required can be reduced and the running cost can be reduced.
In this way, the toner image is crushed at the first nip and the area is enlarged, so the rate of change of the area is obtained in advance, and the original unfixed image is made smaller so that it becomes the desired area when enlarged. By imaging the image, it is possible to prevent image quality deterioration due to image fatness. Further, since the amount of toner used can be reduced, the toner yield can be improved.
The toner image T formed into a film at the first nip portion 50 is transported to the

In
The toner contains at least one type of WAX from the group consisting of a liberated fatty acid type carnauba wax having an acid value of 5 or less, a montan ester wax, an oxidized rice wax having an acid value of 10 to 30, and a synthetic ester wax. The average dispersed particle size is 0.1 to 1.0 [μm]. Further, the toner has a weight average particle diameter of 2.5 to 5.0 [μm] and an average circularity of 0.95 to 0.99, and the binder resin is 1/2 in the Koka type flow tester. 2 The main component is a polyester resin having an outflow temperature of 110 to 145 [° C.]. The releasability at the first nip portion 50 can be improved, the variation in charging during electrostatic transfer can be suppressed, and the deterioration of image quality such as toner scattering can be prevented. Further, by using a polyester resin as a main component, the deformation and fixing temperature of the toner can be lowered and energy saving can be achieved.
Here, the outflow start temperature will be described.
The toner flow start temperature can be measured using a flow tester. An example of a flow tester is an elevated flow tester CFT500D manufactured by Shimadzu Corporation. The flow curve of this flow tester is the data shown in FIGS. 5A and 5B, from which each temperature can be read. In the figure, Tfb is the outflow start temperature, and the melting temperature in the 1/2 method is the T1 / 2 temperature.
Further, as a configuration of the
In the first embodiment described above, the change in toner height is used as the deformation amount of toner, but the deformation amount of toner may be defined by the change in toner area. Hereinafter, a method for obtaining the deformation amount of the toner by changing the area of the toner will be described.
As a measuring device, an ultra-deep shape measuring microscope VK-8550 manufactured by Keyence Corporation was used, and the toner before and after the change at the first nip portion 50 on the
The toner image to be measured is 1 × 1 to 4 × 4 dots of 300 to 1200 [dpi], a dot image having a diameter of about 25 to 150 [μm], or a width of 1 to 4 dots of 300 to 1200 [dpi], 25 A line image formed by lines having a width of ˜200 [μm] is used.
For the area of the toner image, a value obtained by dividing the area of the toner after deformation after applying heat and pressure by the area of the undeformed toner image before applying heat and pressure is used. In general, the area change rate of the dot image before and after deformation is referred to as dot gain. This is expressed as follows.
Deformation amount (dot gain) = toner area after deformation / toner area before deformation Also in the case of a line image,
Deformation amount = toner line width after deformation / toner line width before deformation.
When measuring changes in the area and line width of a toner image, the line width is one-dimensional measurement and is easy to measure. However, if the deformation (spreading) directions are different in length and breadth, they are compared by area change. The higher accuracy is obtained.
