Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to an organic electroluminescence (hereinafter referred to as “organic EL”) display. More specifically, the present invention relates to a color conversion filter comprising a laminated structure in which stripe patterns of color filters / color conversion layers are arranged on a transparent support substrate. The present invention relates to a multi-color or full-color organic EL display panel provided.
In recent years, diversification of information has progressed, and display devices in the information field, including solid-state image sensors, are required not only for beauty, lightness, thinness, and excellentness, but also for low power consumption and high response. The active development toward that is advanced, and the idea of a high-definition full-color display device is proposed widely.
The organic EL light emitting element has been present since the second half of the 1980s, when an organic EL element having a thin film laminated structure of organic molecules (Non-Patent Document 1) capable of obtaining high luminance of 1000 cd / cm 2 or higher at an applied voltage of 10 V was reported. In contrast to many commercially available liquid crystal displays, research toward the practical application as an element having viewing angle dependency and light response speed has been activated, and some of them have already been commercialized. In addition, many organic EL elements using organic polymer materials as constituent materials including a light emitting material have been proposed.
Since the organic EL element can realize a high current density at a low voltage, it can be expected to have higher light emission luminance and light emission efficiency than the inorganic EL element and LED, and (1) high luminance and high contrast, (2) low driving voltage and Excellent characteristics as a display element such as high luminous efficiency, (3) high resolution, (4) high viewing angle, (5) high response speed, (7) miniaturization and colorization, (7) lightness and thinness It is expected to be applied to multi-color or full-color displays and flat panels that meet the demands of beauty, lightness, thinness, and superiority.
As an example of multi-color or full-color organic EL display, a method is proposed in which light emitters of three primary colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B) are arranged in a matrix and each emits light. (Patent Literature 1,
As another method, a method in which a white light emitter is used as a backlight and three primary colors are separated and transmitted using a color filter has been proposed (Patent Document 4, Patent Document 5, and Patent Document 6). An organic light-emitting body that can be expected to have high-intensity white light required for obtaining high-intensity RGB light has not yet been obtained because it is separated into RGB.
Furthermore, a method has also been proposed in which light emitted from the light emitters is absorbed by the phosphors arranged separately in a plane, and multicolor fluorescence is emitted from each phosphor (Patent Document 7). As a method of emitting fluorescence, CRT, plasma display, etc. have a track record.
In recent years, a color conversion filter method has been proposed in which a fluorescent material that absorbs light in the light emission region of an organic light emitter and emits fluorescence in the visible light region is used in combination with a filter (Patent Documents 7 and 8). In addition, since the emission color of the organic light emitter is not limited to white, an organic light emitter with higher luminance can be used as a light source, and a color conversion filter system using a blue light emitting organic light emitter (Patent Document 7, Patent Document 9, In Patent Document 10), the wavelength of blue light is converted into green light or red light. If such a fluorescent conversion film containing a fluorescent dye is arranged with high density, a full-color light-emitting display can be constructed using energy rays in the near ultraviolet light or visible light range of the light emitter.
FIG. 7 shows a typical cross-sectional structure of such a color conversion filter type full color organic EL display panel. In FIG. 7, 10 is a transparent support substrate, 20 is a color conversion filter, 30 is an organic EL light emitting element, and the
In the organic EL display panel as described above, as a means for preventing display failure at the outermost periphery of the display unit, there is a method of arranging a stripe pattern of the color filter /
A typical manufacturing method of the color conversion filter type organic EL full color display panel is that a color filter /
The color filter /
Flatness suitable for laminating the surface unevenness caused by the formation of the color filter /
On the other hand, as shown in FIG. 7, the stripe pattern of the color filter /
Further, at both ends in the longitudinal direction of the stripe pattern of the color filter /
The uneven coating or repelling of the polymer flattening layer at the outermost peripheral edge of the color filter / color conversion layer pattern is also caused when the color filter / color conversion layer pattern is arranged beyond the display area. This occurs in the same manner, and causes a defective coating of a passivation layer to be formed thereafter and peeling of the insulating layer, which is one of the causes for causing a short circuit of the organic EL light emitting element.
The present invention eliminates uneven coating and repelling of the polymer flattening layer at the outermost peripheral edge portion of the color filter / color conversion layer pattern, and prevents coating failure of the passivation layer and peeling of the first electrode and the insulating layer. Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a stable multi-color or full-color organic EL display panel without a short circuit of the organic EL light-emitting element.
As a result of diligent research to achieve the above object, the present inventors have found that the color filter / color conversion layer of the same color having the same height formed of the same material on both outermost portions of the stripe pattern of the color filter / color conversion layer. By disposing the color conversion layer, the slope of the surface of the polymer flattening layer coated over the color filter / color conversion layer on both outer side portions becomes substantially equal on both outermost side portions of the color filter / color conversion layer. A uniform coating of the polymer flattening layer can be obtained, and more preferably, a color filter / color conversion layer of the same color as described above is further disposed in both longitudinal end regions of the stripe pattern of the color filter / color conversion layer. Has found that the surface of the polymer flattening layer surface wave is eliminated at the longitudinal ends of the stripe pattern of the color filter / color conversion layer, and a uniform coating can be obtained. It was completed a light.

In the fourth embodiment shown in FIG. 5 of the present invention, the color filter / color conversion layer having the same color as the color filter / color conversion layer disposed on one outermost side of the stripe pattern of the color filter /
In the fifth embodiment shown in FIG. 6 of the present invention, the
The color filters / color conversion layers 21a to 21d as the dummy patterns may be any of R, G, and B as long as they are the same color, but are supported by the color filter /

In the first embodiment shown in FIG. 2 and the conventional embodiment shown in FIG. 8, each stripe pattern and
In the second embodiment shown in FIG. 3, each of the color filter / color conversion layer (red (R) in the figure) of the same color as the color filter / color conversion layer located at both outermost portions is a different color filter. / The color conversion layer (in the drawing, the formation length is longer than the pattern of green (G) and blue (B)). The difference in length between the two is preferably 30 μm or more and 200 μm or less. If the thickness is less than 30 μm, the effect of reducing the level difference between the two is reduced. If the thickness exceeds 200 μm, the area of the dummy pattern increases, which adversely affects the panel size. More preferably, they are 70 micrometers or more and 120 micrometers or less.
In the third mode shown in FIG. 4, the dummy pattern 21 b surrounds all the color filters / color conversion layers 21. As another configuration example, the dummy pattern 21b has a U-shape, and the color filter / color conversion layer disposed on one outermost side of the stripe pattern of the color filter / color conversion layer disposed beyond the display area. By using 21 as the other side that closes the U shape, substantially all of the stripe pattern of the color filter / color conversion layer may be surrounded.
In the fourth and fifth modes shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, each of the color filter / color conversion layer (red (R) in the figure) of the same color as the color filter / color conversion layer located at both outermost portions is The formation length is preferably longer than the pattern of the different color filter / color conversion layer (in the drawing, blue (B), or blue (B) and green (G)). Furthermore, it is preferable that the longitudinally outer end portion of the long color filter / color conversion layer and the outer end portion of the

Color filter /
Each of the RGB color filters / color conversion layers 21 includes a color filter layer made of a light-transmitting colored resin containing filter dyes made of RGB dyes or pigments, and a near-ultraviolet region emitted from a light emitter of an organic EL light emitting element. A laminate with a fluorescent color conversion layer containing an organic fluorescent dye that absorbs light in the visible region, particularly light in the blue to blue-green region, and emits visible light in different colors, red to green, and has a color filter function Either the fluorescent color conversion layer or the color filter layer alone, and the layer thickness thereof is 5 to 20 μm, preferably 8 to 15 μm, and most preferably 10 to 13 μm. It is preferable that a non-translucent black mask is disposed between the patterns of the color filter /
The red color filter / color conversion layer 21 (R) usually converts blue to blue-green light from the organic EL light-emitting element into red light on the (R) color filter layer. It is formed by laminating a fluorescent color conversion layer containing an organic fluorescent dye that can be converted into light in a region. Even if the light in the red region is extracted only through the (R) color filter layer using the light in the blue or blue-green region from the organic EL light emitting device as the light source, only very weak output light can be obtained. By using the layer and the (R) fluorescent color conversion layer in combination, it is possible to obtain output light in a red region with sufficient intensity. Alternatively, (R) a fluorescent color conversion layer having a color filter function may be prepared by blending a red filter dye into the fluorescent color conversion layer.
The green color filter / color conversion layer 21 (G) is configured to emit blue to blue-green light from the organic EL light emitting element as a light source on the (G) color filter layer. Alternatively, a fluorescent color conversion layer containing an organic fluorescent dye that can be converted into light may be formed by stacking (G) a fluorescent color conversion layer having a color filter function. When the light from the organic EL light-emitting element sufficiently includes light in the green region, (G) the light in the green region may be emitted only as the color filter layer.
Since the blue color filter / color conversion layer 21 (B) can emit light from the organic EL light-emitting element only in (B) the color filter layer, the light in the blue region can be normally emitted. In order to make the thickness of the color filter layer substantially equal to the total thickness of the color filter / color conversion layers 21 (R) and 21 (G), It is preferable to laminate a transparent resin layer on the layer instead of (B) the fluorescent color conversion layer.
Examples of organic fluorescent dyes that absorb light in the blue region or blue-green region emitted from the light emitter of the organic EL light emitting element and emit red region fluorescence include, for example, rhodamine B, rhodamine 6G, rhodamine 3B, rhodamine 101, rhodamine 110, Rhodamine dyes such as sulforhodamine, basic violet 11 and basic red 2, cyanine dyes, 1-ethyl-2- [4- (p-dimethylaminophenyl) -1,3-butadienyl] -pyridinium perchlorate (pyridine 1) ) -Based dyes and oxazine-based dyes. Further, various dyes such as a direct dye, an acid dye, a basic dye, and a disperse dye having fluorescence can also be used.
Examples of organic fluorescent dyes that emit fluorescence in the green region include 3- (2′-benzothiazolyl) -7-diethylamino-coumarin (coumarin 6) and 3- (2′-benzoimidazolyl) -7-diethylamino-coumarin (coumarin 7). 3- (2′-N-methylbenzimidazolyl) -7-diethylamino-coumarin (coumarin 30), 2,3,5,6-1H, 4H-tetrahydro-8-trifluoromethylquinolidine (9,9a, 1 -Gh) Coumarin dyes such as coumarin (coumarin 153), naphthalimide dyes such as basic yellow 51, solvent yellow 11 and solvent yellow 116 which are coumarin dyes. Various dyes such as direct dyes, acid dyes, basic dyes, and disperse dyes having fluorescence can also be used.
The organic fluorescent dye may be used as it is, such as polymethacrylic acid ester, polyvinyl chloride, vinyl chloride / vinyl acetate copolymer, alkyd resin, aromatic sulfonamide resin, urea resin, melamine resin, benzoguanamine resin and these It may be used as an organic fluorescent pigment kneaded in advance in a resin mixture. These organic fluorescent dyes and organic fluorescent pigments (in the present specification, unless otherwise specified, the aforementioned “organic fluorescent dye” and “organic fluorescent pigment” are collectively referred to as “organic fluorescent dye”) May be used alone, or two or more of them may be mixed and used in order to adjust the fluorescent dye.
The red (R) and green (G) fluorescent color conversion layers are layers in which the organic fluorescent dye is contained in a matrix resin, and the organic fluorescent dye is 0.01 to 5 weight based on the weight of the fluorescent color conversion layer. %, Preferably 0.1 to 2% by weight. When the content of the organic fluorescent dye is less than 0.01% by weight, the wavelength conversion becomes insufficient. On the other hand, when the content exceeds 5% by weight, the color conversion efficiency is lowered due to effects such as concentration quenching.
The matrix resin is made of a resin obtained by polymerizing or crosslinking a photocurable or photothermal combination curable resin composition by light and / or heat treatment to insolubilize it. In order to form a pattern of a color conversion layer containing a matrix resin by a method of exposing and developing a coating film of a photocurable or photothermal combination curable resin composition containing the organic fluorescent dye, photocurable or photothermal combination In the mold curable resin composition, the non-exposed portion of the coating film is preferably soluble in a developing solution such as an organic solvent or an alkaline solution.
Examples of such a photocurable or photothermal combined type curable resin composition include, for example, an acrylic polyfunctional monomer and oligomer having a plurality of acryloyl groups and / or methacryloyl groups, and a photo and / or thermal polymerization initiator. Examples thereof include a resist, a composition composed of polyvinyl cinnamate and a sensitizer, a composition composed of a linear and / or cyclic olefin and bisazide, and a resist composed of an epoxy resin and a photoacid generator.
In particular, resists composed of acrylic polyfunctional monomers and oligomers and light and / or thermal polymerization initiators are excellent in film-forming properties and can be patterned with high precision. It is suitable for use in forming a color conversion layer because of its excellent properties, solvent resistance, heat resistance, and the like, and high reliability.
In addition, these photocurable or photothermal combination type curable resin compositions are transparent resins in which the green and blue color filters / color conversion layers 21 (G) and 21 (B) are composed of a single color filter layer. It can also be suitably used for forming a layer.

Then, the second formed color filter / color conversion layer (21 (G) in FIGS. 1 to 6) with the upper surface inclined outward and the third formed color filter / color conversion layer (21 (R in FIGS. 1 to 6)). )), The third color filter / color conversion layer (21a (R), 21b (R), and 21c (R) in FIGS. 1 to 6) having the upper surface inclined outward is disposed at the right end. .

On the other hand, in the prior art, different color filters / color conversion layers 21, which may be different in height from different materials, are arranged on both outermost portions of the stripe pattern of the color filter /

A more preferable form is a form in which the color filter / color conversion layer 21b is disposed so as to surround the entire stripe pattern of the color filter /
