Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fuel cell system including a fuel cell using a liquid such as methanol and ethanol as fuel, and a manual fuel supply means, and more particularly to a liquid fuel direct type fuel cell system.
In recent years, with the spread of small portable devices such as notebook PCs, small LCD TVs, small CD players, and small DVD players, and the growing demand for energy sources for outdoor work and leisure, there is a craving for portable and portable power supplies that can be used for a long time. Has been. As such a power source, a secondary battery represented by a lithium ion battery or a lead storage battery has already been put into practical use. However, depending on the type of electrical equipment used, there are problems such as not being able to guarantee a sufficient continuous use time and requiring a long time for charging.
Under these circumstances, in recent years, attention has been focused on liquid fuel direct fuel cells using methanol, ethanol or the like as fuel. These liquid fuels have high energy density and are effective in building a power supply for a long time. As an application example of a liquid fuel direct type fuel cell to a portable and portable power source, there is a fuel cell system as in Patent Document 1. This is a fuel cell system including a so-called auxiliary machine that requires a power source such as an electric pump for forcibly supplying fuel or air to the fuel cell body.
FIG. 1 shows a general structure of a fuel cell. In FIG. 1, an
The
As described above, in the case of a conventional liquid fuel direct type fuel cell, it is necessary to provide an auxiliary machine that requires a power source, such as a liquid feed pump. However, in order to drive such an auxiliary machine, it is necessary to consume a part of the output of the fuel cell. As a result, the energy efficiency of the power generation system is reduced, and the high energy density of the liquid fuel is offset. End up. In addition, the fuel supply mechanism is complicated and has a drawback of increasing the size.
In particular, taking DMFC as an example, a fuel cell system that supplies a capillary tube takes time to supply the fuel. Therefore, in order to start up quickly at startup, the catalyst layer and the fuel must always be in contact at the time of OFF. There is. However, in the DMFC, a part of methanol, which is anode fuel, passes through the electrolyte membrane and a crossover phenomenon occurs that reaches the counter electrode, and the fuel that has reached the counter electrode by the crossover phenomenon is there. Therefore, there is a problem in that it cannot be taken out as electricity and is consumed as heat, resulting in a decrease in utilization efficiency of liquid fuel and a decrease in power generation efficiency.
Furthermore, in the case of the conventional liquid fuel direct type fuel cell, since the fuel is continuously and forcibly supplied by a pump or the like, the output is reduced due to insufficient fuel supply even if the mass transfer resistance of the diffusion layer is taken into consideration. Concern was not a fatal problem. However, when a simple and small fuel supply means is used to reduce the size of the power supply system, the force of fuel supply becomes weak, so the mass transfer resistance of the fuel due to the diffusion layer cannot be ignored. In the presence of, output stability cannot be maintained.
The present invention has been made to solve the problems in such a conventional liquid fuel direct fuel cell, and a first object is to collect the electrode on the surface of the catalyst layer opposite to the surface in contact with the proton conductor membrane. A fuel cell system comprising: a liquid fuel direct fuel cell in which is disposed; and a manual fuel supply means. The second object is to obtain a fuel cell system characterized by comprising a simple and small fuel supply means.
The present invention relates to a liquid fuel direct fuel cell in which a pair of catalyst layers are disposed on both surfaces of an electrolyte membrane, and a pair of current collectors are disposed on a surface opposite to the surface in contact with the electrolyte membrane. A fuel cell system comprising a fuel supply unit of the type is provided. Here, the manual fuel supply means includes a spring pump, a bag pump, and a vibration pump.
The fuel supply means of the spring-type pump includes a cylinder connected to each of the fuel tank and the fuel cell by piping, a check valve provided at each pipe and a connecting portion of the cylinder, and a piston incorporated in the cylinder. It is composed of a spring built in the piston so that it returns to its original position when the force is released from the piston, and the fuel is injected from the fuel tank into the fuel cell by repeating the operation of pushing and releasing the piston, or A fuel supply means that can be circulated between the fuel cell and the fuel tank is preferred.
The fuel supply means of the bag-type pump includes an elastic bag-like body connected to each of the fuel tank and the fuel cell by piping, and a check valve provided at a connection portion between each pipe and the bag-like body. And adopting a fuel supply means capable of injecting fuel from the fuel tank into the fuel cell or repeating fuel between the fuel cell and the fuel tank by repeatedly releasing the bag-like body after being crushed You can also.
The fuel supply means of the vibration pump is supplied with fuel by a valve that opens and closes by vibration of the fuel cell. The vibration pump includes at least one spring-type pump, and the spring-type pump is supplied with fuel by an action of a valve that is opened by the pressing force of the weight and closed by releasing the pressing force of the weight. To do.
Further, the present invention provides an electric device in which the fuel cell system is mounted.
The present invention is a liquid fuel direct fuel cell in which a diffusion layer and the like are excluded. The diffusion layer originally plays a role of electrically connecting the current collector and the catalyst layer uniformly within the plane of the electrode, but the process until the fuel reaches the catalyst layer and causes a chemical reaction that contributes to power generation, that is, It can also be a resistance in the diffusion phenomenon. Therefore, according to the present invention, the power supply system can be made to function even by simple manual fuel supply means by adopting a structure that eliminates an element that becomes a resistance to material diffusion.
In addition, when the fuel cell is mounted on an electric device, even if several operations that are possible at hand are sometimes necessary for supplying the fuel, it is within a range acceptable by the user. If the fuel can be supplied with simple operations such as pushing the button from time to time or shaking it occasionally, the user will not feel inconvenient, and it will be possible to eliminate energy consumption by the auxiliary equipment and downsize by simplifying the auxiliary equipment. The merit is greater.
In particular, the present invention enables fuel supply by vibrating a fuel cell system when using a portable device. Therefore, as compared with the case of using an auxiliary machine that consumes conventional power, the circuit for driving the auxiliary machine and the fuel cell power generation unit for the power consumption can be reduced, so that the size can be reduced. In addition, compared to the conventional capillary supply method, when the fuel supply is not in contact with the catalyst layer when the capillary supply method is OFF, the fuel is supplied earlier, so the startup time is quicker. Further, when the fuel is brought into contact with the catalyst layer at the OFF time in the capillary supply method, it is possible to improve the problem of a decrease in fuel utilization due to crossover.
According to the present invention, a compact and simple fuel supply mechanism of a manual type and a fuel cell structure that eliminates an element that becomes a substance diffusion resistance are combined to obtain a small-sized battery fuel system that does not consume energy by auxiliary equipment. In addition, it is possible to obtain an electric device in which the fuel cell system is mounted.
The present invention is characterized in that a pair of catalyst layers are arranged on both surfaces of an electrolyte membrane, and a pair of current collectors are arranged outside the catalyst layer (the surface opposite to the surface in contact with the electrolyte membrane).
