Description
The present invention relates to a fuel cell module configured to be attachable to a portable device as a power source for the portable device, and the portable device.
Polymer fuel cells using solid polymer electrolytes such as polymer electrolytes have high energy efficiency, are thin, small and light, and are therefore being actively developed for household generation systems and automobiles. As a conventional structure of such a fuel cell, it is disclosed in the following Non-Patent
As shown in FIG. 13, an
On the other hand, with the development of IT in recent years, lithium ion secondary batteries are used for most power sources of mobile devices (portable devices) such as mobile phones, notebook computers, and digital cameras. However, power consumption tends to increase as these mobile devices become more sophisticated, and attention has been focused on clean and highly efficient fuel cells for the power supply.
In the laminated structure as shown in FIG. 13 described above, there is room for improvement in terms of reduction in thickness and weight required as a power source for portable devices. Further, as a structure using a fuel cell as a power source of a mobile phone, there is a fuel cell mounted device disclosed in
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object thereof is to provide a fuel cell module that does not impair the portability of a portable device when the fuel cell is used as a power source for the portable device. It is.
In order to solve the above problems, a fuel cell module according to the present invention includes:
As a power source for portable equipment, a fuel cell module configured to be attachable to a housing provided in the portable equipment,
A circuit board having a front surface and a back surface;
At least one fuel cell mounted on the surface;
An electronic circuit mounted on the back surface;
And a fuel supply device that is disposed on the back surface side and supplies fuel to the fuel cells.
The fuel cell module having this configuration can be attached to a housing provided in a portable device. For example, a polymer battery used in a mobile phone, an AA battery or an AAA battery used in a PDA. The module can be mounted by the same operation as that for mounting the etc. Further, the module has a circuit board, at least one fuel cell is mounted on the front surface, and an electronic circuit is mounted on the back surface. Examples of the electronic circuit include a booster circuit for boosting the output voltage of the fuel cell. A fuel supply device for supplying fuel to the fuel cells is also disposed on the back side of the circuit board. In this way, necessary components can be efficiently arranged using the circuit board. The fuel cell module having such a configuration can arrange components in an orderly manner using a circuit board, and can be finished into a single compact shape. As a result, it is possible to provide a fuel cell module that does not impair the portability of the portable device when the fuel cell is used as a power source in the portable device.
In the present invention, the distinction between the front and back surfaces of the circuit board is referred to as such for convenience and does not limit which is the front or back surface depending on the direction in which the circuit board is mounted.
A fuel cell according to the present invention includes a plate-shaped solid polymer electrolyte, a pair of electrode plates disposed on both sides of the solid polymer electrolyte, and a pair of metal plates disposed further outside the electrode plate. It is preferable that the periphery of these metal plates is sealed with caulking with an insulating layer interposed therebetween.
By configuring a fuel cell based on a plate-shaped solid polymer electrolyte, the thickness of the cell can be reduced. As a result, the module can also be reduced in thickness and made into a compact shape. In addition, by sealing the periphery of the pair of metal plates with caulking (bending press) via an insulating layer, the cells are reliably sealed for each cell without increasing the thickness while preventing a short circuit between them. be able to. Further, since the cell is not required to be rigid as compared with the conventional structure shown in FIG. 13, each fuel cell can be significantly reduced in thickness. Furthermore, since a solid polymer electrolyte and a metal plate are used, a free planar shape and bending are possible, and a small, lightweight and free shape design is possible.
In the present invention, of the pair of metal plates, the cathode side metal plate is preferably provided with an air intake opening. According to this configuration, since air can be naturally supplied from the opening of the cathode side metal plate, an electrode reaction can be caused in each electrode plate by supplying fuel from the inlet of the anode side metal plate. An electric current can be taken out from the metal plate in contact with the electrode plate.
A fuel supply apparatus according to the present invention includes a hydrogen generation cell and a water storage cell for supplying hydrogen to a fuel battery cell, and a pure iron powder is enclosed in a flat rectangular parallelepiped container in the hydrogen generation cell. It is preferable that hydrogen is generated by reacting with water fed from the water storage cell.
As a hydrogen generation cell, pure iron powder is sealed in a container and reacted with water to generate iron oxide and hydrogen, and the generated hydrogen can be used as a fuel for the fuel cell. In addition, pure hydrogen is produced, and carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and the like are not generated in addition to that, so that it does not adversely affect the environment.
In the present invention, it is preferable that a metal pressing member for fixing the fuel battery cell to the circuit board is provided, and the pressing member also has a function of connecting the electrode of the fuel battery cell to the electronic circuit.
According to this configuration, the fuel cell can be fixed to the circuit board by the pressing member. Moreover, since the pressing member is made of metal, electrical connection between the electrode of the fuel cell and the electronic circuit can be performed by the pressing member. Thereby, the structure of a module can be simplified and size reduction can be achieved.
The electronic circuit according to the present invention preferably includes a booster circuit for boosting the output voltage of the fuel cell to a voltage suitable for the portable device. The value of the voltage that can be taken out by one fuel battery cell is as low as 0.5 V, for example, and the voltage value required for the electronic circuit inside the portable device is as high as 5 V, for example. Therefore, by incorporating a booster circuit, a desired voltage can be taken out using a small number of fuel cells.
A preferred embodiment of a fuel cell module according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 shows a state in which a fuel cell module (hereinafter simply referred to as “module”) according to the present invention is mounted on a PDA (personal portable information device: equivalent to a portable device). FIG. 2 is a plan view showing the main configuration of the module. FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view schematically showing the configuration of the module.
FIG. 1 shows the back side of the
As shown in FIG. 2, two fuel cells S <b> 1 and S <b> 2 are mounted on the surface of the
Each fuel cell S <b> 1, S <b> 2 is provided with a pressing
As shown in FIG. 3, the fuel cells S <b> 1 and S <b> 2 are arranged side by side in a plane, and are fixed to the
A booster circuit (corresponding to an electronic circuit) is provided on the back surface of the
Further, it is preferable to provide a stabilization circuit as the electronic circuit. Since the output voltage from the fuel cells S1, S2 has a fluctuation component, a predetermined output voltage can be supplied to the portable device by providing a stabilization circuit. As the stabilization circuit, a known circuit configuration including a transistor and a Zener diode can be used.
A
The chemical reaction for generating hydrogen is as shown in the following formula.
[Chemical 1]
4H 2 O + 3Fe → Fe 3 O 4 + 4H 2
That is, when water (steam) is supplied to pure iron particles, they react to produce iron oxide and hydrogen gas. This chemical reaction does not generate gases that adversely affect the environment, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. In other words, it can be said that it is clean energy. Only hydrogen gas (pure hydrogen) is supplied to the fuel cells S1, S2.
The chemical reaction in the
The
The back surface of the
The fuel cell module according to the present invention is preferably configured to be recyclable. Therefore, it is preferable to configure the package so that the

Next, a preferred embodiment of a fuel cell (unit cell) used in the fuel cell module according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 5 is an assembled perspective view showing an example of the unit cell of the fuel cell of the present invention, and FIG. 6 is a longitudinal sectional view showing an example of the unit cell of the fuel cell of the present invention.
As shown in FIGS. 5 to 6, the fuel cell of the present invention includes a plate-shaped

In addition, for example, a porous film made of a fluororesin such as polytetrafluoroethylene impregnated with the above Nafion or other ion conductive material, a porous film made of a polyolefin resin such as polyethylene or polypropylene, or a non-woven fabric. A material carrying Nafion or another ion conductive material may be used.

In general, the
For example, when hydrogen gas and air are used, the
As the catalyst, at least one metal selected from platinum, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium, silver, nickel, iron, copper, cobalt, and molybdenum, or an oxide thereof can be used. A supported one can also be used.
