オーガ2・11の駆動機構を複雑なものとすることなく、幅広の除雪作業部を有する除雪装置1が得られ、作業幅が広くなることによって作業効率を向上できる。例えば、道路の除雪作業の場合、幅広い道路では両側の側部除雪部30L・30Rを両側に広げて除雪作業を行い、狭い道路や橋を通過する場合等ではその幅に合わせて、側部除雪部30L・30Rの左右一方または両側を上方に折り畳んで除雪を行う。また、駐車場内の除雪作業では、入口を通過するときには左右両側の側部除雪部30L・30Rを折り畳んで進入し、駐車場内では両側を広げて幅広く作業を行うのである。こうして、前後何度も往復して除雪作業を行うことなく作業時間を短縮することができる。また、複線の線路上の除雪作業では、往路または復路で側部除雪部30L・30Rを広げて除雪作業を行うことで、一回の往復除雪作業で複線の線路上及び線路と線路の間の部分の除雪もできるようになるのである。
そして、除雪装置1や除雪車両100をトラック等によって運搬する場合には、側部除雪部を折り畳んで収納して幅狭として、容易にトラック等の荷台に積み込めるようになる。また倉庫等へ格納する際にも収納スペースが小さくなり、旋回半径も小さくなり、操作もし易くなる。つまり、トラック等への積載効率や収納効率を向上させることができる。そして、オーガ2・11の駆動機構が複雑にならないため、製造コストの低廉化も実現できる。
