Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a fuel cell in which a fuel cell is sandwiched between separators.
In recent years, various fuel cells have been used with increasing environmental problems and energy problems. Among these fuel cells, those having a cell constituted by sandwiching an electrolyte membrane between an anode side electrode and a cathode side electrode and a separator sandwiching the cell are well known (for example, patents). Reference 1). Then, for example, by supplying a fuel gas containing hydrogen to the anode side electrode and supplying an oxidant containing oxygen to the cathode side electrode, power generation is performed by an electrochemical reaction.
Therefore, there is known a technique in which fuel gas is humidified to form a supersaturated water gas, and then this fuel gas is supplied to the anode side electrode via a supply path provided in the separator.
However, according to the above configuration, a device for supplying water to the anode-side electrode or the like is required, and there is a problem that the fuel cell itself becomes complicated and large.
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a fuel cell that can always obtain good power generation performance without supplying water from the outside.
In order to solve the above problems, the present invention provides the following means.
The invention according to claim 1 is a fuel cell comprising: a cell having an anode side electrode and a cathode side electrode arranged opposite to each other; and a separator having a fuel supply groove for supplying fuel to the anode side electrode. Water that circulates the water generated in the cathode side electrode toward the anode side electrode, stores the water circulated by the circulation means, and supplies the stored water to the anode side electrode. A storage unit is provided.
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, the water generated in the cathode side electrode is circulated by the circulation means, and the circulated water is stored in the water storage unit. Then, water is supplied from the water storage unit to the anode side electrode.
Thereby, not only can the water generated in the cathode side electrode be used as reaction water for the anode side electrode, but the wet state of the anode side electrode can be maintained by the water.
According to a second aspect of the present invention, in the fuel cell according to the first aspect, the separator is made of a porous material having a plurality of holes, and the water storage portion is constituted by the holes.
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, the water recirculated by the recirculation means is stored in the plurality of holes of the separator made of a porous material, and water is supplied from the plurality of holes to the anode side electrode.
Thereby, the circulated water can be reliably stored and supplied with a simple configuration without increasing the number of parts.
According to a third aspect of the present invention, in the fuel cell according to the first or second aspect, the circulating means includes an electrolyte membrane provided between the cathode side electrode and the anode side electrode. The membrane moves water using capillary action between the cathode side electrode and the anode side electrode so that the water pressures of the cathode side electrode and the anode side electrode are equal.
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, since water is generated at the cathode side electrode during operation of the fuel cell, the water pressure at the cathode side electrode is higher than that at the anode side electrode. Therefore, due to the capillary phenomenon of the electrolyte membrane, the water on the cathode side electrode moves toward the anode side electrode through the electrolyte membrane until the pressure difference between the two electrodes disappears. When a predetermined amount of water is not stored in the water storage unit, the water circulating from the cathode side electrode is sent to the water storage unit and stored there.
Thereby, the water produced | generated in the cathode side electrode can be reliably circulated by the simple structure using a natural phenomenon, and the wet state of an anode side electrode or an electrolyte membrane can be maintained.
According to a fourth aspect of the present invention, in the fuel cell according to any one of the first to third aspects, oxygen necessary for the cathode reaction is taken from the atmosphere by opening the cathode side electrode to the atmosphere. And a shutter for opening or blocking the cathode side electrode to the atmosphere.
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, during operation, the shutter is opened and the cathode electrode is opened to the atmosphere. Then, oxygen in the atmosphere is taken into the cathode side electrode. On the other hand, when the operation is stopped, the shutter is closed to cover the cathode side electrode. Therefore, the cathode side electrode is cut off from the atmosphere when the operation is stopped.
Here, if the operation is stopped with the cathode side electrode open to the atmosphere, water is not generated at the time of the operation stop, so water is evaporated from the cathode side electrode, and the cathode side electrode, the anode side electrode, etc. are dried. End up. And the appropriate battery characteristic will no longer be acquired by those drying.
In the present invention, the cathode side electrode is cut off from the atmosphere by closing the shutter, so that it is possible to prevent water from evaporating from the cathode side electrode and escaping to the atmosphere when the operation is stopped. Therefore, not only can the wet state of both electrodes and the electrolyte membrane be reliably maintained, but also the water utilization efficiency can be improved.
The invention according to
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, the cathode electrode is opened to the atmosphere or blocked from the atmosphere by the sliding door type or curtain type shutter.
Thereby, drying of both electrodes and electrolyte membrane can be prevented easily and reliably.
According to a sixth aspect of the present invention, in the fuel cell according to any one of the first to fifth aspects, a discharge path for discharging the gas generated in the anode side electrode, and the discharge path are provided. And an on-off valve.
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, during operation, the gas generated in the anode side electrode is discharged through the discharge path, and when the operation is stopped, the anode side electrode is shut off from the atmosphere by closing the on-off valve.
Thereby, when the operation is stopped, it is possible to prevent moisture from being diffused from the anode side electrode, and it is possible to more effectively prevent the both electrodes and the electrolyte membrane from being dried.
The invention according to
In the fuel cell according to the present invention, dimethyl ether is supplied to the anode side electrode.
Here, methanol, which is one of the fuels used in the fuel cell, is toxic and difficult to handle, and when methanol is used, the fuel utilization efficiency decreases due to the crossover phenomenon.
In the present invention, by using dimethyl ether as the fuel, the handling of the fuel can be facilitated and the utilization efficiency can be improved.
According to the present invention, it is not necessary to provide a device for supplying water, and it is possible to easily reduce the size and maintain the wet state of the anode side electrode, the electrolyte membrane, etc., and always have good power generation performance. Obtainable.
Example 1
Hereinafter, the fuel cell in the Example of this invention is demonstrated with reference to drawings.
The fuel cell 1 uses, for example, dimethyl ether as a fuel, and includes a unit cell (cell) 2 for generating power as shown in FIG. The fuel cell 1 is configured by sandwiching the

As shown in FIG. 1, the
The anode
The anode
The
As described above, the
The
Further, the
The configuration of the anode
In addition, as shown in FIG. 3, the fuel cell 1 according to the present embodiment includes an opening / closing
Next, the operation of the fuel cell 1 in this embodiment configured as described above will be described.
First, before the fuel cell 1 is operated, the on-off
Among these generated substances, electrons flow as an electric current through the external circuit to the cathode
Then, oxygen in the air supplied from the air blower through the
In this way, the current generated by the electrons flowing in the external circuit is used as a direct current.
Here, conventionally, it has been necessary to separately provide a device for supplying water to the anode-
During operation, since water is generated in the cathode
When the operation is stopped, the anode-
As described above, in the fuel cell 1 according to the present embodiment, not only the water generated in the cathode
Further, the wet state of the anode
In addition, since no device for supplying water is required, the entire fuel cell 1 can be easily downsized.
Moreover, since the
Furthermore, since the movement of water between the anode-
Furthermore, since the on-off
In addition, since dimethyl ether is used as the fuel gas, it can be handled more easily than methanol, and the utilization efficiency of the fuel gas can be improved.

(Example 2)
Next, a second embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 5 shows a second embodiment of the present invention.
In FIG. 5, the same components as those shown in FIGS. 1 to 4 are denoted by the same reference numerals, and the description thereof is omitted.
This embodiment and the first embodiment have the same basic configuration, and differ in the following points.
The fuel cell 1 in the present embodiment has a configuration in which the
Here, during the operation of the fuel cell 1, the water generated in the cathode
That is, when the operation is stopped, water is not generated in the cathode
Therefore, the anode
From the above, not only can the same effect as described above be achieved, but also an apparatus for supplying air necessary for the cathode reaction is not required, thereby further simplifying the configuration of the entire fuel cell 1 and facilitating miniaturization. can do.
Further, since the cathode
In the present embodiment, two

From the above, not only the same effects as in the second embodiment can be obtained, but also water can be prevented from evaporating from the anode

Under such a configuration, when the fuel cell 1 is operated, the opening

Under such a configuration, during operation of the fuel cell 1, the shielding
As described above, the same effects as in the fourth embodiment can be obtained.

Next, a sixth embodiment of the present invention will be described.
FIG. 14 shows a sixth embodiment of the present invention.
In this embodiment, the
Under such a configuration, when the fuel cell 1 is operated, the
As described above, the same effects as in the fifth embodiment can be obtained.
