Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a display device and a method for manufacturing the display device, and more particularly to a method for manufacturing a display device including a plurality of self-luminous elements.
In recent years, organic electroluminescence (EL) display devices have attracted attention as flat display devices. Since this organic EL display device is a self-luminous element, it has a wide viewing angle, can be thinned without requiring a backlight, has low power consumption, and has a high response speed. ing.
Because of these characteristics, organic EL display devices are attracting attention as potential candidates for next-generation flat display devices that can replace liquid crystal display devices. Such an organic EL display device is configured by arranging organic EL elements having an organic active layer containing an organic compound having a light emitting function between an anode and a cathode as an array substrate in a matrix.
As a typical method for realizing an organic EL display device capable of color display, there is a method of arranging color pixels that emit light in three colors of red (R), green (G), and blue (B). However, there is a problem that only about 20% of the light generated in the organic EL element can be extracted outside. For this reason, if sufficient luminance is to be obtained, it is necessary to supply a large current into the organic EL element, leading to a rapid deterioration of the organic EL element.
According to Patent Document 1 described above, the light scattering layer is formed using a coating technique such as spin coating, blade coating, or screen printing. However, in a normal photolithography process for forming the pattern of the light scattering layer, it diffuses to the periphery immediately after being applied until it is cured, or the film thickness decreases during development. It is difficult to obtain a light diffusion layer having a desired film thickness. For this reason, the subject that light extraction efficiency cannot fully be improved may arise.
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and an object of the present invention is to provide a display device and a display device manufacturing method that can improve display performance and have a good manufacturing yield. is there.

Hereinafter, a display device and a method of manufacturing the display device according to an embodiment of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. In this embodiment, a self-luminous display device such as an organic EL (electroluminescence) display device will be described as an example of the display device.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 2, the organic EL display device includes an
Each pixel PX (R, G, B) is supplied via the
Each pixel PX (R, G, B) includes an organic EL element 40 (R, G, B) as a display element. That is, the red pixel PXR includes an organic EL element 40R that emits light corresponding to the red wavelength. The green pixel PXG includes an
The various organic EL elements 40 (R, G, B) have basically the same configuration, and are arranged to face the
Further, the

As shown in FIG. 2, the
この第1電極60は、ここではITO(Indium Tin Oxide:インジウム・ティン・オキサイド)やIZO(インジウム・ジンク・オキサイド)などの光透過性を有する導電部材によって形成され、陽極として機能する。
The
The organic
この第2電極66は、例えばCa(カルシウム)、Al(アルミニウム)、Ba(バリウム)、Ag(銀)、Yb(イッテルビウム)などの電子注入機能を有する金属膜によって形成され、陰極として機能している。
The
Further, the
In the
By the way, since the
Therefore, in this embodiment, the
In this embodiment, the
That is, the
In this embodiment, the insulating
The high
The second refractive index nb of the
The
Such a high
Therefore, in this embodiment, in order to prevent diffusion of the formed resin material, the

Next, a method for manufacturing the display device having the above-described configuration will be described.
First, as shown in FIG. 4A, a
Subsequently, as shown in FIG. 4B, a
Subsequently, as shown in FIG. 4C, a high
Subsequently, as shown in FIG. 4D, a display element including a waveguide layer having a refractive index lower than that of the high refractive index material is formed on the high

In the color display type active matrix organic EL display device formed in this way, it was possible to obtain luminance nearly four times that of the conventional method, and good display performance was realized. In addition, it is not necessary to supply a large current to the element in order to improve luminance, and deterioration of the element can be suppressed, so that sufficient performance as a product can be maintained over a long period of time.

For example, the structure of the organic EL element applicable in the present invention may be anything as long as it exhibits its function. That is, a device in which an organic active layer is formed by a vapor deposition patterning method using a low molecular material or a device in which an organic active layer is formed by an ink jet method using a high molecular material may be used.
