Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a technique for setting a printer image forming method with a computer.
When a printer is connected to a computer and image data created by the computer is to be formed on a recording medium such as paper by the printer, it is necessary to incorporate software called a printer driver prepared for each printer model in the computer. The printer driver is used to perform processing for setting various information such as paper to be printed by the operator and an image forming mode (clean, standard, fast, etc.) prepared in advance for the computer. As a result, preparation for image formation using the printer is completed.
Various information for image formation that has been input is converted into a data format unique to the printer so that the printer driver can form an image with the printer. For example, RGB 8-bit images are color-converted into YMCK 8-bit images. Also, 8-bit data is binarized and converted to 1-bit data. The resolution is converted from a resolution of 300 dpi to a resolution of 1200 dpi. Etc. There are various conversion methods for these conversions depending on the purpose.
When the printer-specific data format and image forming mode converted by the printer driver are transmitted to the printer, the printer performs various processes according to the image forming mode to form an image. For example, in an inkjet printer or the like, an image is divided and formed such that the number of head reciprocations matches the image forming mode, that is, one pass, two passes, and four passes.
An image is formed from the printer by outputting ink from the head in a timely manner while moving the recording medium and the head.
In addition, although various methods are known as printer recording methods, the ink jet method is available because non-contact recording is possible on recording media such as paper, colorization is easy, and silence is high. In recent years, however, the recording head is equipped with a recording head for ejecting ink according to desired recording information, and recording is performed while reciprocating in a direction perpendicular to the feeding direction of a recording medium such as paper. In general, the serial recording method to be performed is widely used because it is inexpensive and easy to downsize.
In recent years, digital cameras and personal computers have become widespread, and ink jet printers are required to perform various types of processing such as higher speed, higher image quality, and improved running costs in accordance with their purposes.
However, in the above-described conventional technique, combinations other than items prepared in advance by the printer driver cannot be input as various information such as image forming conditions set by the operator. Also, the printer could not do anything other than a combination of processing contents prepared in advance. This is because it is difficult for the operator to make fine adjustments to the processing, and it is difficult to obtain a desired image and a processing speed that the user really wants to obtain. Even if fine settings can be made, it is difficult for the user to understand the subtle differences in the setting items.
In addition, even if various information such as image formation status is set to the same parameter from the printer driver, the formed image can be obtained depending on the printer model, the type of recording medium, whether the image content is text, graphics, or a photograph. Are all slightly different. The cause of the difference in the obtained image is often related to the process unique to the printer driver or the process unique to the printer, and it is very difficult for the operator to understand and set the difference.
In addition, since the trade-off relationship between superiority and adverse effects in image formation is often specific to the printer model, the operator has the advantage when forming an image with various information such as the image formation condition that has been set. In many cases, the trade-off relationship between the image quality and the harmful effect cannot be understood. For example, when the high-speed image formation mode is set, the image is disturbed, such as unevenness of the image more than the operator thought. there were.
These shortcomings are a major issue today, where it is desired to provide a system that can more easily form an optimal image desired by the operator.
The present invention has been made in view of the above situation. Even if the operator does not have knowledge of processing unique to the printer, trade-off between superiority and adverse effect, and the like, the image forming condition is finely defined on the printer driver. An object of the present invention is to provide an image forming system that can form an optimum image that an operator wants to obtain without setting.
Therefore, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention is configured as follows.
In an image forming system in which a display device, an input device, and a printer are connected together, the image forming system includes means for converting image data output from an application program into an acceptable data format unique to the printer, and returns the status of the image forming result. An input window is displayed on the display device, and the result input in this window is held as a control parameter table. The next time the formed image data is output to the printer, the contents of the control parameter table are taken into account and the printer-specific acceptable By having a means to convert the data into a data format, it is possible to form an optimal image that the operator wants to obtain.
In addition, the control parameter table is sent to the printer, and an image forming unit in the printer forms an image according to the sent parameter, so that an optimum image desired by the operator can be formed.
In addition, by displaying an input window in which the operator returns the image formation result on the display device at intervals of a fixed number of image formations, it is possible to form an optimal image desired by the operator in a timely manner.
In addition, by providing a plurality of control parameter tables for each connected printer, it is possible to form an optimal image desired by the operator.
In addition, by providing a plurality of control parameter tables for each paper type on which an image is to be formed, an optimum image desired by the operator can be formed.
In addition, by providing a plurality of control parameter tables for each graphic area, character area, and photo area included in the image, an optimum image desired by the operator can be formed.
In addition, by having multiple control parameter tables reflecting the image formation results input by the operator for each of the representative modes (fast mode, standard mode, and beautiful mode) set by the operator, it is possible to obtain the optimum control parameter desired by the operator. An image can be formed.
In addition, after an image is formed by the printer, an input window for returning the image formation result to be displayed on the display device is displayed so that the trade-off relationship between the advantages and disadvantages of the setting items of the printer can be understood. Easy-to-understand operation window.
As described above, according to the present invention, the evaluation of the formed image is put into the control parameter table, and the evaluation is accumulated in the control parameter table, so that the image forming process by the computer and the image forming process by the printer are performed. By making subtle changes, it will approach the image formation desired by the operator in a timely manner.
Further, by allowing the image evaluation to be individually entered according to the contents of image formation such as (characters) (photographs) (figures), etc., the image formation is closer to the image formation desired by the operator.
Further, by having the image evaluation as a control parameter for each printer model and for each paper type as a recording medium, the image formation is closer to the image formation desired by the operator.
Further, when the processing is changed, the operator is informed of the trade-off relationship between the superiority and the harmful effect, thereby approaching the image formation desired by the operator.

FIG. 3 shows a confirmation screen displayed on 17 display devices. This is a screen for instructing an image formation instruction by an operator, and after the image is formed by 25 printers, an indication of how to adapt the formed image, in particular, what kind of image is to be formed at the next image formation. It is. The column 51 indicates the mode of the formed image such as (Premium) (Standard) (Fast). The
FIG. 4 is a control parameter table storing control data reflecting the result input on the screen of FIG. This parameter table is stored in 12 non-volatile memories. Since 71 has a parameter for each model name, it stores the model name of the printer. Since 72 has parameters for each image forming mode, it stores image forming modes such as (standard) (clean) (fast). 73 stores control contents such as (ink ejection amount) (color shade) (pass number). 74 is the mode stored in 72 in the printer stored in 71 and contains the parameter of the control content stored in 73. Here, it is shown that the ink ejection amount in the standard mode of the model ABC is 79%. 75, a plurality of parameters for the image forming mode (clean) of model ABC are stored as in the (standard) mode.
FIG. 5 is a control flowchart operating in 14 computers. The control contents of the operating system unit of the
FIG. 6 is a control flowchart of 25 printers. The control contents of 31 printer programs will be described with reference to the flowchart of FIG. 6 and the configuration block diagram of the printer of FIG. In S20, it is determined whether an image formation instruction is received from the computer via the
By performing such a series of processing, the operator inputs an evaluation of the formed image, and the processing parameters are subtly changed. By repeating this processing, an image targeted by the operator can be created. I can do it.

FIG. 9 is a control flowchart operating inside 14 computers in the second embodiment. Starting from S40, it is determined in S40 whether or not a print instruction has been received from the application. If the print instruction has not been received, the process proceeds to S42 to determine whether or not the power-off button has been pressed. If the power off button has been pressed, this flowchart ends. If the power off button is not pressed in S42, the process returns to S40. If the board has received a print instruction in S40, the process advances to S41 to prompt the operator to input the model for printing the image, the type of paper to be printed, the print mode, and where the paper is to be fed from. When the operator finishes the input, the process proceeds to S43, and the parameters of the paper type and mode on which the image is to be formed are read from the control parameter table of FIG. Proceeding to S44, one pixel of the image to be formed is read. In S45, it is determined whether or not this pixel is in the character area. In the case of the character area, the process proceeds to S46, and the character area table is selected as the color conversion table. Proceeding to S47, the binarization table for the character area is selected as the dither table used for binarization, and the process proceeds to S53. If it is determined in S45 that the area is not a character area, the process proceeds to S48, and it is determined whether or not the read pixel is in the graphic area. In the case of the graphic area, the process proceeds to S49, and the graphic area table is selected as the color conversion table. Proceeding to S50, a dither table for the character area is selected as the binarization table, and the process proceeds to S53. If it is determined in S48 that the area is not a graphic area, the process proceeds to S51, where the read pixel is determined to be a photographic area, and a photographic area table is selected as the color conversion table. Proceeding to S52, a dither table for the photographic area is selected as the binarization table. In S53, the selected color conversion table and three-dimensional interpolation processing are performed to convert the RGB color space used by the application into the color space YMCK used by the printer. Proceeding to S54, binarization processing, here, dither processing is performed using the selected binarization table. The processing up to this point is performed for each pixel, and the process proceeds to S55 to determine whether or not the processing for all the pixels of the image to be formed instructed by the application is completed. If all the pixels have not been processed, the process returns to S44. When the processing for all the pixels is completed, the process proceeds to S56, in which parameters related to the processing on the printer side, in this case, the parameters for the amount of shot for each area stored in FIG. Data to other printers. Proceeding to S57, an image is formed in the printer of 25 along the control flow shown in FIG. In S58, the confirmation screen shown in FIG. 7 is displayed on the
FIG. 10 is a control flowchart of the
By performing such a series of processes, the operator inputs the evaluation of the formed image, so that the processing parameters are slightly changed for each area constituting the image, and this process is repeated, so that the operator The target image can be created.
