Abstract
【解決手段】 第1導波路と光学的に結合される第2導波路と、第1導波路の両側に設けられ、第1導波路を進行するモードに対する全方向の反射性を有する全方向反射性の反射鏡と、を備えるモード変換器。全方向反射性の反射鏡を用いて光ファイバーまたは低屈折率差の導波路と高屈折率差の導波路間の最小損失の光結合が可能である。また、簡単な製作工程により広波長帯に対して両方向に全て高い光結合を有するモード変換器が得られる。

Claims (10)
- 基板と、
前記基板に形成される第1導波路と、
前記基板に形成され、前記第1導波路と光学的に結合される第2導波路と、
前記第1導波路の両側に設けられ、第1導波路を進行するモードに対する全方向反射性の反射性を有する全方向反射性の反射鏡と、を備えることを特徴とするモード変換器。 - 前記第1導波路は、第2導波路に比べて低い屈折率を有することを特徴とする請求項1に記載のモード変換器。
- 前記第1導波路はSiO2、第2導波路はSi,SiNまたはSiONの何れかを含んで形成されることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のモード変換器
- 前記全方向反射性の反射鏡は、Si/SiO2による反復的な多重層構造を有することを特徴とする請求項1ないし3の何れかに記載のモード変換器。
- 前記全方向反射性の反射鏡の間隔は、前記第2導波路に近くなるほど漸次狭くなることを特徴とする請求項1ないし4の何れかに記載のモード変換器。
- 前記全方向反射性の反射鏡の間隔は、前記第2導波路に近くなるほど直線的に狭くなることを特徴とする請求項5に記載のモード変換器。
- 前記全方向反射性の反射鏡の間隔は、前記第2導波路に近くなるほど非直線的に狭くなることを特徴とする請求項5に記載のモード変換器。
- 前記第1導波路に連結される第2導波路の一端部の断面積は、前記第2導波路の主体部分の断面積よりも小さく形成されていることを特徴とする、請求項1ないし7の何れか一項に記載のモード変換器。
- 前記第1導波路に連結される第2導波路の一端部は針状であることを特徴とする、請求項8に記載のモード変換器。
- 前記第1導波路と反射鏡との間にエアギャップが形成されていることを特徴とする。請求項1ないし9のうち何れかに記載のモード変換器。
