Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for processing a glass pipe, in which the starting glass pipe and the heat source are relatively moved in the longitudinal direction of the starting glass pipe to internally attach or reduce the diameter of the starting glass pipe, and further, the internal pipe or the diameter thereof is reduced. Related to glass pipes.
In the process of manufacturing the optical fiber preform, an internal process of forming a glass layer inside the glass pipe (for example, refer to Non-Patent Document 1) and a process of reducing the diameter of the glass pipe to a desired diameter are performed. In these steps, the glass pipe is sequentially heated in the longitudinal direction by a heating source provided outside the glass pipe.
For example, in an internal process called an internal CVD method, a glass raw material gas for generating glass fine particles (SiO 2 ) is introduced inside a starting glass pipe serving as an internal substrate, and outside the starting glass pipe. The provided heat source is traversed along the longitudinal direction of the starting glass pipe to heat the starting glass pipe. By heating the starting glass pipe in this way, the glass raw material gas introduced inside the starting glass pipe is oxidized to produce glass particles. Then, the glass fine particles adhere to and accumulate on the inner peripheral surface of the starting glass pipe on the downstream side of the flow of the glass raw material gas. Thereafter, the deposited glass fine particles are heated and transparentized by a traverse of a heating source, and a glass layer is sequentially formed.
By repeatedly performing such an internal process, a plurality of glass layers are formed until the thickness of the starting glass pipe reaches a desired thickness, so that a glass pipe that forms an intermediate of the optical fiber preform can be formed.
Further, in the diameter reduction process, as a pre-process for solidifying the starting glass pipe by, for example, the collapse method or the rod-in collapse method, the starting glass pipe is heated and softened along the longitudinal direction thereof, and is the same as the collapse method. The diameter of the starting glass pipe is reduced by the surface tension effect.
By the way, as a heat source used in such glass processing, an oxyhydrogen burner is generally used. When the oxyhydrogen burner is used, the flame rises from the bottom to the top, so that the flame is usually applied from the lower side while rotating the starting glass pipe arranged in the horizontal direction around its axis. At that time, since the flame does not directly hit the upper side of the starting glass pipe, it is difficult to obtain a uniform temperature distribution over the circumferential direction of the starting glass pipe, and a circumferential deviation occurs in the viscosity of the starting glass pipe. .
Therefore, the glass pipe after processing may be distorted. In addition, the softened starting glass pipe may be locally contracted by the wind pressure generated by the flame.
As described above, when the processed glass pipe is distorted and the cross-sectional shape thereof becomes non-circular, a defect as an optical fiber preform is generated.
For example, when the glass pipe formed in the internal process is solidified by a collapse method to form a glass rod and the core portion of the optical fiber preform is formed, the optical fiber core obtained from the preform is also non-coated. As a result, the transmission characteristic deteriorates due to circularization and polarization dispersion.
Such non-circularity of the glass pipe was more noticeable as the diameter of the starting glass pipe was larger and the thickness was thinner.
The present invention provides a glass processing method and apparatus capable of suppressing non-circularization of a glass pipe when the starting glass pipe is heated to perform processing such as internal attachment and diameter reduction, and a glass pipe processed by the method The purpose is to do.

Hereinafter, examples of embodiments of a glass pipe processing method, a glass pipe processing apparatus, and a glass pipe according to the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings.
FIG. 1 shows a glass pipe processing apparatus capable of carrying out the glass pipe processing method according to the present invention.

As shown in FIG. 2, the

The
With such a configuration, the outer surface temperature of the heated region of the starting glass pipe G can be directly measured from the
Further, the
Moreover, in order to measure the temperature of several places of the starting glass pipe G, the
In the present invention, it is only necessary to measure the temperature of at least one of the
Further, the
Next, a configuration for adjusting the pressure inside the starting glass pipe G will be described with reference to the schematic diagram shown in FIG.
As shown in FIG. 3, the gas is supplied to the inside of the starting glass pipe G from one end side (left side in the figure), and the gas is discharged from the other end side (right side in the figure). A
Further, a
With this configuration, the
Further, since the
Furthermore, by setting the opening area on the inner peripheral side per
The
For example, as another heat generating part, as shown in FIG. 4, it is good also as a shape which meanders in the longitudinal direction (left-right direction in the figure) of the starting glass pipe G, and makes a cylindrical shape as a whole. In this embodiment, the meandering gap is a slit-shaped
Further, as shown in FIG. 4, electrodes can be connected to both sides of the portion discontinuous in the circumferential direction, and the
Further, as another heat generating part, it may be a heat generating part that is divided into two or more cylindrical shapes and the gap is formed as a gap.
In the present invention, in order to measure the temperature and outer diameter of the starting glass pipe from the outside in the radial direction of the heat generating portion, it is not always necessary to provide a gap portion in which a physical space is formed, for example, temperature measurement What is necessary is just to provide the location which the sensor light (infrared rays etc.) of a measuring device or an outer diameter measuring device permeate | transmits.
Next, a method for internally attaching the starting glass pipe G using the glass
The starting glass pipe G used in the present invention has an outer diameter of 30 mm or more, a wall thickness of 3 mm or more and less than 15 mm, and a non-circularity of the outer diameter of 1.0% or less. Preferably, the inner diameter is 24 mm or more. When using such a starting glass pipe having a large diameter and a small thickness, the non-circularity suppressing effect of the present invention can be remarkably obtained.
Moreover, the length of the starting glass pipe G can use the thing of about 600 mm suitably, for example.
Furthermore, by appropriately setting the outer diameter of the starting glass pipe G to be used, the ratio ID / Od of the outer diameter Od of the starting glass pipe and the inner diameter ID of the heat generating part is within the range of 1.1 to 5.0. It is preferable to set. With such a setting, the gap L3 between the
When performing the internal attachment, first, a glass raw material gas containing silicon tetrachloride and oxygen is introduced into the inside of the starting glass pipe G by gas introduction means. The glass source gas may contain helium in order to adjust the partial pressure of silicon tetrachloride in the glass source gas. The partial pressure of silicon tetrachloride can also be adjusted by the amount of oxygen.
In this way, the starting glass pipe G is rotated around its central axis while appropriately introducing gas inside the starting glass pipe G. The rotation speed is, for example, 10 rpm or more and 150 rpm or less. By setting the rotation speed to 10 rpm or more, the temperature difference in the circumferential direction of the starting glass pipe G can be reduced. For example, it is easy to set the difference between the maximum temperature and the minimum temperature in the circumferential direction in the heated region to 200 ° C. or less. Thereby, the viscosity difference of the circumference direction of the starting glass pipe G can be made small, and non-circularization can be prevented. More preferably, the difference between the maximum temperature and the minimum temperature in the circumferential direction in the heated region is 50 ° C. or less.
In addition, by setting the rotation speed to 150 rpm or less, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of swinging of the starting glass pipe due to excessive centrifugal force.
Next, current is passed through the
Then, the
Further, since the distance L2 varies depending on the length L1 provided with the
Further, in the present embodiment, the temperature of the outer surface of the heated starting glass pipe G is measured by the
Alternatively, the relationship between the temperature of the
Moreover, if the calorific value of the
Note that the adjustment of the amount of heat generated by the
Further, the outer diameter of the heated starting glass pipe G is measured by the outer
Further, when adjusting the pressure, it is preferable to adjust the pressure difference between the inside and the outside of the starting glass pipe G to be 1500 Pa or less. By keeping the pressure difference inside and outside the starting glass pipe G small to 1500 Pa or less, abrupt deformation of the starting glass pipe G can be prevented and non-circularization can be suppressed.
This pressure adjustment is preferably performed continuously in a region of 100 mm or more in the longitudinal direction of the starting glass pipe G during at least one traverse.
As shown in FIG. 2, when the
After the glass layer G3 is deposited and the
Furthermore, the reciprocating movement by the traverse is repeated a plurality of times to form a glass layer G3 having a desired thickness. Thereby, the desired glass pipe which makes the intermediate body of an optical fiber preform | base_material can be formed. In addition, the gas layer G3 in which the refractive index was adjusted can be formed by including a gas for adjusting the refractive index such as germanium tetrachloride in the gas supplied into the starting glass pipe G.
Further, in the glass pipe processing method according to the present invention, the diameter of the starting glass pipe can be reduced by performing the same control as the above-described internal attachment of the starting glass pipe.
As shown in FIG. 5, when the diameter of the starting glass pipe G is reduced, the above glass pipe processing apparatus 1 (see FIGS. 1 to 3) is used to reduce the diameter while performing the same temperature control and pressure control. A glass pipe with a small non-circularity can be obtained by performing the diameter. Note that the gas supplied to the inside of the starting glass pipe G is preferably an inert gas such as nitrogen or argon. Moreover, the pressure inside the starting glass pipe G can be reduced easily by setting the negative pressure to the outside of the starting glass pipe G. By setting the pressure, the non-circularity can be further reduced.
According to the glass pipe processing method and the glass pipe processing apparatus described above, it is possible to effectively suppress non-circularity of the obtained glass pipe and obtain a glass pipe having an outer diameter non-circularity of 0.5% or less. Can do.
Next, examples according to the present invention will be described.
Using the glass
Furthermore, in order to compare with the result of the present example, the starting glass pipe G was similarly installed by using an oxyhydrogen burner as a heating source.
And the outer diameter was measured along the circumferential direction of arbitrary places about each glass pipe obtained when the heating source was the
As shown in FIG. 6, the embodiment according to the present invention in which the
As described above, according to the glass pipe processing method and the glass pipe processing apparatus according to the present invention, it was confirmed that a glass pipe having a small non-circularity of the outer diameter can be obtained.
