【0003】

As an image forming apparatus (or image recording apparatus) such as a printer, a facsimile machine, and a copying apparatus, for example, an ink jet recording apparatus is known. The ink jet recording apparatus means a recording medium (not limited to paper, including OHP, which can be attached to liquid droplets from an ink recording head, and is also referred to as a recording medium, a recording medium, or recording paper). )), Ink droplets are ejected to record (image formation), high-definition images can be recorded at high speed, running costs are low, noise is low, and multi-color ink is used. Thus, there is an advantage that it is easy to record a color image.
[0004]
In such an ink jet recording apparatus, a recording head, which is a means for forming an image, is mounted on a carriage, the carriage is scanned, and an image is formed by conveying the recording medium. Information becomes important. By accurately acquiring the position information of the recording medium, recording start (image formation start) can be performed from an accurate position, and quality can be improved.
[0005]
In particular, in an apparatus that transports a recording medium using a transport belt, if ink droplets are ejected from the recording head at a position off the recording medium, the ink droplets land on the transport belt and the back surface of the recording medium becomes dirty. The problem occurs.
[0006]
Here, conventionally, for example, as described in [Patent Document 1], an appropriate paper width detection according to the type of recording paper is performed by a paper width sensor provided in a carriage.
The ink filling amount detection sensor of the waste ink storage unit for storing waste ink described in
As described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H11-260260, there is an optical sensor that detects the home position of a recording head using an optical sensor mounted on a carriage.
[0007]
further,

As described in Japanese Patent Application Laid-Open No. H11-260, a paper sensor for detecting the presence or absence of paper is provided on the carriage, and this paper sensor is provided so as to detect the same position as the recording head in the paper transport direction. In addition, there is one that detects the leading edge of the paper.
[0008]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As described above, an apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium by mounting the recording means on the carriage and performing main scanning on the recording medium and transporting (sub-scanning) the recording medium in a direction orthogonal to the main scanning direction. In many cases, an optical sensor is provided in the carriage to detect the width and position of the recording medium (paper) and the home position (initial position) of the carriage.
[0009]
However, in any of the conventional image forming apparatuses, the position of the recording medium (tip position or paper width), home position, or the like is merely detected by an optical sensor provided on the carriage.
[0010]
For this reason, for example, detailed information indicating where the recording medium is on the transport path cannot be recognized, and the type of the recording medium (plain paper, glossy paper, OHP, etc.) cannot be identified, and the recording medium Various controls cannot be optimized due to differences.
[0011]
In addition, when the recording medium is conveyed using the conveyance belt, if the droplets adhere to the conveyance belt and become dirty, the back surface of the recording medium is likely to become dirty or leakage on the charging on the conveyance belt is likely to occur. If a leak occurs, the suction force of the recording medium is reduced, and normal conveyance cannot be performed. However, such a situation cannot be dealt with.
[0012]
In addition, since only the presence or absence of the recording medium is detected by the optical sensor, sufficient information cannot be acquired in an area other than the recording medium.
[0013]
SUMMARY An advantage of some aspects of the invention is that it provides an image forming apparatus capable of performing optimal control by detecting a state in the vicinity of a carriage.
[0014]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to solve the above-described problems, the image forming apparatus according to the present invention includes a state detection unit for detecting a state in the vicinity of the carriage in the carriage, and the state detection unit is an optical sensor.
[0015]
Here, it is preferable to detect the type of the recording medium based on the detection result of the state detection unit. In this case, the type of the recording medium is preferably detected according to the analog output level of the state detection unit.
[0016]
In addition, it is preferable that the recording medium includes a conveying unit that holds the recording medium in close contact with the predetermined region and detects the state of the conveying unit by the state detection unit. In this case, the conveying unit is an endless conveying belt, It is preferable to detect contamination of the conveyor belt or breakage of the conveyor belt based on the detection result of the detection means.
[0017]
Further, it is preferable that the component parts other than the conveyance unit that conveys the recording medium existing in the region detectable by the state detection unit have a color density level different from the color density level of the recording medium to be conveyed. It is preferable that the color density level of the components other than the conveying unit is different from the color density level of the conveying unit.
[0018]
In the image forming apparatus according to the present invention, an optical sensor is mounted on a carriage, and the color density level of components other than a conveying unit that conveys a recording medium existing in an area detectable by the optical sensor is conveyed. The configuration differs from the color density level of the recording medium.
[0019]
Here, it is preferable that the color density level of the components other than the conveying unit is different from the color density level of the conveying unit.

Thus, the recording medium can be stably conveyed by using the endless conveying belt as the conveying means. In other words, the conveying means can be constituted by a roller such as a conveying roller, but in this case, since the contact area between the recording medium and the roller as the operation source is small, the conveying state tends to become unstable. On the other hand, since the contact area with the recording medium is increased by using the conveyance belt, the conveyance can be stabilized.
