BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a metal mask that is used by being fixed to a frame-like frame, such as a printing metal mask and a metal mask for vapor deposition, and a method for fixing the metal mask to a frame, and in particular, vapor deposition in manufacturing an organic EL element. The present invention relates to a metal mask suitable for use in a process and a method for fixing the metal mask to a frame by welding.
[0002]
[Prior art]
[Patent Document 1] Utility Model Registration No. 3082805 Conventionally, a metal mask has been used for printing and vapor deposition on a substrate, and in many cases, the metal mask is used by being fixed to a frame-like frame. Yes. As a method for fixing the metal mask to the frame, there are a method using an adhesive, a method using welding, and the like (see Patent Document 1).
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, in recent years, there is a demand for miniaturizing a pattern formed on a metal mask and reducing the thickness of the metal mask itself. For example, as a metal mask used for vacuum deposition for forming an organic layer or cathode electrode of an organic EL element, a mask having a pattern portion in which a large number of slits are arranged in parallel at regular intervals is used. There is a demand for reducing the width and slit interval and reducing the plate thickness. However, when fixing a thin metal mask having such a fine pattern to a frame-shaped frame, simply placing the metal mask on the frame and fixing it with an adhesive or by welding will cause distortion and sagging in the metal mask. It was found that a desired pattern could not be obtained. Therefore, as a result of investigations to prevent distortion and sagging that occur in the metal mask, the present inventors applied both vertical and horizontal tension to the metal mask and stretched the metal mask flatly before attaching the metal mask to the frame. It is possible to make the metal mask flat without distortion or sagging, and by fixing the metal mask to the frame by spot welding or the like in that state, the metal mask can be fixed even after fixing. It has been found that moderate tension remains, the metal mask is held in a flat state without distortion and sagging, and a desired fine pattern can be secured with high accuracy.
[0004]
However, it has been found that there is a new problem when the metal mask is welded and fixed to the frame by spot welding or the like in a state where tension is applied. That is, in order to fix the metal mask to the frame in a state where tension is applied, the metal mask is made larger than the outer shape of the frame, and the peripheral portion of the metal mask located outside the frame is appropriately set. In this state, the metal mask is placed on the top of the frame and spot-welded by laser light irradiation, etc., but the position on the frame where the metal mask should be fixed by welding is metal. It is covered with a mask, and it is very difficult to confirm visually. Depending on the structure of the frame, it may be necessary to spot weld the metal mask to a narrow area on the upper surface of the frame. In some cases, the metal mask had to be removed from the frame and re-welded. In the case of using an adhesive, it is sufficient to apply the adhesive to the frame side in advance, so this problem does not occur. However, the adhesive does not have sufficient bonding strength, and the metal mask has a desired tension. It cannot be used because it cannot be kept in a hanging state.
[0005]
The present invention has been made in view of such circumstances, and a metal mask capable of being welded and fixed to a predetermined position of a frame by spot welding or the like even when tension is applied to the metal mask, and the metal mask. It is an object of the present invention to provide a method for fixing a weld to a frame using a metal.
[0006]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order that the metal mask of the present invention can be welded and fixed at a predetermined welding fixing position of the frame, a mark is attached to the metal mask in advance so as to indicate a position corresponding to the welding fixing position of the frame. In addition, the mark is used to guide the position to be fixed by welding.
[0007]
Here, the mark is preferably formed by half etching. Since etching is generally used for patterning a metal mask, the metal mask manufacturing process can be simplified by forming marks by half-etching simultaneously with the etching of the pattern.
[0008]
The mark formed on the metal mask may directly indicate a position to be welded, but when the weld fixing position on each side of the frame is aligned on a straight line, the mark to be formed on the metal mask In addition, the start and end points of the welding fixing position on each side may be indicated, thereby reducing the number of marks formed on the metal mask and simplifying the manufacturing process.
[0009]
The use of the metal mask of the present invention can be used for arbitrary printing, vapor deposition, and the like, and particularly suitable applications include vapor deposition of an organic layer of an organic EL element or a cathode electrode. Since this application requires a very fine pattern, the effect of applying the present invention is great. Further, at that time, it is preferable to provide a plurality of pattern portions on the metal mask, so that multi-surface deposition can be performed and productivity can be increased.
[0010]
According to the metal mask welding and fixing method of the present invention, the above-described metal mask is positioned and arranged on a frame-like frame, and the metal mask is welded and fixed to the frame using a mark attached to the metal mask as a guide. Thus, the metal mask can be easily welded and fixed to a predetermined welding fixing position of the frame.
[0011]
In addition, when the metal mask is fixed to the frame by welding, it is preferable to apply tension in both the vertical and horizontal directions to the metal mask so as to keep it flat without distortion and sagging. An even and thin metal mask can be fixed to the frame in a flat state without distortion and sagging, and printing and vapor deposition can be performed with an accurate pattern by performing printing and vapor deposition using this metal mask.
[0012]
