Abstract
Description
【0001】

これにより、MEA(電解質膜電極接合体)を作製した。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a fuel container mainly for storing fuel to be supplied to a fuel cell used for a portable device, a fuel supply device including the fuel container, and a fuel cell for a portable device.
[0002]
[Prior art]
At present, a secondary battery such as a lithium ion battery or a nickel hydride battery is used as a power supply for a portable device. However, with the rapid spread of portable devices, a power source that can be used for a longer time than a secondary battery is required.
[0003]
Therefore, in recent years, miniaturized fuel cells have been receiving attention as power supplies for portable devices. Generally, power generation of a fuel cell is performed using an oxidation-reduction reaction between a fuel such as hydrogen and oxygen in the atmosphere. On the other hand, a liquid fuel such as methanol or ethanol is directly supplied to a fuel cell miniaturized for a portable device, or the liquid fuel is supplied after reforming the liquid fuel. For this reason, there is a demand for a miniaturized fuel supply device including a fuel container for storing the fuel and a means for transporting the fuel from the fuel container to the fuel cell.
[0004]
Conventionally, a stationary container has been used as a fuel container for a fuel cell (for example, see Patent Document 1). Further, there has been proposed a fuel container that employs a double-structured container, in which fuel is stored in an inner container and compressed gas is stored in an outer container (for example, see Patent Document 2).
Further, in a conventional fuel supply device, fuel is supplied to a fuel cell by utilizing a capillary phenomenon (for example, see

[0006]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Since the fuel cell described in Patent Document 1 is a stationary type, the fuel container is also assumed to be a stationary type. A fuel cell for a portable device can be oriented in any direction depending on the usage, so that the fuel must be supplied in accordance with the direction of the cell. However, when a stationary fuel container is used, for example, if the fuel cell is turned upside down, it becomes difficult to transport the liquid fuel to the fuel cell or the reformer.
[0007]
In the fuel cell described in
[0008]
In the case of utilizing the capillary phenomenon as in the fuel cells described in
[0009]
As described above, in the related art, a fuel container and a fuel supply device suitable for a portable device having a closed structure and capable of stably supplying fuel regardless of the direction of the container are described. Not proposed.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present invention has been made in view of the above-described problems, and enables a stable supply of fuel to a fuel cell regardless of the orientation of the fuel cell, and a sufficient space for storing fuel can be secured. An object of the present invention is to provide a fuel container and a fuel supply device using the same, and further provide a high-performance mobile device fuel cell.
[0011]
That is, the present invention relates to a fuel container for storing fuel to be supplied to a fuel cell, wherein the fuel container is at least partially formed of a member having flexibility. .
The fuel container may further include a member having no flexibility, and it is preferable that the fuel container further includes means for preventing gas from entering the fuel container from the outside.
The flexible member is preferably composed of at least one selected from a laminate film composed of an aluminum foil and a resin sheet, and a soft plastic. The non-flexible member is preferably made of at least one selected from hard plastics and metals.
[0012]
The fuel container may further include a housing for housing the container. The housing is preferably at least partially transparent, and preferably has a through-hole for passing outside air. When the housing includes a spring having one end connected to the inner surface thereof, and a flat plate connected to the other end of the spring, the flat plate presses the fuel container by the elastic force of the spring. The volume of the fuel container can be reduced with consumption.
[0013]
Further, the present invention is a pack fuel comprising a fuel for a fuel cell and a fuel container containing the fuel, wherein the fuel container is formed of a flexible member, and the fuel is a liquid. Regarding the pack fuel.
The fuel container can contain, for example, a liquid fuel composed of an organic compound such as methanol.
[0014]
Further, the present invention is a fuel supply device comprising a fuel container for storing fuel to be supplied to a fuel cell, and a fuel transport means for transporting fuel from the fuel container to the fuel cell, wherein the fuel container has flexibility. The present invention relates to a fuel supply device comprising a member having:
It is preferable that the fuel supply device further includes means for preventing gas from entering the fuel container from outside. As the fuel transporting means, for example, means for transporting fuel using mechanical pressure on the fuel container can be used.
[0015]
Further, the present invention is a fuel cell for a portable device including a fuel container for storing fuel to be supplied to the fuel cell, wherein the fuel container is formed of a flexible member. Related to fuel cells.
It is preferable that the fuel cell for a portable device further includes a fuel transport means for transporting fuel from the fuel container to the fuel cell.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Embodiment 1
FIG. 1 is a schematic diagram of an example of the fuel container according to the first embodiment of the present invention.
The fuel container 1 has a cylindrical shape including a
[0017]
The fuel container 1 and the first
Since a conventional fuel container is made of a member having no flexibility, a through hole for taking in outside air is provided in a part of the container for discharging fuel. However, by using a flexible member, the fuel can be continuously discharged from the inside of the container without providing the through-hole and taking in the outside air. FIG. 2 shows an example of the shape of the fuel container of the present embodiment after discharging the fuel.
[0018]
Since the fuel container 1 shrinks, the remaining amount of fuel can be easily grasped from the shape of the container. The direction in which the container shrinks can be changed by giving directionality to the flexible member. For example, the container may have a bellows structure, or a portion where the container is dented may be preliminarily creased.
[0019]
As the member having flexibility, a soft plastic such as soft vinyl chloride or silicone, or a laminate film including an aluminum foil and a resin sheet can be used. In addition, the material is not limited to these materials as long as the material can have a structure that can be easily deformed. Further, the shape of the container is not limited to the cylindrical shape, and may be other shapes such as a box shape as long as it can be easily deformed.

[0021]
As the fuel contained in the fuel container 1, liquid fuel can be used without particular limitation. However, considering that the fuel is used for a fuel cell for a portable device, the fuel is preferably an organic compound. Particularly, from the viewpoint of energy density and reactivity, methanol or an aqueous methanol solution is preferable.
[0022]
The fuel container according to the second embodiment of the present invention is cylindrical, and has the same structure as that of FIG. 1 described above, except that a member having no flexibility is used for both
[0023]
As the member having no flexibility, at least one selected from a hard plastic and a metal can be used. In the case of such a container, even if the flexible member is deformed as the fuel is discharged, the non-flexible member can keep its shape. FIG. 3 shows an example of the shape of the fuel container of the present embodiment after discharging the fuel. In FIG. 3, only the both
[0024]
The fuel container only needs to have a deformable portion to the extent that the fuel contained therein can be sufficiently discharged, so that a member having no flexibility can be used as necessary. In addition, by using a member having no flexibility, a part of the container can be provided with strength, thereby preventing damage to the container. Convenience also improves.

In a secondary battery used for a portable device such as a conventional lithium ion battery or a nickel hydride battery, it is necessary to measure a voltage in order to detect a remaining capacity. However, in the case of a fuel cell, the voltage drops sharply only when the fuel runs out, so it is difficult to grasp the remaining capacity by measuring the voltage. [0037]
First, the flow control valves 4 of Examples 1 and 2 and Comparative Example 1 were operated at a flow rate of 1 cc / min. Then, tests were conducted by installing the fuel container in various directions. As the fuel, a 2 cc aqueous methanol solution was placed in a 10 cc container.
[0038]
[Evaluation 1]
The
[0039]
On the other hand, the fuel container 1 of Comparative Example 1 could not discharge fuel regardless of the direction in which the container was placed. This is probably because the fuel container 1 is made of a member that does not deform due to a decrease in the fuel, so that the pressure inside the fuel container 1 is reduced, thereby making it difficult to send out the fuel.
To solve this problem, a through hole is provided above the fuel container 1. However, fuel flowed out of the through hole depending on the direction in which the fuel container 1 was installed. Therefore, a gas-liquid separation membrane was provided in the through hole. However, when the fuel container 1 was stored, the fuel volatilized from the gas-liquid separation membrane, and the amount of stored fuel decreased. Further, depending on the direction in which the fuel container 1 is installed, the fuel comes into contact with the gas-liquid separation membrane and the fuel permeates, and the performance of the gas-liquid separation membrane cannot be exhibited. As a result, the same problem as in the case where the above-described through hole is provided occurs.
[0040]
In the present embodiment, the flow rate adjusting valve 4 is provided to adjust the flow rate of the fuel. However, the flow rate of the fuel may be adjusted by changing the power supplied to the pump or the frequency. The method of manufacturing the container may be any method such as injection molding or hot pressing, and the same effect can be obtained as long as the structure can be easily deformed.

[0044]
[Evaluation 2]
In the fuel container 1 of the third embodiment, the discharge of the fuel was stopped until the air was discharged, but all the fuel could be discharged regardless of the direction of the fuel container 1 in any direction. . This is because even if a gas such as air is contained in the fuel container 1, the gas can be forcibly removed because the fuel container 1 can be deformed as the gas is discharged.
[0045]
On the other hand, in the fuel container 1 of Comparative Example 2, the fuel could be slightly discharged when installed horizontally as shown in FIG. 1 and when installed with the
[0046]
In the third embodiment, the fuel can be discharged even if the fuel container contains a gas. However, in order to discharge the fuel stably without intermittent operation, the fuel is contained in the fuel container 1. It is preferable not to do so.
[0047]
<< Example 4 >>
Instead of the diaphragm
[0048]
The fuel was discharged from the fuel containers 1 of Examples 3 and 4 with the liquid pump side or the fuel transport means side facing upward.
[0049]
[Evaluation 3]
In the fuel container 1 of Example 3, all the fuel could be discharged. Further, no matter which direction the fuel container 1 was turned, the fuel could be discharged similarly.
[0050]
On the other hand, in the fuel container 1 of Example 4, the fuel could not be discharged. It is considered that this is because when the fuel transporting means using the piezoelectric element sucks the gas, the fuel discharging ability is reduced, and the fuel cannot be discharged under the present conditions. Therefore, in order to discharge the fuel stably without interruption, it is preferable that the gas is not contained in the fuel container 1.

[0058]
The procedure for manufacturing the fuel cell is described below.
The catalyst-carrying particles on the cathode side were obtained by supporting 50% by weight of platinum particles having an average particle diameter of about 30 ° on conductive carbon particles having an average primary particle diameter of 30 nm. Further, platinum particles and ruthenium particles having an average particle diameter of about 30 ° supported on conductive carbon particles by 25% by weight were used as catalyst-carrying particles on the anode side.
[0059]
Next, each of the catalyst-carrying particles and the proton-conductive polymer electrolyte were mixed to prepare a catalyst paste. At this time, the weight ratio of carbon and proton conductive polymer electrolyte in the catalyst-carrying particles was set to 1: 1. Next, the catalyst paste was printed on both surfaces of a proton conductive film (Nafion 117, manufactured by DuPont) to form an anode-side catalyst layer and a cathode-side catalyst layer, respectively. The printing area of the catalyst was 2 cm × 2 cm.
[0060]
Next, a gas diffusion layer was formed on each of the cathode-side catalyst layer and the anode-side catalyst layer. The gas diffusion layers were brought into contact with the respective catalyst layers, overlapped so that the proton conductive film became the center, and joined by hot pressing. Thus, an MEA (electrolyte membrane electrode assembly) was produced. Carbon paper was used as the gas diffusion layer.
[0061]
A resin-impregnated graphite plate having a separator thickness of 6 mm and a channel width and depth of 1 mm was used. The anode side separator, the MEA, the cathode side separator, and the gasket were joined in this order to form a stack and pressed.
[0062]
As the liquid fuel, an aqueous solution having a methanol concentration of 64% by weight was used. However, the concentration of methanol supplied to the fuel cell was always adjusted to 2M by the

<< Comparative Example 3 >>
Using the fuel container 1 of Example 1, a fuel cell system utilizing capillary action was manufactured. Then, the width and depth of the flow path on the anode side are set to 4 mm, and instead of using the fuel transport means 30, cotton is filled in the fuel container 1 and the flow path on the anode side. A fuel cell system similar to that of Example 5 was produced except that was supplied to the flow path on the anode side.
[0065]
For the fuel cell system thus manufactured, 5 mA / cm 2 And 50 mA / cm 2 A power generation experiment was performed at a current density of.
[0066]
[Evaluation 5]
First, 5mA / cm 2 When the fuel cell system of Examples 6, 7 and Comparative Example 3 generated power, power generation was possible. Also, power generation was possible regardless of the direction in which the fuel container 1 was installed. However, in Comparative Example 3, the fuel container 1 and the gas flow path on the anode side were filled with cotton, and the amount of fuel in the fuel container 1 was about half that of Examples 6 and 7, As a result, the power generation time has been significantly reduced.
[0067]
Next, 50 mA / cm 2 In the case of power generation in Examples 6 and 7, power generation was possible. However, in Comparative Example 3, power could not be generated. This is because, in Comparative Example 3, the

【The invention's effect】
According to the present invention, since the fuel container is manufactured using a flexible member, the fuel can be stably supplied regardless of the direction of the fuel cell, and the fuel can be supplied from the shape change of the fuel container. Can easily grasp the remaining amount. In addition, since the degree of freedom in the installation direction of the fuel cell can be obtained and a sufficient space for storing the fuel can be secured, the fuel can be stably supplied even when provided in a portable device.
