尚、透明電極34A,34Bは、例えばITO(Indium−Tin−Oxide)で構成されており、EC層35は、例えばWO(Wolfram−Oxide)3,MoO(Molybdenum−Oxide)3,TiO(Titanium−Oxide)2などの無機材料系のエレクトロクロミック物質よりなる。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a composite display device including a first display unit for performing self-luminous display and a second display unit for performing self-luminous display using an EL element, and a display device performing display using an EL element. About.
[0002]
[Prior art]
[0003]
In such a configuration, when a tachometer is displayed, the transparent EL display is set to a non-display transparent state. In this case, the transmittance is at most about 80%. There is a problem that the display brightness differs from that of a speedometer where no device is arranged.
Therefore, in
[0004]

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, according to the technology disclosed in
[0006]
In the case where the dimming control of the EL display is conventionally performed by changing the frequency, amplitude, and pulse width of the applied voltage, the method of changing the amplitude and pulse width is based on the luminance-voltage characteristics of the EL element. In some cases, a saturated region of luminance (stable region) cannot be used, and luminance unevenness is likely to occur particularly when the dimming ratio is large. In the frequency changing method, continuous dimming control becomes difficult if the operating frequency of the control IC cannot be set high in order to suppress the generation of radio noise which is a problem when mounted on a vehicle. In addition, when the frequency is reduced to lower the luminance, flicker occurs.
[0007]
Further, when a transparent EL display is formed, a transparent electrode made of ITO or the like is generally used. However, the transparent electrode has a high wiring resistance, and the voltage waveform is easily blunted. .
In addition, when gradation display is performed, there is a case where dimming is further required for dimming from a state where the EL display is dimmed, so that luminance unevenness is more likely to occur. It has been difficult to obtain a balance between image and gradation control.
[0008]
Further, the configuration disclosed in
[0009]
Therefore, not only in the case of the EL display alone, but also in the case where the EL display and the display performing the self-luminous display in a different form (light emission principle) are mixed, the brightness adjustment of the whole is well balanced. It is also difficult to do.
[0010]
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and a first object of the present invention is to provide a light emitting display having a first display portion and a second display portion using an EL element. An object of the present invention is to provide a composite display device capable of easily performing high-quality dimming control.
A second object of the present invention is to provide a display device capable of easily performing high-quality dimming control when self-luminous display is performed by an EL display unit.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to the composite display device of the first aspect, the display luminance of the first display unit and the display luminance of the second display unit, each of which performs self-luminous display, is determined by the transmittance of the dimming plate formed using the electrochromic element. It is controlled by changing. In other words, it is difficult to control the brightness of the second display unit using the EL elements. In addition, when the first display units having different configurations are simultaneously displayed, their brightness is individually controlled. It is more difficult to control the display luminance of the image with high quality. Therefore, if the overall display brightness is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate, it is not necessary to individually control the brightness of each display unit, so that high-quality brightness control can be easily performed.
[0012]
According to the composite display device of the second aspect, the second display section is configured by a transparent EL display arranged in accordance with a part of the plurality of display areas in the first display section, and the second display section is The display luminance of the first display unit in the non-display state is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate. The “transparent EL display” means that by disposing an EL light emitting layer between transparent electrodes, when the EL light emitting layer emits no light and the display enters a non-display state, the display itself is not displayed. Refers to a configuration visually recognized as being substantially transparent.
[0013]
That is, even when the second display unit is in the non-display state, the transmittance of the transparent EL display does not reach 100%. Therefore, the display luminance of the first display unit is different between the display area via the second display unit and the display area without the second display unit. It is necessary to adjust the brightness of the display area in advance.
[0014]
It is extremely difficult to maintain the luminance balance when trying to dimming the overall display luminance with such adjustments made. Therefore, if the overall display luminance is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate, high-quality luminance control can be easily performed even when the display mode is complicated.
[0015]
According to the composite display device of the third aspect, the display brightness of the second display unit and the first display unit when the second display unit is in the display state is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate. I do. That is, in a portion where the display areas of the first and second display sections overlap, for example, when the first display section side of the display area is blank or displayed and the display on the second display section side is performed, It is extremely difficult to adjust the overall display brightness. Therefore, also in this case, if the overall display luminance is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate, high-quality luminance control can be easily performed.
[0016]
According to the composite display device of the fourth aspect, since the transmittance of the dimming plate is controlled in conjunction with the luminance adjustment performed on the first and second display units, the luminance adjustment can be performed in a wider range. Becomes possible.
[0017]
According to the fifth aspect of the present invention, since the display luminance of the EL display unit is controlled by changing the transmittance of the light control plate, it is particularly difficult to widen the control range on the low luminance side. Brightness control of the EL display can be easily performed.
[0018]
According to the composite display device of the sixth aspect or the display device of the eighth aspect, dimming is performed by the light control plate in a state where the EL display section is displayed in a gray scale. Become.
[0019]
According to the composite display device of the seventh aspect or the display device of the ninth aspect, by performing dimming control with the dimming plate, continuous dimming control can be realized without increasing the operating frequency of the control IC. Therefore, it is possible to suppress the occurrence of radio noise when mounted on a vehicle.
[0020]
