TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a torque converter provided with a lock-up clutch mechanism.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, some torque converters include a lock-up clutch mechanism in order to efficiently transmit torque from a clutch shaft to improve fuel efficiency and the like. The lock-up clutch mechanism has a lock-up clutch that opposes the inner surface of the front cover of the torque converter so as to be able to freely contact and separate, and the lock-up clutch is supported by the turbine hub via a lock-up piston. The lock-up piston generally has a base (inner peripheral portion) axially slidably connected to the turbine hub, thereby allowing the lock-up clutch to swing in the axial direction. Further, the lock-up clutch has an O-ring interposed between its base and the turbine hub, thereby defining both sides of the lock-up clutch as an apply-side hydraulic chamber and a release-side hydraulic chamber.
[0003]
By the way, in this type of lock-up clutch mechanism, when the lock-up clutch is engaged with the front cover, the power on the crankshaft side is directly transmitted to the turbine hub side. It is common that a torsional damper is interposed.
[0004]
In a lock-up clutch mechanism having no torsional damper, generally, the base of the lock-up piston is spline-coupled to the turbine hub, so that the power of the crankshaft is directly transmitted to the turbine hub when the lock-up clutch is engaged. It is possible to communicate in a way. Further, for example, Patent Document 1 discloses a lock-up clutch mechanism having no damper spring (torsional damper), in which lock-up is performed for the purpose of reducing movement resistance (sliding resistance) of a clutch piston (lock-up piston). A technique is disclosed in which the relative rotation between a piston and a turbine (turbine hub) is regulated using an elastic strap instead of a spline.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in each of the above-described technologies, since the lock-up piston is configured to slide with respect to the turbine hub, the clearance between the inner surface of the front cover and the lock-up clutch is easily affected by an assembly error. The responsiveness during the up control may vary from torque converter to torque converter.
[0007]
In addition, interposing a seal ring such as an O-ring on the sliding portion between the lock-up piston and the turbine hub complicates the structure, and further generates sliding resistance due to the seal ring, thereby reducing the time required for lock-up control. There is a possibility that responsiveness may be reduced.
[0008]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a torque converter that can realize a good responsiveness of a lock-up clutch with a simple configuration.
[0009]

[0017]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described with reference to the drawings. FIG. 1 relates to a first embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 1 is a sectional view of a main part of a torque converter.
[0018]
In FIG. 1, reference numeral 1 denotes a torque converter. The input side of the torque converter 1 is connected to a crankshaft 3 of the engine via a drive plate 2. In addition, a multi-stage transmission or a continuously variable transmission (not shown) is continuously connected to a turbine hub 5 which is an output side member of the torque converter 1 via an output shaft 4, thereby constituting an automatic transmission.
[0019]
Describing the torque converter 1, a front cover 6 is fixed to the drive plate 2 connected to the crankshaft 3, and an impeller cover 7 is connected to the front cover 6.
[0020]
A pump impeller 8 is held by the impeller cover 7, and a turbine runner 9 is opposed to the pump impeller 8. When the pump impeller 8 is driven by the crankshaft 3, the turbine runner 9 transmits power to the turbine cover 10 via an ATF (automatic transmission oil), and the transmitted power is connected to the turbine cover 10. The output is output to the turbine hub 5.
[0021]
A stator 11 for changing the direction of ATF flowing out of the turbine runner 9 is interposed between the pump impeller 8 and the turbine runner 9, and the stator 11 is fixed to a housing (not shown) that houses the torque converter 1. The stator shaft (not shown) is connected via a one-way clutch 12.
[0022]
A lock-up piston 14 is provided on the inner surface of the front cover 6. A cylindrical shaft portion 15 is integrally formed at the base of the lock-up piston 14, and the shaft portion 15 is liquid-tightly connected to a shaft portion 5 a as a shaft member extending from the turbine hub 5 via a bush 16. Is fitted. By the liquid-tight fitting of the base, the front and rear of the lock-up piston 14 are divided into a release-side hydraulic chamber 17 and an apply-side hydraulic chamber 18.
[0023]
Spacers 19 and 20 are interposed between the lock-up piston 14 and the front cover 6 and between the lock-up piston 14 and the turbine hub 5, respectively. The movement of the base 14 in the axial direction is prohibited. The prohibition of the lock-up piston 14 in the axial direction on the base side may be directly performed by sandwiching between the front cover 6 and the turbine hub 5 without using the spacers 19 and 20. .
[0024]
Further, an elastic portion 21 is provided integrally in the middle of the lock-up piston 14, and the elastic portion 21 allows the lock-up piston 14 to swing in the axial direction on the outer peripheral side. Here, the elastic portion 21 is formed integrally with the lock-up piston 14 by press molding or the like. For example, the elastic portion 21 is formed by bending the middle of the lock-up piston 14 in a zigzag manner, and has a thickness smaller than that of the surroundings. It is constituted by becoming. Note that the elastic portion 21 may be realized by one of bending and thinning in the middle of the lock-up piston 14.
[0025]
Further, on the outer peripheral side of the lock-up piston 14, in front of the lock-up piston 14, a lock-up clutch 25 having a clutch surface 25 a facing the inner surface of the front cover 6 is provided. A torsional damper 26 connected to the turbine hub 5 via the turbine cover 10 is provided on the back side.
[0026]
In the torque converter 1 having such a configuration, engagement and disengagement of the lock-up clutch 25 are realized by ATF control of the apply-side hydraulic chamber 18 and the release-side hydraulic chamber 17.
[0027]
That is, when the ATF is applied to the apply-side hydraulic chamber 18, the lock-up clutch 25 is moved toward the front cover 6 with the elastic portion 21 of the lock-up piston 14 as a fulcrum. When the lock-up clutch 25 is engaged with the front cover 6 (when the lock-up clutch 25 is locked up), the power transmitted from the crankshaft 3 to the front cover 6 via the drive plate 2 is applied to the lock-up clutch 25, The power is directly transmitted to the turbine hub 5 via the lock-up piston 14 and the torsional damper 26.
[0028]
On the other hand, when the ATF acts on the release-side hydraulic chamber 17, the lock-up clutch 25 is moved toward the turbine cover 10 with the elastic portion 21 of the lock-up piston 14 as a fulcrum. When the lock-up clutch 25 is released from the front cover 6, the power from the crankshaft 3 transmitted to the front cover 6 via the drive plate 2 is transmitted to the turbine hub 5 via the pump impeller 8 and the turbine runner 9. Is transmitted to.
[0029]
According to such an embodiment, the elastic portion 21 is integrally formed in the middle of the lock-up piston 14, and the elastic portion 21 allows the lock-up clutch 25 to swing in the axial direction. There is no need to slide the up piston 14 with respect to the turbine hub 5 or the like, and good responsiveness of the lock-up clutch 25 can be realized.
[0030]
That is, since the movement of the lock-up piston 14 in the axial direction can be prohibited by providing the elastic portion 21, the mounting accuracy of the lock-up piston 14 to the turbine hub 5 or the like can be improved, and the inner surface of the front cover 6 can be improved. The responsiveness of the lock-up clutch 25 can be realized by strictly defining the clearance between the lock-up clutch 25 and the clutch. In other words, by providing the elastic portion 21 as described above, the swing of the lock-up clutch 25 is allowed, and the lock which is concerned as the largest cause of the variation in the response of the lock-up clutch 25 is concerned. The sliding of the up piston 14 in the axial direction can be prohibited.
[0031]
In addition, since the lock-up piston 14 can be prevented from sliding, the liquid-tightness between the lock-up piston 14 and the turbine hub 5 or the like can be changed by using a bush 16 instead of a seal ring or the like. It can be realized with an inexpensive and simple configuration such as fitting.
[0032]
Prohibition of the axial movement of the lock-up piston 14 can be easily performed by sandwiching the lock-up piston 14 between the front cover 6 and the turbine hub 5. At this time, by appropriately interposing the spacers 19 and 20 between them, the axial position of the lock-up piston 14 can be easily set to an appropriate position.
[0033]
In this case, the axial direction of the lock-up piston 14 is set at a position where a predetermined static clearance is provided between the inner surface of the front cover 6 and the lock-up clutch 25 with no ATF acting on each of the hydraulic chambers 17 and 18. By setting the position, ATF control relating to the release of the lock-up clutch 25 can be simplified. For example, when idling is stopped, the lock-up clutch 25 can be released without performing the ATF control. As a result, the oil pump capacity can be reduced to improve fuel efficiency.
[0034]
Next, FIG. 2 relates to a second embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 2 is a sectional view of a main part of a torque converter. Note that, in the present embodiment, the mounting structure of the torsion damper 26 is mainly different from the above-described first embodiment. In addition, the same components are denoted by the same reference numerals, and description thereof is omitted.
[0035]
As shown in FIG. 2, in the present embodiment, a damper plate 30 is provided opposite to the rear side of the lock-up piston 14, and the base of the damper plate 30 is located closer to the base than the elastic portion 21. 14.
[0036]
A torsional damper 26 connected to the turbine hub 5 via the turbine cover 10 is provided on the back of the damper plate 30.
[0037]
According to such an embodiment, the torsion damper 26 can be disposed at a position separated from the lock-up clutch 25. In addition to the effects obtained in the above-described embodiment, the lock-up clutch 25 The controllability can be further improved.
[0038]
Next, FIG. 3 relates to a third embodiment of the present invention, and FIG. 3 is a sectional view of a main part of a torque converter. Note that the present embodiment is mainly different from the first embodiment in that the torsion damper is eliminated. In addition, the same components are denoted by the same reference numerals, and description thereof is omitted.
[0039]
As shown in FIG. 3, in the present embodiment, the lock-up piston 14 has a base portion integrally connected to the turbine hub 5. That is, the lockup piston 14 is formed integrally with the turbine hub 5. Then, by being integrally formed with the turbine hub 5, the position of the lock-up piston 14 in the axial direction is defined when the turbine hub 5 is assembled.
[0040]
According to such an embodiment, in addition to the effects obtained in the above-described embodiment, further simplification of the lock-up clutch mechanism can be realized.
[0041]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, good responsiveness of the lock-up clutch can be realized with a simple configuration.
