【発明が解決しようとする課題】
上述した従来技術のうち、電光表示型は光源によって直接文字等を表現しているので、文字等を鮮明に表示することができるが、多数の光源を必要とするからコスト高で、消費電力も大きく、小型化にも不向きである。また、バックライト型は光源がパネル体の裏側に配置されるため、装置全体の厚みが増すという課題がある。

これに対してエッジライト型は、多数の光源を必要とせず、また光源はパネル体の端面に配置されて装置全体の厚みを薄くできるというメリットがある。しかしながら、そのパネル体の文字等は印刷やエッチングによって形成されているため、次のような課題が残る。即ち、文字等を印刷によって表現した場合、擦れによって印刷部分が剥がれることがある。また、エッチングによる場合、その凹溝に汚れ等が入り込み、鮮明な表示を阻害することがある。

本発明は上述した課題を解決するためになされたもので、その目的とするところは、描画した文字等の劣化がない電飾表示装置を提供することである。また、描画文字等の装飾性を備えた構成とすることも、本発明創作の目的の一つである。

【課題を解決するための手段】
上述した目的を達成するために本発明では、レーザービームの焦点への照射によって内実の導光板内部に生じる微細な空胞群により所望の文字や図形等を描写してなるパネル体と、該パネル体の少なくとも一端面から内部に光を入射させる光源とから電飾表示装置を構成した。導光板はアクリル樹脂、ポリカーボネイト、ガラスからなるが、その素材は内部に入射した光の内面反射性を有するものであれば他のものでもよく、また厚みや大きさ、さらには形状も湾曲板を含め、特に限定されない。このような導光板に対する文字等の形成(描画)は、本発明の場合、専らレーザー加工によって行う。即ち、例えば直径数十μmのレーザービームを導光板に当て、板内部でエネルギー密度を高めることによって、局部的な発熱により微細な空胞を発生させる。そして、描きたい文字等に従ってレーザービームを縦横操作することで、空胞群によって文字等を形成することができる。このとき空胞群(文字等)は導光板内部に形成されるから擦れ等によって文字等が消えることもなく、また空胞群形成後も板表面は平滑なままであるから、通常のエッチング加工のように凹部に汚れ等が詰まることがない。なお、単にレーザービームを導光板に当てても反対面に透過してしまうため、導光板内部に焦点を合わせるようにする。焦点位置を調整することによって、空胞の形成深さが決まるため、その文字等を導光板内部において厚め(立体的)に形成することもできる。また、レーザービームの周波数を調整することによって空洞単体の大きさを変更することも可能である。このようにして空胞群により文字等を形成したパネル体に、その端面から光を照射すれば、空胞群で光が拡散ないしは乱反射して、その光がパネル体の表面や裏面から出射して、文字等を電光表示する。

請求項2では、本発明装置の好適な取付け基台を提供すべく、パネル体の差込口を備え、該差込口内に光源を配列した構成を採用する。より好ましくは、差込口にパネル体を着脱自在に差し込むようにして、パネル体の交換を可能とする。その他、取付け基台には、電源ユニット、スイッチユニット、光源制御用のプリント基板などを内蔵させることができる。そして、該基板はビスや接着剤等の固着方法を用いて所望箇所に取付けることができる。

請求項3では、光源として赤、緑、青(青紫)の発光ダイオードを用い、これら各色の発光ダイオードを、例えば所定のプログラムに従って、適宜点灯制御するという手段を用いた。この制御手段には、各色を独立に点灯させたり、二色以上を同時に点灯させたり、この同時点灯時に各ダイオードの光量を逓増若しくは逓減させるといったプログラムが含まれる。これによって、パネル体の文字等を多色で表現することができる。例えば、赤と緑の発光ダイオードを同時に点灯させればオレンジや黄に発色し、青と赤を同時点灯すれば紫に発色し、各発光ダイオードの光量を調整することによって、グラデーション発色も可能である。ただし、蛍光灯や白熱灯など、他の光源を排除するものではない。

【発明の実施の形態】
以下、本発明の好ましい実施の形態を添付した図面に従って説明する。図1は、本発明の一実施形態に係る電飾表示装置の分解斜視図であって、1は導光板1aの内部に文字1bを形成してなるパネル体、2は上面にパネル体1の差込口2aを有し、底部フランジ2bにビス孔2cを設けてなる断面略逆T字状の取付け基台である。なお、3は取付け基台2に設けたスイッチ、4は取付け基台2に内蔵した電源ユニット(図示せず)に電力を供給するための電源コードである。

【発明の効果】
以上説明したように、本発明によれば、レーザー加工によって導光板内部にデザインを形成するようにしたので、導光板の表裏面は平滑な状態のまま維持されるから、印刷やエッチング加工のようなデザインの劣化がなく、屋外でも長期使用に耐え得る。また、デザインはレーザー加工によって発生する微細な空胞群で形成され、その照射時、各空胞による乱反射等が発生して、従来にない煌びやかさによりデザインが表現される。また、取付け基台を具備することによって、本装置の取り付けが簡単であり、しかもパネル体のみを交換することもできる。さらに、光源として三原色の発光ダイオードを用いるようにしたので、デザインを多色に発光させることもできて、より審美性が高まる。
