Abstract
Description
【0001】
Phys. Phys. Phys.

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an organic solar cell formed by providing an active layer containing an electron donating organic compound and compound semiconductor particles between a positive electrode and a negative electrode.
[0002]
[Prior art]
With the development of industry, the amount of energy used has increased dramatically. Under such circumstances, there is a demand for the development of new economical and high-performance clean energy production technologies that do not impose a burden on the global environment. Solar cells are attracting attention as a new energy source because they use sunlight, which can be said to be infinite.
[0003]
Most of the solar cells currently in practical use are inorganic solar cells using single crystal silicon, polycrystalline silicon, and amorphous silicon. However, these inorganic silicon-based solar cells have a drawback that their manufacturing processes are complicated and costly, and thus have not been widely used in ordinary households. In order to solve such disadvantages of the inorganic solar cell, research on an organic solar cell using an organic material that can be reduced in cost and increased in area by a simple process has been actively conducted.
[0004]
Conventionally studied organic solar cells include those having a Schottky junction (JH Schon, Appl. Phys. Lett. 77, 2773 (2000)) and organic hetero junctions in which P-type and N-type are stacked. 79, 126 (2001), JP-A-6-93258, and an organic bulk heterojunction in which a P-type and an N-type are blended (SE Shaheen, Appl. Phys. Lett. 78, 841 (2001)). Although these organic solar cells show relatively high conversion efficiency, the area of the cells studied in these is very small, several mm 2, and it is generally said that the larger the area, the lower the efficiency. I have. In addition, unlike organic materials such as silicon, the fundamental problem of organic materials is that they have low dissociation degree of hole-electron pairs generated by photoexcitation and low mobility for transporting carriers to electrodes, unlike organic materials such as silicon. There is.
[0005]
An organic solar cell including an active layer in which a conductive organic compound serving as an electron donor, particularly a conductive polymer, and compound semiconductor particles serving as an electron acceptor are mixed to overcome such a problem peculiar to an organic material. (See Non-Patent Document 1).
[0006]
This is a solar cell in which carrier mobility, which has been a problem in conventional organic solar cells, has been improved by mixing a compound semiconductor having a higher electron mobility with a conductive polymer. In this organic solar cell, the generated electrons and holes are separated between the conductive polymer and the compound semiconductor, so that deactivation due to recombination of carriers can be suppressed. In addition, by using the compound semiconductor nanoparticles, the area of the interface with the conductive polymer is increased, and the electron-hole dissociation probability is increased. Thus, an organic solar cell including an active layer in which a conductive polymer and a compound semiconductor nanocrystal are mixed is very promising as a solar cell that can be widely used in ordinary households.

[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, at present, the conversion efficiency of an organic solar cell is considerably lower than that of a silicon-based inorganic solar cell, and it has not reached a practical solar cell. One of the reasons is that, since the solar cell does not have an optimal structure, holes and electrons efficiently generated and dissociated in the active layer do not reach the electrodes as desired. That is, it is conceivable that the holes move not only to the positive electrode but also to the negative electrode side, and the electrons move not only to the negative electrode but also to the positive electrode side.
[0009]
The present invention has been made in view of the above points, and has as its object to provide an organic solar cell having more excellent photoelectric conversion characteristics.
[0010]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The present inventors have conducted intensive studies to achieve the purpose of improving the conversion efficiency, and as a result, mixed an electron-donating organic compound, particularly a conductive polymer, and a compound semiconductor particle that is an electron acceptor. Instead of providing only the active layer between the positive electrode and the negative electrode, between the negative electrode and the active layer, a hole blocking layer having an ionization potential larger than that of the electron-donating organic compound and the compound semiconductor particles contained in the active layer. By further providing an electron blocking layer having an electron affinity smaller than the electron affinity of the electron donating organic compound contained in the active layer between the active layer and the positive electrode, the inventors have found that the above object can be achieved. The present invention has been completed.
