Abstract
Description
【0001】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a projector and an optical device, and more particularly to a projector using a solid-state light emitting element as a light source.
[0002]
[Prior art]
A projector is an image display device that displays an image by projecting light (projection light) representing an image according to an image signal supplied from an image supply device such as a computer.
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
As a light source unit of a projector, a halogen lamp has been used in the past, and an ultra-high pressure mercury lamp has been mainly used in recent years. In recent years, ultra-high pressure mercury lamps, which have become the mainstream of light source units, can supply bright and high-intensity light. However, ultra-high pressure mercury lamps require large and heavy drive circuits. This hinders downsizing and weight reduction of the projector main body.
[0004]
A solid-state light-emitting element such as a light-emitting diode element (hereinafter, referred to as “LED”) or a semiconductor laser is ultra-small and ultra-light. Since the luminous efficiency of the solid state light emitting device has been remarkably improved, the solid state light emitting device is suitable as a light source unit of a projector. In particular, since the solid-state light-emitting elements have a large degree of freedom in arrangement, light use efficiency can be improved. For example, if the number of arranged solid-state light-emitting elements is increased, the amount of light can be increased and a bright projected image can be obtained.
[0005]
Further, a tilt mirror device can be used as the spatial light modulator of the projector. The tilt mirror device has a plurality of movable mirror elements. The movable mirror element can selectively move between a first reflection position and a second reflection position. For example, when the movable mirror element is at the first reflection position, the light from the light source unit is reflected in the direction of the projection lens (ON state). When the movable mirror element is at the second reflection position, the light from the light source unit is reflected in a direction other than the projection lens (OFF state) and discarded. By moving the movable mirror element according to the image signal, light from the light source unit can be modulated (for example, see Patent Document 1). A projector combining a solid state light emitting device and a tilt mirror device has not been known.

[0011]
The present invention has been made in view of the above problems, and has as its object to provide a projector and an optical device that can obtain a bright projected image by using a solid-state light emitting element as a light source.
[0012]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
According to an embodiment of the present invention, there is provided a light source unit that supplies light, a spatial light modulator that modulates light from the light source unit according to an image signal, and the spatial light. A projection lens for projecting the light modulated by the modulation device, wherein the spatial light modulation device has a reflection plane portion that can selectively select a first reflection position and a second reflection position. A tilt mirror device, wherein the normal to the reflection plane when the reflection plane is at the first reflection position, and the normal to the reflection plane when the reflection plane is at the second reflection position. And the plane including the optical axis of the projection lens is defined as a first plane, and the plane perpendicular to the first plane and including the optical axis of the projection lens is defined as a second plane. The size of the entrance pupil of the projection lens in a direction along the second plane Can provide a projector which being larger than the size of the entrance pupil of the along the first planar direction. Thereby, more light can be taken in by the projection lens, and a bright projection image can be obtained.
[0013]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, in the projection lens, a region other than a region through which an effective ray incident on an entrance pupil in a direction along the second plane passes is cut off, and the projection lens extends along the first plane. It is desirable to provide a lens element having a larger diameter in the direction along the second plane than in the direction. Thus, the area other than the entrance pupil (the area through which the effective light rays (rays not contributing to image display) do not pass) is cut off, so that the illumination optical system can be placed adjacent to the entrance pupil, thereby increasing the illumination efficiency and miniaturizing. And the weight of the projection lens can be reduced.
[0014]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, the projection lens includes a plurality of lens elements, and has a diameter larger in a direction along the second plane than in a direction along the first plane. It is desirable to be arranged on the light incident side. Accordingly, when the projection lens is composed of a plurality of lens elements, the illumination optical system can be placed at a position adjacent to the entrance pupil in the same manner as described above by shaving only the lens on the entrance side that affects the arrangement of the illumination lens. In addition, the lighting efficiency can be increased, and at the same time, the size can be reduced and the projection lens can be reduced in weight. As will be described later, when the exit side lens group of the projection lens is circular and focusing means is used only with the lens group, only the lens group is turned by a mechanism on a screw as means for moving in the optical axis direction. This allows the optical axis to move in the optical axis direction.
[0015]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, the light source unit has a plurality of solid state light emitting devices arranged in a predetermined region, and the light source unit is arranged on the second plane of the predetermined region in which the solid state light emitting devices are arranged. It is desirable that the size in the parallel direction is larger than the size in the direction along the first plane. As a result, more solid state light emitting elements can be arranged, so that the amount of light can be increased.
[0016]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, it is preferable that the solid-state light-emitting element is disposed close to a short axis side of a lens diameter on an incident side of the projection lens. This allows the light source unit to be adjacent to the entrance pupil of the projection lens, thereby improving efficiency.
[0017]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, it is preferable that a light-collecting / reflecting member for condensing and reflecting the light from the light source unit is disposed close to the minor axis side of the diameter on the incident side of the projection lens. Accordingly, by installing the lens element of the illumination lens or the reflecting mirror adjacent to the direction in which the lens diameter is short in the above-described lens shape (the direction along the first plane), the light source unit is adjacent to the lens element as described above. As in the case of disposing them, the lighting efficiency (light use efficiency) can be improved.
[0018]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, the entrance pupil of the projection lens has an elliptical shape, and a direction of a major axis of the elliptical shape is a direction along the second plane, and It is desirable that the direction of the minor axis is a direction along the first plane. Accordingly, the entrance pupil of the projection lens can be increased in a direction perpendicular to the direction in which the spatial light modulator separates and modulates the light from the light source unit. For this reason, more light can be projected.
[0019]
Further, according to a preferred aspect of the present invention, the projection lens includes a plurality of lens elements, and a lens element of the projection lens on a side on which light from the spatial light modulator enters is the entrance pupil of the projection lens. An elliptical shape similar to the above is desirable. In order to form an elliptical entrance pupil in a circular lens element, it is conceivable to shield a part of a circular lens element large enough to include the elliptical entrance pupil. In this case, a circular lens element having a large aperture is required. On the other hand, in a preferred embodiment of the present invention, an elliptical entrance pupil can be formed only by a lens element having a required size.
[0020]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, it is desirable that the projection lens has a mechanism that can be moved substantially parallel to the optical axis without rotating the projection lens during focusing. In general, in a projection lens having different entrance pupil diameters in the “direction along the first plane” and the “direction along the second plane”, focusing by moving the optical axis of the rotation mechanism rotates the projection lens. Therefore, good focusing is very difficult. On the other hand, in the present embodiment, the lens can be moved substantially parallel to the optical axis without involving the rotation mechanism of the projection lens, so that focusing becomes possible.
[0021]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, it is preferable that the mechanism that is movable substantially in parallel with the optical axis is a linear slider. Thus, the lens can be easily linearly moved.
[0022]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, a lens element of the projection lens on the side from which the light from the spatial light modulator is emitted has a shape rotationally symmetric with respect to an optical axis, and the projection lens has the rotational symmetry. It is desirable that the light from the spatial light modulator be focused on a predetermined surface by moving a lens element having a shape along the optical axis. Thus, since the elliptical pupil is fixed, focusing can be performed without losing the light amount.
[0023]
According to a preferred aspect of the present invention, the light source unit supplies a first light source unit that supplies light in a first wavelength region, and supplies light in a second wavelength region different from the first wavelength region. A second light source section, wherein the first light source section reflects light incident on the reflection plane section in a direction of the projection lens when the reflection plane section is at the first reflection position; When the reflection plane portion is at the second reflection position, the reflection plane portion is provided at a position where the incident light is reflected in a direction other than the projection lens. When the reflection position is at the reflection position, the incident light is reflected in a direction other than the projection lens, and when the reflection plane portion is at the second reflection position, the incident light is reflected in the direction of the projection lens. It is desirable to be provided in such a position. Thereby, the light source unit can be arranged with a high degree of freedom.
[0024]
Further, according to a preferred aspect of the present invention, a light source unit that supplies light, a spatial light modulator that modulates light from the light source unit according to an image signal, and forms an image of the modulated light on a predetermined surface An image forming lens, wherein the spatial light modulator is a tilt mirror device having a reflection plane portion that can selectively select a first reflection position and a second reflection position, A projection plane including a normal line of the reflection plane portion when the reflection plane portion is at the first reflection position and the normal line when the reflection plane portion is at the second reflection position; When the plane including the optical axis of the lens is defined as a first plane and the plane including the optical axis of the projection lens is defined as a second plane perpendicular to the first plane and the second plane is defined as the second plane, The size of the entrance pupil in the direction along the second plane is the size of the entrance pupil in the direction along the first plane. Greater than the size of the entry morphism pupil can be provided an optical device characterized by. Thereby, a bright optical image can be obtained.
