特に、多心光ファイバ同士の接続にはMT(Mechanically Transferable)コネクタが広く普及している。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an optical connector used for connection between optical fibers and an optical module such as an optical semiconductor, and a connection structure thereof.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Optical connectors that are easy to attach and detach are widely used for connecting optical fibers and optical modules such as optical semiconductors. In particular, MT (Mechanically Transferable) connectors are widely used for connecting multi-core optical fibers. Here, there are the following two methods for stabilizing optical characteristics in connection by the MT connector.
One is a method of applying a refractive index matching agent to the connection end faces of the connectors facing each other. The other is a PC connection in which the end faces of the fiber core wires inserted through and fixed to the connectors are slightly protruded from the connection end faces of the opposing connectors, and the protruding fiber core ends are brought into physical contact with each other. Physical Contact) (for example, see Patent Document 1).

JP-A-7-49436
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
Among the above-mentioned methods for stabilizing optical characteristics, the former method has a problem that it takes time and effort to apply a refractive index matching agent every time a connector is attached and detached, and is troublesome.
In the latter method, a stable PC connection can be obtained when the arrangement of the fiber core wires inserted and fixed in the connector is one line, but a stable PC connection is difficult to obtain with a multistage multicore connector having an arrangement of m × n cores. There is such a problem. This is because, in the multi-stage multi-core connector, the protruding length of the fiber core wire at the connection end face of the connector often differs, and the PC is easily detached. Furthermore, as the number of fibers increases, the protruding length of the fiber core wire tends to vary, and the PC tends to come off. Such deviation from the PC causes an increase in insertion loss, which is a major factor that hinders stabilization of optical characteristics.
[0005]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
An object of the present invention is to solve the above problems. Specifically, it is an object of the present invention to provide an optical connector which is easily detachable and has stable optical characteristics and a connection structure thereof.
[0006]
One of the optical connectors of the present invention is one in which an end face of a fiber core wire inserted and fixed to a ferrule projects outside a connection end face of the ferrule, and the end face of the fiber core wire is a curved surface having a predetermined radius of curvature. is there.
[0007]
In another one of the optical connectors of the present invention, the end face of the fiber core wire inserted and fixed to the ferrule is made to protrude outside the connection end face of the ferrule, and only the core end face in the end face of the fiber core wire has a predetermined curvature. It is a curved surface with a radius.
[0008]
Another one of the optical connectors of the present invention is one in which the radius of curvature of the end face of the fiber core or the end face of the core is set to 100 μm or less.
[0009]
One of the connection structures for an optical connector of the present invention is a structure in which a pair of optical connectors are arranged and fixed such that core end faces of fiber core wires protruding outward from the connection end faces face each other at a predetermined interval.
[0010]
Another one of the connection structures of the optical connector of the present invention is such that a spacer is interposed between connection end surfaces of opposing optical connectors, and core end surfaces of fiber core wires projecting outward from these connection end surfaces are opposed to each other at a predetermined interval. It was made.
[0011]
Another one of the optical connector connection structures of the present invention is one in which a spacer sandwiched between the connection end faces of the opposing optical connectors is protruded into an adapter into which these optical connectors are inserted.
[0012]
In another one of the optical connector connection structures of the present invention, spacers sandwiched between the connection end faces of the opposing optical connectors are provided on the outer peripheral surfaces of the guide pins inserted across the guide pin holes of these optical connectors. Things.

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, an embodiment of the optical connector of the present invention will be described in detail. The optical connector shown here is an MT connector in which a fiber core is inserted and fixed in a ferrule. As shown in FIG. 1, the ferrule 1 has an

Here, in the case of a general silica-based fiber, since the refractive index of the fiber material is about 1.4, a good collimating effect can be obtained when the radius of curvature of the core end face is 100 μm or less. Therefore, the radius of curvature of both

As described above, the light output from the optical connector 11 of FIG. 1 is a collimated light. Since the collimated light is a Gaussian beam, the flight distance of the beam that can be spatially coupled is determined by the refractive index of the fiber material, the core diameter, and the curvature of the core end face. Therefore, when connecting the optical connectors 11 shown in FIG. 1, it is necessary to make the facing core end faces 8 face each other at a predetermined interval. Therefore, as shown in FIG. 5, by interposing a

The optical connector of the present invention can be used not only for the optical connection between the optical connectors as described above, but also as a fiber array collimator having good positional accuracy.
Further, in the light source device, the coupling efficiency is increased by, for example, disposing a condenser lens at a coupling portion between the light emitting element and the fiber. Can be. 【The invention's effect】
ADVANTAGE OF THE INVENTION According to the optical connector and its connection structure of this invention, a highly efficient and stable optical connection is attained without using a refractive index matching agent and without requiring PC connection. In particular, even in a high-density optical connector with multiple stages and multiple cores, optical connection with easy optical connection and stable optical characteristics is possible.
