Abstract
Description
【0001】
【0045】

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a display device such as an organic EL display.
[0002]
[Prior art]
In recent years, displays provided with various display mechanisms have been known. Above all, a full-color organic EL display utilizing an organic light emitting (organic EL (Electro Luminescence)) phenomenon has attracted attention because of its wide viewing angle, low driving voltage, and high luminance. Based on such advantages, recently, an attempt has been made to mount an organic EL display on a small information terminal device for personal use typified by a mobile phone or a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant).
[0003]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
By the way, among users who use a mobile phone or a PDA, in order to prevent the display contents of the display from being peeped by a third party, the viewing angle is set so that only the users can clearly see the display contents. There is a growing demand for intentional narrowing of.
[0004]
However, in the conventional organic EL display, the wide viewing angle, which is one of the advantages described above, backfires, and it is difficult to intentionally limit the viewing angle as requested by the user. Taking into account the prevention of information leakage when using mobile phones and PDAs and the spread of the organic EL display market in the future, establishment of a viewing angle control technology can be said to be urgent.
[0005]
As a technique for improving the display performance of an organic EL display, for example, a technique of mounting a lens-like structure on an organic EL display in order to improve light extraction efficiency is known (for example, Patent Document 1). 1).
[0006]
[Patent Document 1]
JP-A-9-171892 (page 3-4, FIG. 1)
[0007]
However, in the organic EL display equipped with the above-described lens structure, although the light extraction efficiency can be improved, the viewing angle cannot be intentionally limited due to the wide viewing angle.
[0008]
The present invention has been made in view of such a problem, and an object of the present invention is to provide a display device capable of intentionally limiting a viewing angle.
[0009]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
The display device of the present invention, a plurality of light emitting elements that generate light for image display, and disposed between each light emitting element, a plurality of reflective members that reflect external light, and disposed corresponding to each light emitting element, It has a transmitting member that selectively transmits light for image display, and a plurality of light collectors that are disposed on the opposite side of the plurality of light emitting elements with the transmitting member interposed therebetween and collect light for image display. And an optical member.
[0010]
In the display device of the present invention, light for image display generated in the plurality of light emitting elements selectively passes through the transmission member, and is subsequently collected by the light collection portions of the plurality of optical members. Since the light is radiated in the opposite direction, the image can be clearly recognized in the opposite direction. On the other hand, in directions other than the direction directly facing the display device, the image quality is intentionally degraded mainly by utilizing the selective light transmission effect of the transmission member and the reflection effect of external light by the reflection member. It becomes difficult to see.
[0011]

Next, with reference to FIG. 1 to FIG. FIG. 3 is for explaining the relationship between the visual field range and the visibility, and FIG. 4 is for explaining the radiation mechanism of the light L for image display (hereinafter simply referred to as “light L”). In FIG. 4, the cover plate 60 is not shown to make the optical path of the light L easier to see.
[0027]
In this organic EL display, the visibility of the image differs depending on the viewing angle of the displayed image (viewing range A to D shown in FIG. 3).
[0028]
The direction in which the user using the organic EL display directly faces the organic EL display (hereinafter, simply referred to as “facing direction”), that is, the visual field range A optically corresponding to the organic EL light emitting element 20 (for example, 20G). Then, the display image can be clearly recognized. That is, as shown in FIG. 4, when the light L is generated in the organic EL

In particular, in the visual field ranges B to D, the effective resonance wavelength of the optical resonance structure becomes shorter as the emission angle of the light L emitted from the organic EL element 20 (the inclination angle of the emission direction with respect to the facing direction) increases. As a result, the light having a low reflectance has a shorter wavelength, and the wavelength of the light deviates from the absorption wavelength of the

Furthermore, in the present embodiment, since the light L is concentrated in the facing direction based on the light condensing action of the microlens 53S, the radiation amount of the light L radiated in a direction other than the facing direction is relatively reduced. . Therefore, the loss of the light amount of the light L required to be visually recognized as an image is reduced, so that it is possible to reduce the power consumption of the organic EL display while ensuring high image quality. In addition, in the present embodiment, it is possible to extend the life of the organic EL display and reduce the size and weight of the battery capacity based on the realization of low power consumption.
[0043]

Further, in the above-described embodiment, the case where the present invention is applied to the organic EL display that displays an image using the organic EL phenomenon has been described. However, the present invention is not necessarily limited to this, and the self-emission other than the organic EL display may be used. The present invention can be applied to a type of display.
