Abstract
Description
【0001】

[0033]
The color printer used in the present invention employs a method of ejecting ink using piezo elements, but a printer having a nozzle unit for ejecting ink by another method may be used. For example, the present invention may be applied to a printer that discharges ink by energizing a heater disposed in an ink passage and generating bubbles in the ink passage. Even when ink droplets are ejected using such a method, by controlling the current waveform to be supplied to the heater or increasing the number of nozzles that eject ink at the same time, the ink dots formed on the print target medium can be formed. It is possible to control the size. Further, a printer of a type that forms ink dots on a print medium by using a phenomenon such as thermal transfer instead of discharging ink may be used.

The composition of the fluorescent ink will be described as an example of the special ink that is the processing liquid used in the present invention. The fluorescent ink used in the present invention basically includes a fluorescent colorant, water, a water-soluble organic solvent, and polymer fine particles. Here, the fluorescent colorant is a colorant that emits fluorescence when irradiated with excitation light, and may be colored or colorless in visible light, but is preferably colorless. The fluorescent colorant may be either a fluorescent dye or a fluorescent pigment.
[0052]
Commercial products can also be used as the fluorescent colorant, and specific examples thereof include colorless fluorescent dyes EB-501 (emission color blue), EG-302 (emission color yellow-green), and EG-307 ( Emission color green), ER-120 (emission color red), ER-122 (emission color red), (all above are manufactured by Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.), Europium-thenoyl trifluoroacetone chelate (manufactured by Shinloich Co., Ltd., emission color red) Orange) and the like.
[0053]
Colored fluorescent dyes include cationic brilliant flavin (luminescent color yellow), cationic brilliant red (luminescent color red), cationic brilliant pink (luminescent color peach), spiron yellow (luminescent color yellow), and spiron red (luminescent color red) ) (Both manufactured by Hodogaya Chemical Co., Ltd.).

[0060]
As described above, the captured image is represented as a group of pixels. When printing this image, one pixel on the printing medium depends on the size of the image on the printing medium to be printed. The length to do will vary. The number of dots that the printer can form per unit length (this is called printer resolution) is determined in advance for each printer model, and it is necessary to match the image resolution to the printer resolution for image processing convenience. is there. Thus, in the resolution conversion (step S110), processing for matching the resolution of the image to the resolution of the printer is performed.
[0061]
When the resolution conversion process ends, the
[0062]
According to the present invention, prior to execution of the essential processing of the color conversion processing, it is necessary to specify the position to be processed by the fluorescent ink because the fluorescent ink is used together with the color ink. The color conversion of the image data is performed on the area processed with the fluorescent ink using the 7-
[0063]
Next, the essential processing of the color conversion processing will be described. As described above, in the present invention, instead of three colors of C, M, and Y, a total of seven colors including K, LC, LM, and SP or a total of six colors including K, LC, and LM are converted. However, in order to simplify the description, the description is made on the assumption that the color is converted into three colors of C, M, and Y. When the color conversion process is performed, R, G, and B gradation image data each having 256 gradations are converted into C, M, and Y gradation image data having 256 gradations.
[0064]
The
[0065]
The execution of the color conversion with reference to the conversion table is performed as follows. For example, when a color in which R, G, and B gradation values are respectively represented by RA, GA, and BA is represented by C, M, and Y gradation values, a point having coordinates (RA, GA, and BA) in a color space. Considering A, a small cube (dV) containing point A is found, and interpolation is performed from each of the C, M, and Y gradation values stored at each vertex of the cube to obtain the C, M of point A. -Calculate the Y gradation value.
[0066]
Such a conversion table has a function of defining a set of C, M, and Y gradation values for each coordinate included in the RGB color solid. If the conversion table stores the gradation values of K (black), LC (light cyan), LM (light magenta), and SP (fluorescent ink) in addition to the C, M, and Y gradation values, RGB Each gradation value of C, M, Y, K, LC, LM, and SP can be associated with each coordinate in the color solid (7-color LUT 7). Alternatively, each gradation value of C, M, Y, K, LC, and LM can be associated with the conversion table (LUT 6 for six colors). The conversion table stores intermediate C, M, Y values, C, M, Y, K values, or C, M, Y, K, LC, LM values. , The final gradation values of C, M, Y, K, LC, LM, SP or C, M, Y, K, LC, LM may be obtained.
[0067]
In many cases, a color correction process is also performed in the color conversion process. The color correction processing is to correct the gradation value of each of R, G, and B so as to eliminate the influence of different sensitivity characteristics for each device when reading a color image, or to perform each gradation of C, M, and Y. This is a process for correcting values in advance and eliminating differences in color reproduction characteristics for each printing device. By performing the color correction, it is possible to express an accurate color regardless of the type of a device or a printing device that reads an image.
[0068]
Hereinafter, the LUT processing to be used will be described with reference to FIG. The

Therefore, by reducing the use of LC and LM and increasing the use of SP, that is, by assigning the gradation values of LC and LM to SP, the color expressed on the print target medium is changed to special ink. It is possible to make the colors almost the same when using and not using, thereby preventing the image quality from deteriorating. This is because LC and LM have lower densities than ordinary inks, and thus are considered to have less effect on image quality than C, M, Y, and K.

In FIG. 12B, in order to make it easier to understand the distribution state of the dots, the pixels in which “1” is written are hatched, and the pixels in which “0” is written are shown in white. As described with reference to FIG. 4, the ink discharge heads 44 to 50 for each color are provided with a plurality of nozzles Nz, so that a plurality of rasters can be formed by one main scan. .

The rasters are separated from each other by the nozzle pitch k. As a result, in order to form rasters arranged at pixel intervals, first, a plurality of rasters separated by the nozzle pitch k are formed, and then a new raster is formed between rasters by slightly shifting the head position. Such control is required. In addition, in order to improve the print quality, one raster is formed by dividing into a plurality of main scans, and further, in order to reduce the printing time, each raster is moved forward and backward in the main scan. Control such as formation of dots is also performed.

It is preferable that the color conversion means of the above-described embodiment is a color conversion table LUT8 including a conversion element for special ink. The function of this color conversion table is the same as that described above. Specifically, the previous color conversion table reduces the ink ejection amount of the plurality of color inks, and sets the amount of the special ink so that the amount is equal to or less than the decrease amount and does not exceed the ink receiving capacity of the printing medium. There is provided a means for controlling the ink ejection amount. For example, it is possible to reduce the ink ejection amount for light cyan or light magenta in the color conversion table, and allocate the ink ejection amount of the special ink to an amount equal to or less than the decrease amount.
Further, the color conversion means may include a first color conversion table LUT7 including a conversion element for special ink, and a second color conversion table LUT6 for only a plurality of color inks. In this case, when the first and second determination means are affirmed, the color conversion is executed according to the first color conversion table LUT7, and the print data is output to the

Further, the print control apparatus according to another embodiment of the present invention distinguishes a first place where special ink is applied within one image from a second place where color ink is provided, and the first place. Performs color conversion using the first color conversion table LUT7, and performs color conversion using the second color conversion table LUT6 at a second location.

The ink cartridge may be a seven-color integrated cartridge or a seven-color individual cartridge in which each color is different. An ID (recording the type of ink and the date of manufacture) is mounted on each cartridge, and the print control system can perform control operations such as selectively using the two LUTs described above depending on the data of each IC.
[0093]
The special ink is used not only for the purpose of preventing counterfeiting as described above, but also for consumer use such as date printing in photographs and artistic applications that emit light when exposed to ultraviolet light, even though it is a normal picture when viewed with visible light. It can also be used for applications.
