Abstract
Description
【0001】

B=(A+Ka)×1.7/DA (3)
Vcont.ratel=B/A (4)
本実施形態で実現する色変換処理は、ICC(International Color Consortium)に準拠したプロファイルで色変換を実現する。

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an image processing method and an image processing apparatus, and more particularly, to an image processing method and an image processing apparatus that performs gradation correction processing to improve the stability of image quality.
[0002]
[Prior art]
2. Description of the Related Art Conventionally, after an image forming apparatus is started and warm-up is completed, correction processing for improving stability of image quality is performed. For example, a specific pattern such as a gradation pattern is transferred to an intermediate transfer body, an intermediate transfer belt, or the like, and the transferred gradation pattern is read by an optical sensor or the like. By feeding back the read information to image forming conditions such as γ correction, the stability of image quality can be improved.
[0003]
Further, an image forming apparatus using a recent electrophotographic method generally has a plurality of image forming patterns. Therefore, a plurality of correction processes are performed after the warm-up is completed so as to stabilize the image quality for each image forming pattern.
[0004]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
However, in the conventional correction processing, since the correction processing is performed for each image forming pattern of the image forming apparatus after the warm-up is completed, the printer cannot be used only for the time required for the processing. Therefore, there is a problem that it is impossible to respond to a user's request to use the printer as soon as possible after the warm-up.
[0005]
For example, in an image forming apparatus using an electrophotographic method, a pattern for forming an image is changed for each object. For example, in the image portion, a pattern with a relatively low number of lines is used so that the electrophotographic characteristics are stable. Further, in a vector portion such as a font and a ruled line, a pattern having a relatively high number of lines is used in order to reduce noise generated at edges. Furthermore, the font may be formed separately from the other vector data and the image forming pattern. In this way, in order to guarantee the image stability for all the formed patterns, it is necessary to perform the process of correcting the characteristics by the number of the patterns, which requires much time.
[0006]
On the other hand, vector parts such as fonts and ruled lines do not require color stability in comparison with image parts. Therefore, if the processing frequency for correcting the gradation can be changed in accordance with the image forming pattern used for each object, the time until the image forming apparatus is opened can be shortened, and an improvement in product appeal can be expected.
[0007]
The present invention has been made in view of such a problem, and an object of the present invention is to take into account the gradation stability required for each object, so that the quality is not reduced and color correction is performed in the shortest possible correction processing time. An object of the present invention is to provide an image processing method and an apparatus for stabilizing the taste.

In order to obtain the same value as that of a commercially available densitometer, it is adjusted by the correction coefficient (k). Alternatively, RGB luminance information may be converted to MCYBk density information using a separate LUT.
[0052]
Next, a method of correcting the maximum density from the obtained density information will be described. FIG. 15 shows the relationship between the relative drum surface potential and the image density obtained by the above calculation. The relative drum surface potential is the difference between the contrast potential used at that time, that is, the developing bias potential and the surface potential of the photosensitive drum when the maximum level is reached using the laser beam after primary charging. When the maximum density is DA at the relative drum surface potential A, the image density almost linearly corresponds to the relative drum surface potential as shown by a solid line L in the maximum density region. . However, in the two-component developing system, when the toner density in the developing device fluctuates and drops, nonlinear characteristics may occur in the maximum density range as shown by the broken line N. Therefore, here, the final target value of the maximum density is set to 1.6, but 1.7 is set as the control target value as the maximum density in consideration of a margin of 0.1.
[0053]
Here, the contrast potential B is obtained using the following equation.
B = (A + Ka) × 1.7 / DA (3)
Here, Ka is a correction coefficient, and it is preferable to optimize the value according to the type of the developing method. In the electrophotographic method, the image density does not match unless the setting of the contrast potential A is changed according to the environment. Therefore, the setting of the contrast potential shown in FIG. 15 is changed according to the output of the

[0055]
A method for obtaining the grid potential and the developing bias potential from the contrast potential will be briefly described. FIG. 16 shows the relationship between the grid potential and the surface potential of the photosensitive drum. The grid potential is set to −200 V, and the surface potential VL when scanning is performed with the laser light level being the lowest and the surface potential VH when the laser light level is the highest is measured by the surface
[0056]
A development bias VDC is set by providing a potential difference of Vbg (here, set to 100 V) set so that fog toner does not adhere to the image from VL. The contrast potential Vcont is a difference voltage between the developing biases VDC and VH. As described above, the greater the Vcont, the greater the maximum density can be obtained. In order to obtain the calculated contrast potential B, how many volts of the grid potential and how many volts of the developing bias potential are necessary can be calculated by the relationship shown in FIG.
[0057]
Referring to FIG. 8, in step S53, a contrast potential is determined so that the maximum density becomes 0.1 higher than the final target value. The
[0058]
FIG. 17 shows a density conversion characteristic diagram. By the maximum density control for setting the maximum density higher than the final target value in the present embodiment, the printer characteristics in the third quadrant are as shown by the solid line. If such control is not performed, there is a possibility that the printer characteristic does not reach 1.6 as indicated by a broken line. In the case of the characteristic indicated by the broken line, the maximum density cannot be increased regardless of the setting of the

[Screening]
An image obtained by performing gamma correction on the raster data after the PDL analysis is subjected to screen processing in order to generate a gradation image by an electrophotographic printer. FIG. 26 shows an example of the screen. The screen is a screen in which threshold values are arranged in a plurality of pixel regions, and expresses a gradation by an area by performing threshold processing for each pixel corresponding to raster data. The screen shown in FIG. 26A is applied to an image or a graphic object, and the screen shown in FIG. 26B is applied to a text object. Express the key.
[0081]
The difference between the two screens lies in the matrix size. Since the screen pattern of (a) (array of thresholds) has a larger pixel array than the screen pattern of (b), the spatial frequency of the screen-processed image is lower than that of (b). Is done. In (a), gradation stability due to electrophotographic characteristics is obtained instead of using a low frequency. In (b), jaggies generated at edges of a character portion or the like are made inconspicuous by using a high frequency. ing. Although the present embodiment has been described using two screen patterns, the pattern of the threshold value for screen processing is not limited to that shown in FIG. 26. What you express may be used.
[0082]
Next, the gradation control of the image processing system will be described. As described in the

FIG. 27 shows a configuration of a signal processing circuit of the printer control unit. The signal processing circuit processes a signal from a
[0084]
The toner used in the present embodiment is a yellow, magenta, or cyan color toner, and is formed by dispersing a color material of each color using a styrene copolymer resin as a binder. 28 to 30 show the spectral characteristics of each of the yellow, magenta, and cyan toners. In this order, a reflectance of near infrared light (960 nm) of 80% or more is obtained. Further, in forming these color toner images, a two-component developing method which is advantageous in color purity and transparency is adopted.
[0085]
On the other hand, in the present embodiment, although the black toner is of the same two-component developing method, carbon black is used as a coloring material in order to produce pure black. Therefore, as shown in FIG. (960 nm) is about 10%. The

The data detected by the
[0091]
At this time, since eight points (seven points in the case of Bk) of sampling data used for γ correction are used, for interpolation of 8-bit data (256 gradations), a γ correction LUT is used using linear interpolation. I asked. In this embodiment, linear interpolation is used as data interpolation means. However, this interpolation means is not limited to this, and may be an operation using a spline or another rational function.
[0092]
The operation conditions in step S272 will be described. The correction process according to the present embodiment is automatically executed when the printing characteristics of the printer are affected, such as when the image processing system is turned on, when a predetermined number of prints are made, or when toner is replaced. It has become so. FIG. 37 shows operating conditions of the correction processing in the present embodiment. When the condition A shown in the upper part is satisfied, YES is determined in the step S272, and the process proceeds to the process A. If NO is determined, the process proceeds to a process B shown in FIG. 35, and a γ correction LUT is created using FIG. 26B (S274).
[0093]
The pattern in FIG. 26B is mainly used for an object such as a character object that does not place much importance on gradation. Therefore, when the correction processing is frequently performed as in the condition A, the correction processing is performed for an object for which relatively stable gradation is desired, that is, a screen pattern for an image or a graphic. As shown in the present embodiment, control is performed to reduce the processing frequency of objects that do not place importance on gradation, so that the user can reduce the time during which the printer cannot be used for correction processing as much as possible. ing.
[0094]
The condition shown in FIG. 37 is a reference example in the present embodiment, and the condition should be appropriately changed according to the gradation stability of the used electrophotographic printer. Further, the conditions under which the correction process is performed are not limited to the above-described power-on, the predetermined number of prints, and toner replacement, but may be performed at the time of drum replacement or from an environment sensor.
[0095]
[Example 1]
The description of the same configuration as that of the above-described embodiment will be omitted, and different portions will be described. In the first embodiment, the processing sequence of the γ correction is different. FIG. 38 corresponds to the correction processing illustrated in FIG. 33 in the above-described embodiment. In the operation condition of step S492, the processing when the determination is NO is different. Specifically, after determining NO, a gamma correction LUT using the screen pattern of FIG. 26A is first created (S494), and then a correction LUT using the screen pattern of FIG. It is created (S495). Other operating conditions are the same as in the above-described embodiment.
[0096]
[Example 2]
Example 2 shows an example applied to an image forming apparatus using an intermediate transfer member. In the γ correction control in the present embodiment, a photo sensor is provided on the intermediate transfer member to detect the density of the development patch. FIG. 39 illustrates a printer portion of the image forming apparatus according to the second embodiment. Using a rotary developing device, yellow, magenta, and cyan developing cartridges are housed in a rotary, and when necessary, each developing cartridge moves to a developing position and performs development. The black cartridge is fixedly arranged, and saves the time for rotating the rotary developing device when black is used in a single color.
[0097]
The toner images formed on the photosensitive drum in accordance with the image information of each color are sequentially transferred onto an intermediate transfer body. In the case of full color, four color toners are transferred onto the intermediate transfer body, and then the paper is fed. The image is collectively transferred to a recording material fed from a unit, discharged through a fixing process by a fixing device, and discharged out of the apparatus to form a full-color print.
[0098]
The charging device for the photosensitive drum in the image forming apparatus of the second embodiment uses a contact charging method. As the applied high voltage, an AC bias (constant current) for obtaining uniform charging and a DC bias (constant voltage) for determining a charging potential are applied. As is well known, in the contact charging system in which the AC bias + DC bias is superimposed, the deterioration of the photosensitive drum, particularly, the shaving of the surface layer is remarkable. When the corona charger shown in
[0099]
Therefore, on the photosensitive drum, the number of fluctuation factors of patch reading increases, which is not very preferable from the viewpoint of long-term stability. On the other hand, the intermediate transfer member has less deterioration factors than the photosensitive drum and can be further stabilized. Therefore, as described above, the second control sensor in the image forming apparatus according to the second embodiment is provided on the intermediate transfer member.
[0100]
Also in the second embodiment, the automatic gradation correction as the first control unit is performed, and the patches formed on the intermediate transfer body are read based on the created LUT. The processing is performed, and the γ correction LUT is stored in a predetermined address space of the
[0101]
In the second embodiment, the patch is read on the intermediate transfer member. However, the present invention can be applied to a case where a configuration for reading the development patch, such as a transfer belt that conveys a recording material, is provided. Further, in the second embodiment, the reflection-type sensor is provided. However, if a material having high transparency is used for the intermediate transfer member or the transfer belt, the configuration using the transmission-type sensor can be naturally applied.
[0102]
[Example 3]
In the above-described embodiment, all the γ correction tables used by the
[0103]
FIG. 40 is a flowchart illustrating the correction processing according to the third embodiment. The processing flow is different in step S271 shown in FIG. At this time, the operation sequence for obtaining the maximum density is performed under the operation conditions shown in FIG. 37, similarly to the operation sequence for obtaining the γ characteristic. That is, if the maximum density is not determined, it is meaningless to determine the γ characteristic of the printer.
[0104]
According to the present invention, a storage medium storing software program codes for realizing the functions of the above-described embodiments is supplied to an image processing apparatus, and a CPU circuit unit of the image processing apparatus stores a program stored in the storage medium. It goes without saying that this can also be achieved by reading and executing the code. In this case, the program code itself read from the storage medium implements the novel function of the present invention, and the program code itself and the storage medium storing the program code constitute the present invention.
[0105]
【The invention's effect】
As described above, according to the present invention, the timing for correcting the gradation characteristics for each image forming pattern is changed depending on the gradation stability required for each object in which the image forming pattern is used. It is not necessary for the image forming pattern to perform the correction process at the same frequency, and it is possible to reduce the time that the printer spends in the correction process without deteriorating the image quality.
