Description
【0001】
【0005】
この方法については、例えば、N.G.Duffield等によるInferring link loss using striped unicast probes,in Proc.IEEE Infocom 2001,Anchorage,Alaska,April 22−26,2001に記載されている。
The Useof End−to−End Multicast Measurements for Characterizing Internal Network Behavior,IEEE Communications Magazine,May 2000.
TCPセッションa(リンク2→3→4),TCPセッションb(リンク3→4),TCPセッションc(リンク4→1),TCPセッションd(リンク1→2→3)。
Passive Estimation of TCP Round−Trip Times,To appear at the ACM Computer Communications Review,July 2002. Analysis of Internet delay times. In Pearson, Murray and Tony McGregor (eds).Proc PAM2000: The First Passive and Active Measurement Workshop, (Hamilton, New Zealand, April, 2000)141−148.

TECHNICAL FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention records a program for causing a computer to execute a method and apparatus for estimating a bottleneck network in a communication network, a method and apparatus for determining a bottleneck network, and a procedure for determining a bottleneck network. The present invention relates to a computer-readable recording medium.
[0002]
[Prior art]
Conventional technologies of this kind are mainly classified into two types.
The first is a method of collecting statistical information such as the bandwidth usage rate and the number of lost packets in nodes inside the network, and estimating a bottleneck node from the statistical information.
[0003]
This method has an advantage that the method itself is simple, no extra packets for measurement are generated, and measurement can be performed directly at each node. However, if the entire network is composed of multiple networks with different operators, such as the Internet, it is difficult for the operator to access nodes on different networks. It is difficult to apply this method to the networks that are used.
[0004]
On the other hand, the second method measures the quality of the end-to-end route by transmitting and receiving test packets from end-to-end, and associates the quality with the network topology information and route information to form a bottle. This is a method for estimating a neck network.
[0005]
This method is described, for example, in N. G. FIG. Dufffield et al., Inferring link loss using striped unicast probes, in Proc. IEEE Infocom 2001, Anchorage, Alaska, April 22-26, 2001. This method has the advantage that it does not require any special authority, such as restricting access to nodes, because it measures end-to-end traffic behavior.
[0006]
However, for end-to-end measurement, test packets must be sent to a large number of end terminals, causing a problem of increasing the load on the network. Furthermore, in order to increase the measurement accuracy, it is necessary to generate a large number of test packets in a short period of time, which further increases the load on the network.
[0007]
There is also a method of transmitting measurement packets by multicasting to reduce the number of test packets. This method is described, for example, in A. Adams et al., The Use of End-to-End Multicast Measurements for Characterizing Internal Network Behavior, IEEE Communications Magazine, May 2000. It is described in.
[0008]
In this method, the number of test packets can be reduced as compared with the unicast method. However, even with this method, in order to improve the measurement accuracy, many test packets are generated in a short time. And increase the load on the network.
[0009]
Furthermore, since the networks that support multicast are limited, this method has a problem that the applicable target is limited. Furthermore, in the current node, since the transfer processing of the multicast packet is different from the normal packet, the quality of the multicast packet is different from the quality of the general packet, and the estimation accuracy may be limited. There is.
[0010]
[Problems to be solved by the invention]
The present invention has been made in view of the above circumstances, solves the various problems described above in the conventional technology, does not require obtaining access authority to any node, and uses the function of the node for measurement. A bottleneck network in a communication network, or a bottleneck link in a network (hereinafter referred to as a , Bottlenecks) are provided.
[0011]
[Means for Solving the Problems]
In order to achieve the above object, in the present invention, passive measurement is performed to obtain network topology information, routing information, and quality information, and by combining these, the above-described bottleneck is estimated. Is the most important feature.
[0012]
More specifically, a signal in the network is taken into an estimating device by a splitter inserted into a line, a mirroring port of a switch, or the like. This captured signal is the same as the communication that is actually flowing. End-to-end by reading topology information and route information from information of flowing packets from signals or trace routes taken into the measuring instrument, and analyzing TCP sequence numbers for each TCP session. The most important feature is that the above-mentioned bottleneck is estimated by calculating the throughput, packet loss, delay, etc., and combining it with topology information and route information.
[0013]
That is, the bottleneck estimation method according to the present invention is a bottleneck estimation method for estimating a bottleneck network or a link in a packet network, and acquires network topology information, path information, and quality information (user information). (A service quality index or network performance index) is passively acquired, and the route information and the quality information are associated with the topology information to estimate a network or a link that is a bottleneck. I do.
[0014]
Further, the bottleneck estimation method according to the present invention, in addition to acquiring the topology information and the route information of the network, periodically measures the quality of the session between the terminals, and uses the measured information as a statistical value (session Quality statistics), and temporarily collects session quality statistics of each session accommodated in the link for each link using the network topology information and route information, and stores the statistics as statistical information. It is characterized in that a network or a link in which the time-series fluctuation of statistical information associated with a certain link or a network is significantly lower than a certain threshold is determined as a bottleneck network or a bottleneck link.
[0015]
On the other hand, a bottleneck estimating apparatus according to the present invention is a bottleneck estimating apparatus for estimating a bottleneck network or a link in a packet network, and means for acquiring network topology information and route information, and passively transmitting quality information. It is characterized by having a means for acquiring and a means for estimating a network or a link which is a bottleneck by associating path information and quality information on the topology information.
[0016]
Further, the bottleneck estimating apparatus according to the present invention, in addition to the means for acquiring network topology information and route information, periodically measures the quality of a session between terminals, and uses the measured information as a statistical value (session Using a means for temporarily storing the data as quality statistics, and network topology information and route information, session quality statistics of each session accommodated in the link are totaled for each link and stored as statistical information. Means, and means for estimating a network or link in which the time-series variation of statistical information associated with a certain link or network has dropped significantly below a certain threshold as a bottleneck network or bottleneck link. I do.
[0017]
It should be noted that the bottleneck estimation method described in each of the above claims can be executed by controlling a computer program, and the present invention provides such a program and a computer-readable program storing the program. It can be commercialized as a possible recording medium.
[0018]
BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION
Hereinafter, embodiments of the present invention will be described in detail with reference to the drawings. For the sake of simplicity, it is assumed that the routing protocol is OSPF and that the session quality statistic is TCP throughput. However, the same implementation is performed for other routing protocols and when other quality statistics are used. Forms are possible.
[0019]
FIG. 1 is a flowchart showing an example of a processing operation of the bottleneck network estimating method of the present invention, and FIG. 2 shows an embodiment of a bottleneck network estimating device (hereinafter, also simply referred to as an estimating device) of the present invention. It is a block diagram.
As shown in FIG. 2, the estimating apparatus includes a

The method of calculating the RTT at step 29 in FIG. 10 is described by Hao Jiang et al .: Passive Estimation of TCP Round-Trip Times, To Appear at the ACM Computer Communications Review, July 200. Alternatively, Martin, H .; Analysis of Internet delay times. In Pearson, Murray and Tony McGregor (eds). Proc PAM2000: The First Passive and Active Measurement Workshop, (Hamilton, New Zealand, April, 2000) 141-148. Is described in detail.
[0038]
2. With multiple estimators:
In the case of using one estimating device, the administrator of the AS, that is, the administrator of the ISP, performs it to manage whether or not there is a bottleneck in the own network. This is performed when managing a plurality of ISP networks.
[0039]
First, an overall configuration diagram is shown in FIG. 1. The node differs from the node in that, in addition to one estimating device in each area, there is a device called a manager that integrates the estimating devices. In this section, since there is one estimating device in each area, information on all links in the AS can be grasped.
[0040]
The processing of each estimating device includes: Same except for clause and timer synchronization by manager. The manager collects the processing results of each estimating device, and detects whether the topology information and the route information have been updated in the area to which each estimating device belongs by inquiring each estimating device.
[0041]

[0043]
It should be noted that the above embodiments are merely examples of the present invention, and the present invention is not limited to these embodiments, and may be appropriately changed and improved without departing from the gist of the present invention. Needless to say.
[0044]
For example, as described above, the bottleneck estimation method described in each claim can be executed by controlling a computer program, and the scope of the present invention covers such a program and the recording of the program. The present invention also extends to computer-readable recording media.
[0045]
【The invention's effect】
As described above in detail, according to the present invention, it is not necessary to obtain access authority to any node, without using the node function for measurement, and transmitting a packet for measurement. In addition, there is a remarkable effect that the bottleneck link and the bottleneck network in the network can be estimated without affecting the communication of the user.
[0046]
Further, the bottleneck link can be specified by sending a test packet only to the bottleneck link or the bottleneck network based on the obtained measurement result. According to the present invention, it is possible to efficiently and accurately identify a bottleneck link without imposing a load on a network as compared with a method using a test packet from the beginning.
