Abstract
Description
Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.出射面及び複数の端面を有する光学的に透明な材料の光導波路を具え、これ ら端面のうちの少なくとも一つに対向して光源を配置し、その光を前記光導波 路の端面で結合することができ、前記光源から放出された光を偏光せる偏光手 段を更に具える照明装置において、前記導波路が少なくとも二つの層を具え、 そのうちの一方の層が、屈折率ne及びnoを有する光学的に異方性の材料を具 え、他方の層が、屈折率niを有する光学的に等方性の材料を具え、前記屈折 率ne又はnoを少なくともniにほぼ等しくしたことを特徴とする照明装置。 2.前記導波路を等方性の層によって構成し、この等方性の層の屈折率niを、 前記屈折率no及びneのうちの大きい方にほぼ等しくしたことを特徴とする請 求の範囲1記載の照明装置。 3.異方性の層が、前記出射面から離間して対向する導波路の面に存在すること を特徴とする請求の範囲1又は2記載の照明装置。 4.前記導波路の出射面がコリメーティング構造を有することを特徴とする請求 の範囲1,2又は3記載の照明装置。 5.前記コリメーティング構造がマイクロレンズアレイを具えることを特徴とす る請求の範囲4記載の照明装置。 6.減偏光効果を有するレフレクタを、前記光源から離間した少なくとも一つの 端面に配置したことを特徴とする請求の範囲1,2,3,4又は5記載の照明 装置。 7.前記導波路の端面をコリメータとして実現したことを特徴とする請求の範囲 1,2,3,4又は5記載の照明装置。 8.前記コリメータを円柱レンズによって構成したことを特徴とする請求の範囲 7記載の照明装置。 9.前記光学的に異方性の材料を、異方性ポリマーゲル又は異方性ポリマー網状 構造としたことを特徴とする請求の範囲1から8のうちのいずれかに記載の照 明装置。 10.表示すべき画像情報に従って、放出された光の偏光方向を変調する画像表示 パネルを設けた照明装置と、検光子とを有するフラットパネル画像表示装置に おいて、前記照明装置を、請求の範囲1から9のうちのいずれかに記載したよ うに実現したことを特徴とするフラットパネル画像表示装置。
