Description
The present invention is part of the lighting engineering field, and in particular it refers to a high efficiency collimating optical system for architectural exterior lighting.
More specifically, the invention relates to a reflector for outdoor lighting fixtures, which makes use of spherical or cylindrical light sources, such as HID (High Intensity Discharge sources), fluorescent tubes or filament lamps. , and produces a collimated beam of light in a desired direction, maintaining a high efficiency of the device and a small footprint, without there being radiation directly coming from the source.
The shape of a reflector for luminaires depends on the light source and the distribution of light intensity to be obtained.
In the case in question it is a reflector for cylindrical or spherical symmetry light sources, such as a common discharge lighting lamp, and it is desired to obtain a collimated beam of light, consisting of only reflected light, i.e. devoid of light directly coming from the source.
A simple collimating reflector for discharge lighting lamps, of tubular shape, of a known type, such as the one shown in the attached figure 1, is made by drawing a PF profile in a section S of the lamp L and then making it extrude along the axis AX of the lamp itself, to form a surface, such as that indicated by SE in figure 2.
The profile drawn in two dimensions (figure 1) uniquely determines the photometric behavior of the three-dimensional reflector R of figure 2. If the profile is parabolic, a collimated beam is obtained in the plane in which the profile lies (see the tracing of the beam FR in figure 1).
In any case, in this type of reflectors there are two components of the output beam: the component reflected by the reflector SE and the direct component coming from the source S. This last direct component has a distribution of light intensity that depends on the source S itself. and it is not project-controllable. It is therefore often undesirable in architectural outdoor lighting, in which collimated beams are preferred for grazing lighting of buildings. The direct component is usually shielded with an absorber, such as the AS shield of figure 2, and this leads to a consequent loss of system efficiency.
In the context of the above-mentioned requirements, the aim of the present invention is to eliminate the aforementioned drawbacks, creating a high efficiency collimating optical system, without resorting to absorbers for direct light, which therefore allows to obtain high luminous efficiency thanks to the € ™ use of all the light of the luminaire, guaranteeing, at the same time, a small footprint.
Another purpose of the present invention is that of realizing a high efficiency collimating optical system which complies with the safety provisions in force.
A further purpose of the invention is that of realizing a highly efficient collimating optical system, which is extremely effective and functional and of relatively simple, safe and reliable construction.
These and other purposes, according to the present invention, are achieved by realizing a high efficiency collimating system, with one or more light sources for outdoor environments, according to the attached claim 1. Further objects and advantages of a high efficiency collimating optical system, according to the present invention, will become more evident from the following description, relating to a preferred exemplary and non-limiting embodiment of the optical system in question, and from the attached schematic drawings, in which:
- la figura 1 Ã ̈ uno schema geometrico di un profilo riflettente noto, per lampade di illuminazione tubolari; - figure 1 is a geometric scheme of a known reflecting profile, for tubular lighting lamps;
- la figura 2 à ̈ uno schema geometrico di una superficie riflettente formata estrudendo lungo l’asse della lampada il profilo riflettente di figura 1; - figure 2 is a geometric scheme of a reflecting surface formed by extruding the reflecting profile of figure 1 along the axis of the lamp;
- la figura 3 à ̈ uno schema geometrico attraverso cui si ottiene il profilo di un riflettore per l’impiego del sistema ottico secondo l’invenzione; - figure 3 is a geometric scheme through which the profile of a reflector is obtained for the use of the optical system according to the invention;
- figure 4 shows an axonometric section of the reflector of figure 3 used in the optical system according to the present invention.
With particular reference to the aforementioned figures 3 and 4, in order to obtain a high efficiency collimating optical system devoid of light coming directly from one or more sources, according to the present invention, a particular geometry of reflector to be used in such lighting fixture.
In this regard, in particular, a specific reflector is designed, made up of several parts, obtained with the following procedure.
The reflector is designed as a profile in a plane (figure 3), then the profile is extruded in a direction perpendicular to the plane in which it lies (figure 4). In this way the light distribution in the plane parallel to the profile is controlled.
The reflector profile, as shown in figure 3, is composed of an elliptical profile 1, which has two foci F and F1, and which contains the source 3, and a parabolic profile 2. The source 3 is positioned in correspondence with the focus F of the elliptical profile 1 farthest from the opening A, which connects the two parts of the profile. In correspondence with the other focus F1 of the elliptical profile 1, a virtual image 4 of the source 3 is formed. The positioning of the source 3 in the focus F, further away from the opening A, advantageously prevents darkening by the real source 3 on its virtual image 4.
As shown in figure 3, the two foci F and F1 are drawn as close as possible. In this way an overall source is advantageously obtained, consisting of the real one 3 plus the virtual one 4, which is compact and therefore, just as advantageously, the dimensions of the reflector are contained.
The direct light beam coming from the source 3 and exiting from the aperture A is completely intercepted by the parabolic profile 2 of the reflector, and reflected outside.
The radiation which is shielded by the elliptical profile 1 of the reflector is also reflected by the elliptical profile 1, exits from the aperture A and affects the parabolic profile 2 of the reflector.
The parabolic profile 2 is constructed by positioning the focus at the center of gravity 5 of the two sources, real 3 and virtual 4, and with axis 6 perpendicular to axis 8, passing through the two foci F, F1 of the ellipse, or inclined by a predefined angle with respect to this perpendicular. In the particular embodiment shown in figure 3, the axis 6 of the parabola 2 is inclined by 5 ° with respect to the vertical passing through the center of gravity 5.
In summary: the elliptical profile 1 creates a source with emission in a limited angle; this emission is intercepted by the parabolic profile 2 which produces a collimated beam at the output. In this way a collimator is obtained which uses all the light coming from the source.
Figure 4 shows an example of realization of the optical system 10, object of the invention, resulting from the extrusion of the profile of figure 3, which includes, in particular, a discharge source 3, an elliptical portion 9 and a parabolic portion 11 of a reflector and a transparent glass screen 7, which closes the lighting body and diffuses the luminous radiations towards the outside.
The distribution of radiant intensity that is obtained in the plane of the profile peaks at the angle of inclination of the axis of the parabola with respect to the vertical.
In fact, a parabolic profile produces, in the plane in which it lies, a collimated beam in the direction of the axis of the parabola for a source placed in its focus. For the optical system 10 of Figure 4, a beam collimated in the plane of the parabolic profile is thus obtained.
A high efficiency of the system is also obtained since the radiation that is shielded by the elliptical portion 9 is not absorbed, but is brought into play since the finish of the elliptical portion 9 of the reflector is specular and with high reflectance.
The amplitude of the peak in the distribution of radiant intensity depends on the extension of the overall source present in the foci F and F1, and therefore both on the dimensions of the real source 3 and on the distance between the two foci F and F1 of the ellipse. The width of the peak also depends on the finish of the parabolic portion 11 of the reflector: the peak is narrower, and the beam is consequently more collimated, in the case of a glossy finish with a strong specular component, less narrow in the case of a satin finish with diffusing component. To obtain a collimated beam and at the same time maximize efficiency, a high reflectance specular finish is also used for this parabolic portion 11. The position of the peak in the radiant intensity diagram, and therefore the direction of the outgoing beam, depends on the angle of inclination of axis 6 of the parabolic profile 2.
This construction of the optical system according to the invention, composed of the elliptical portion 9 and the parabolic portion 11, advantageously allows to obtain a distribution of light devoid of radiation directly emitted by the lighting body, without thereby reducing the efficiency of the system. due to the presence of absorber screens. Furthermore, the system is constructed in such a way as to prevent the radiation reflected by the parabolic portion 11 from re-entering the cavity of the elliptical portion 9, which would lead to multiple reflections and a consequent further loss of efficiency. Furthermore, efficiency is also maximized by the use of high reflectance specular finishes for all surfaces. From the above description the characteristics of the high efficiency collimating optical system, which is the object of the present invention, are clear, as well as the advantages.
Finally, it is clear that numerous other variants can be made to the high efficiency collimating optical system in question, without departing from the principles of innovation inherent in the inventive idea, just as it is clear that, in the practical implementation of the According to the invention, the materials, the shapes and the dimensions of the illustrated details may be any according to the requirements and the same may be replaced with other technically equivalent ones.
