Un inconveniente che deriva dall'uso della paletta è dato dal fatto che, se non si ha a disposizione un idoneo luogo o recipiente dove smaltire la deiezione raccolta, è necessario premunirsi di un sacchetto a tenuta dove trasferire il contenuto della paletta. Il sacchetto, una volta chiuso, può essere gettato in una normale pattumiera. Questo vale anche, e principalmente, nel caso in cui il cane si trovi in un luogo pubblico, quale una strada o un parco. In questo caso, infatti, non è assolutamente consentito di gettare nele pattumiere deiezioni non adeguatamente isolate, per evidenti motivi di qualità dell'aria circostante e, più in generale, di igiene pubblica.
