STAMPA O TINTURA TESSILE TEXTILE PRINT OR DYE
SETTORE TECNICO TECHNICAL FIELD
The present invention relates to a method which allows to reduce the quantity of urea necessary for printing or dyeing textile materials with reactive dyes.
STATO DELL’ARTE STATE OF THE ART
Printing or dyeing of textile materials with reactive dyes has been known for a very long time. Printing or dyeing with reactive dyes exploits the fairly stable covalent bond that these dyes are able to create with the hydroxyl groups of the fibers.
Normally, the reactive dyes are bound (fixed) to the fibers in a basic environment. The choice of suitable alkaline substances for fixing depends mainly on the reactivity of the reactive dyes used. Usually, sodium carbonate or sodium bicarbonate, or a mixture of the two, are used in combination with urea which allows for good levels of fixation.
In standard processes it is absolutely necessary to use considerable quantities of urea, since urea acts as a solvent for the dyes used, as a swelling agent for the cellulose fiber and is certainly responsible for an effective fixation of the reactive dyes used. The quantity of urea mainly depends on the type of textile material to be printed: for cotton, 80-120 g / kg of urea is normally used in the printing paste; for viscose 150-200 g / kg.
However, apart from its favorable properties in printing and dyeing processes with reactive dyes, urea creates various environmental and health problems for workers.
In fact, when heated, urea decomposes generating toxic gases.
Furthermore, urea constitutes a significant pollution factor in wastewater, due to its nitrogen-containing decomposition products, and is therefore very problematic from an environmental point of view.
In inkjet printing of reactive dyes, a pre-treatment fluid comprising urea must be applied uniformly to the entire textile material, even if only a (extremely) small area of the material must be printed. It is clear that, in this case, most of the urea is perfectly useless and only serves to increase environmental problems.
For these reasons, much effort has been made to totally eliminate or at least reduce the amount of urea required for printing and dyeing processes of textile materials or to find suitable substitutes.
For example, a two-step process has been developed in which a paste / bath having a simpler formulation than the standard ones, ie without alkaline substances and without urea, is applied during the printing / dyeing phase. The elimination of the alkaline substance is compensated by the fact that the basicity necessary for the reaction is provided in a subsequent impregnation step, between drying and vaporization.
During this phase, a concentrated solution of caustic soda and sodium silicate (35-38 Be) is applied to the printed or dyed substrate. However, despite the elimination of urea, the two-step process still generates large quantities of waste characterized by a high alkalinity / salinity, which must still be disposed of appropriately to avoid pollution.
An attempt was made to reduce the amount of urea or to completely eliminate it by impregnating the printed material with water before the dye fixation step. This is then done at a later stage using steam.
For example, US 5,106,388 describes a printing process with reactive dyes of a cellulose-based textile material which provides for the printing of said material in a single step, without adding urea, wetting the printed and dried fabrics with water before the step of fixation.
DE 4223859 relates to a process for dyeing or printing cellulosic fabrics with reactive dyes in which the dye bath or printing paste is urea-free and contains in its place a dialkyl sulfone or an alk (en) ilen sulfone of formula R1R2SO2, where R1 and R2, independently, are an alkyl or R1 + R2 are an alk (en) ylene group.
So far, however, the results of all these efforts have been unsatisfactory. We have now found that non-ionic or anionic polystyrylphenols polyalkoxylates are suitable as substitutes, at least partial, of urea in dyeing or printing processes with reactive dyes. These compounds make it possible to print or dye textile materials with reactive dyes with the addition of a reduced amount of urea, up to 80% less by weight, providing colored fabrics with a high degree of fixation.
Furthermore, the fabrics printed or dyed in the presence of these polystyrilphenols have a color rendering similar to those obtained using a standard quantity of urea, easily verifiable by visual evaluation or by instrumental analysis of the color of the final article.

DESCRIZIONE DETTAGLIATA DELL’INVENZIONE DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
In polystyrylphenols, the number of styryl groups on the phenol ring can vary from 1 to 3. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the average number of styryl groups on the phenol ring n is between 1.5 and 3, preferably between 2.3 and 2.9 and more preferably between 2.5 and 2.9.
The non-ionic polystyrylphenol polyalkoxylate of formula I can be prepared with standard methods known to the person skilled in the art. For example, a polystyrylphenol, having an average number of styryl groups per phenolic ring from 1.5 to 3, can be reacted with an appropriate amount of alkylene oxides, i.e. ethylene oxide and / or propylene oxide, in the presence of catalysts. alkali at a temperature of about 120 to 220 ° C and a pressure of about 100 to 500 kPa, to form the non-ionic polystyrylphenol polyalkoxylate of the invention.
The derivatives of water-soluble carboxylated polymers with polyalkoxylated polystyrylphenols suitable for carrying out the present invention can be obtained through two different synthetic routes.
According to the first and preferred synthesis method, the anionic polystyrylphenol polyalkoxylates of Formula II in which R is the residue of a carboxylated water-soluble polymer are prepared by i) radical polymerization of ethylenically mono- and / or di-carboxylic C3-C5 acids unsaturated or their anhydrides and, optionally, one or more non-carboxylated ethylenically unsaturated monomers, ii) esterification of the polymer thus obtained with the alkoxylated polystyrylphenols of formula III, to obtain a post-esterified water-soluble polymer.
The second synthetic method provides that the anionic polyalkoxylated polystyrylphenols of formula II in which R is the residue of a water-soluble carboxylate polymer are prepared by radical polymerization of mono- and / or di-carboxylic C3-C5 ethylenically unsaturated acids or their anhydrides, with one or more ethylenically unsaturated monomers derived from said polyalkoxylated polystoxylphenols of formula III and, optionally, with one or more ethylenically unsaturated non-carboxylated monomers.

Tabella 3 Table 3
(C.I. The pastes were prepared by carefully dissolving the high viscosity sodium alginate in deionized water under strong mechanical stirring and then adding the other additives to the viscous solution to obtain a base paste. Then, 100 g of the KGR LIQ Reactive Turquoise dye. (C.I. Reactivo Blu 71), an aqueous solution at about 33% by weight of a reactive turquoise dye marketed by Zaitex S.p.A, has been added to this base paste. A satin cotton fabric and a viscose fabric were used as textile substrates.
