Description
Compressor muffler device CORPORATIOH 42531 of reducing intake noise produced by the compressor intake To further high frequency noise it has also been suggested that apertures be provided at a intermediate the length of the intake tube for intake noise waves to pass into the housing out of phase with the noise from the muffler and effecting what is in the art as wave with this prior construction is tha i to the low frequency noiso emanating from inlet Low frequency noise is reduced by raising inductive Inductive impedance is a direct function of the length of the suction inlet tube and an inverse functio of the area of the inlet i It is not practical lengthen the inlet tube because of the limitation on the overall housing and it is also undesirable to the of the suction inlet tube since this will cause intake starvation to the It is the primary object of the present invention to minimize the intake noise problem in prior art devices In the invention provides a gas a housing a compressor in said housing means having intake an intake manifold leading to said intake and intake muffler means characterised by an intake tube leading from said muffler means to said intake and a tube leading to said intake manifold and advantage the present invention ating both high and frequency noise a intake the compressor without causing an This effected through provision of an suction inlet tubing Preferabl there is provided an inner suction inlet tube extending from the compressor inlet to the This suction inlet has area less tha that required to feed the pump and thus provides a greater inductive impedance that reduces noise in Surrounding the suction tub is a tube extending partway up the suction inlet tube and closed around the inlet tube at the top Apertures are provided at top of the tube to reduce noise and also provide secondary inlet flow to the compressor intake The are of the the area of flow passage surrounding the suction is also less than art suction inlet tubes and thus provides a greater ductive impedance to low frequency noise generated by the intake combined area of the suction inlet tube and the tube is the same as or greater than prior art constructions so that there is starvation at the compressor I the 1 is a longitudinal fragmentary section of a compressor unit according to present 2 is fragmentary section Illustrating the inlet valving for one of the compressor 3 generally the line of F 2 passage provided havin ertically disposed 52 which receives a auction inlet The inlet tubin with an annul ar muf for reducing inlet which suspended in the by spring has openings 60 in thereof for the purpose of receiving inlet gas to the compresso in the suction tubing assembly consists of a vertically extending inner suction inlet tube 58 from the compressor intake to the Surrounding the inner suction inlet tube a concentric 62 which fits within intake 2 and extends upwardly to a point 63 where it is fixed inner suction inlet tube 62 has inle apertures 66 and 67 degrees the 1 the of receiving additional inlet fluid and also for permitting attentuation of inle valving by emitting noise waves within the housing 12 out of phase with noise from the muffler to effect high frequency noise cancellation as discussed The tube 62 has dimples in the lower end thereof for maintaining concentricity between inner intake tube the tube The purpose of the separate tube 62 is to provide attentuation for low frequency noise caused by the intake valvin As discussed the low frequency noise be attenuated by the inductive impedance of the intake tubing assembly This can be done either by increasing the length of the intake or decreasing the area of the intake A prior art intake tube is illustrated in havin conventional apertures for receiving insufficientOCRQuality
Claims (5)
1. A gas compressor, comprising a housing means* a compressor in said housing means having intake valving, an intake manifold leading to said intake valving, intake muffler means, an intake muffler tube leading from said muffler means to said intake manifold, and a by-pass tube surrounding said intake tube and opening into said housing without passing into the muffler means, said by-pass tube having apertures therein for attenuating intake noise.
2. The gas compressor of claim 1, wherein said bypass tube is concentric with said intake tube.
3. The gas compressor of claim 1 or 2, wherein said intake tube and said by-pass tube each have a smaller cross-section than said intake manifold.
4. The gas compressor of claim 1, including an electric motor in said housing, said compressor mounted below said electric motor in said housing, said muffler means mounted above the electric motor, said intake muffler tube extending from the muffler means alongside the electric motor to the intake manifold, and means for reducing the effective cross section of the suction inlet tube without restructing the inlet gas flow to the intake manifold including said by-pass tube surrounding the intake tube and opening into the intake manifold, said by-pass tube having a closed upper end engaging the suction inlet tube, said by-pass tube having aperture means therein permitting gas inflow and also attenuating noise.
5. A gas compressor substantially as herein described with reference to the embodiment illustrated in the
