Abstract
1378381 Imidazoles BEECHAM GROUP Ltd 13 July 1972 [18 Aug 1971] 38716/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises novel compounds (I) wherein R and R 1 are each a hydrogen or halogen atom or a methoxycarbonyl, ethoxycarbonyl, carboxamido, nitro, trifluoromethyl, C 1-4 alkyl, hydroxyl, methoxyl, ethoxyl, benzyloxyl, acetoxyl, amino, methylamino, ethylamino, dimethylamino or acetamido group; R 2 is an amino or C 1-4 alkoxyl or benzyloxyl group; R 3 is a hydrogen atom or a C 1-7 hydrocarbon group; and R 4 is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; or a tautomer, acid addition salt or hydrate thereof. They are made by standard methods. Pharmaceutical preparations showing antiinflammatory action contain (I) as active ingredient; administration may be orally, parenterally or by suppository.

Claims (9)
1. CLAIMS 1. A compound of the formula (II) wherein R and are each/hydrogen or halogen atom or a nitro, trifluoromethyl, c^-4 ^lkyl, hydroxy, methoxy, ethoxy, benzyl- oxy, acetoxy amino, methylamino, ethylamino, dimethylamino or acetamido group; 2 is an amino or C, . alkoxy or benzyloxy group A group; R^ is a alk JkY and is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group? or a tautomer, acid addition salt or hydrate thereof.
2. A compound as i Claim 1 wherein ^ is a hydrogen atom.
3. A compound as in Claim 2 wherein 2 is an amino, methoxy or ethoxy group.
4. A compound of the formula (III): amino group. 8. A compound of the formula (IV): 38357 ¾ wherein R^ is as defined in Claim 1. 9. A compound as in Claim 8 wherein R^ is a hydrogen or halogen atom or a methyl, methoxy, nitro or trifluoromethyl group. 10. & compound as in Claim 9 wherein R-Lis a hydrogen atom. 11. A compound of the formula (V): ne atom or a met y or tr uoromet y group. 12. A compound as in Claim 11 wherein ^ is a halogen atom. 13. A compound as in Claim .12 wherei R is a chlorine atom. 14. A process for the preparation of a compound as claimed in Claim 1 which comprises the reaction of a compound of the formula (VI) : with an acylating derivative of an acid of general formula EO.CO.E3. 25. A process for the preparation of a compound as claimed in any of Claims 11-14 which comprises the acetylation of a compound of the formula: 27. A process as in Claim 26 wherein the acetylatfrig agent is the acid chloride/ the acid bromide or the acid anhydride. 28. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises a compound as claimed in Claim 1 together with one or more pharmaceutically acceptabl 29. A pharmaceutical administrable unit dosage form which contains from 5 to 500 mgs. of a compound as claimed in Claim 11. 38357/3 30. A composition as in Claim 29 which contains 5-acetamido-4-carbamoyl-2-phenylimidazole. 31. A compound as in any of Claims 1-24 when prepared by a process as in Claim 2:5. 32- A compound as in any of Claims 11-15 when prepared by a process as in Claim 26. 33. A process for the preparation of a compound as claimed in any of Claims 1-24 substantially as described in any of Examples 1-24 herein. EE:mr
