Abstract

1423175 Blowing agent compositions FISONS Ltd 5 July 1973 [11 July 1972] 32308/72 Heading C3C A blowing agent composition comprises 100 parts by wt. of tri-hydrazino-triazine and 1-20 parts by wt. of azodicarbon amide. The composition may also contain a finely divided silica containing free or combined water and may be mixed with a high temperature polymer (i.e. a thermoplastic polymer which requires expansion at 220‹ C. or above) which is then expanded by heating to a temperature below the decomposition temperature of the polymer but above the decomposition temperature of the blowing agent composition. The polymer may be nylon, polycarbonate, polystyrene, acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer, polyethylene or polypropylene. The polymers expanded in the examples consisted of polyphenylene oxide with butyl stearate and glass-fibre reinforced polypropylene which was expanded using a master batch consisting of polyethylene, the above blowing agent and erucamide.
