Abstract

1324535 Pistons USS ENGS & CONSULTANTS Inc 8 Oct 1970 [8 Oct 1969] 47942/70 Heading F2T In a single acting piston pump, particularly a slush pump for abrasive fluids, in which the cylinder liner 18 is lubricated by a lubricating liquid, the piston is sealed by means comprising a seal 22 on the H.P. side and a seal 24 on the L.P. side of the piston body 20b, the L.P. seal 24 absorbing the lubricant to lubricate the cylinder liner and also acting during the suction stroke to prevent air leakage past the piston. The H.P. seal may be of rubber having a fabric reinforced portion 22b and a sealing lip 22e. The cupshaped L.P. seal 24 comprises a porous sealing member 24a, which may be of duck or felt, bonded to a backing member 24b of oil resistant synthetic rubber. Lubricant such as water or diesel oil fed to the L.P. end of the cylinder through a pipe 21, Fig. 1 (not shown), is absorbed by the L.P. seal 24 and used to lubricate the cylinder liner 18.
