Abstract

1,263,392. Sustained-release medicaments. AMERICAN HOME PRODUCTS CORP. 13 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968; 13 Feb., 1969], No. 24256/69. Heading A5B. A delayed or sustained-release medicament is made by mixing together a drug a carboxy vinyl polymer and polyethylene glycol (P.E.G.) and tableting this mixture together with conventional tablet ingredients. Suitable carboxy vinyl polymers are acrylic acid polymers crosslinked with 0.75 to 2% of a polyallyl ether of sucrose having an average of about 5.8 allyl groups per molecule of sucrose. Suitable P.E.G.'s are those of molecular weight 1000 to 20,000 especially 4000 to 6000. Reference is made to compositions containing numerous known drugs. [GB1263392A]
