Abstract

1,175,482. Corticosteroid compositions. UNIMED Inc. 15 Jan., 1968 [9 March, 1967], No. 2078/68. Heading A5B. Corticosteroid compositions with reduced corticosteroid side effects comprise a corticosteroid and at least one compound selected from beta-(2- or 4- pyridyl) alkyl alkylamines and dialkylamines; 1-(2<SP>1</SP>- or 41-pyridyl)-2, 3- cis- or trans-dicarboxylic acid cyclobutanes; alphapicolinic acid dialkylamides; and non- toxic acid addition salts thereof. Examples of anti-inflammatory corticosteroids include cortisone, cortisone phosphate, hydrocortisone and the acetate and 21-sodium succinate thereof, prednisone, dexamethasone and the sodium phosphate salt thereof, ACTH, corticosterone, 11-dehydrocorticosterone, 11-desoxycorticosterone and aldosterone. Suitable salts include the hydrochloride, sulphate, tartrate, fumarate and gluconate. The compositions may be administered orally, parenterally or topically in the form of tablets, ampoules, drops, suspensions or ointments. Corticosteroid side effects are reduced by administering to a non-human animal simultaneously with, before or after administration of the corticosteroid at least one of the above-mentioned compounds.
