Abstract

A broad band, high speed video amplifier with signal inversion (10), including a generally conventional type primary Cascode amplifier (20) and primary and secondary (14, 16) current intensity elements for the Cascode amplifier connected, capacity wise (CB3, CB2), to the primary Cascode amplifier (20). The primary current amplifier (14) provides the positive current peak (62) in response to an input video signal (22) suddenly decreasing, while the positive current peak (62) supplied by it is fed to the primary Cascode amplifier (20) causing addition of the current peak to the current (1) through the primary amplifier (20) when the amplified video signal (22) becomes positive. The secondary current amplifier (16) provides a negative current peak (64) in response to the video input signal that increases suddenly. This negative current peak (64) supplied by it is fed to the primary Cascode amplifier (20), forcing this current peak to be subtracted from the current (I) through the primary amplifier (20), when the amplified video signal becomes negative (22). The positive and negative peaks (62, 64) force the amplified video output signal (42) to have rise and drop times less than 3,5 nanoseconds under loads (C total) of at least 25 pf at "peak-to-peak" output voltages of at least 40 volts and not exceeding 1,8 nanoseconds at about 20 V peak-to-peak load (C total) of approximately 14.5 pf.
