Abstract

t is disclosed herein a subsidiary braking system designed to assist the braking of vehicle's wheels, which system is composed of two sections, the tyre section () and the hub section (): a) the tyre section comprises the tyre 1, the adjacent to the tyre metal cylinder 2, the first part of the clutching system 5 and the braking disk 10; b) the hub section comprises the second part of the clutching system 6,7, the interior of the hub 4 and the remaining collaborating rotary parts (sub-axles, articulations etc). A ball bearing 3 having its external perimeter caulked at the adjacent to the tyre section metal cylinder 2 and its internal perimeter caulked at the inside part of he hub 4, is permanently connecting the sections () and () (the motion of the section () not influencing themotion of the section ( b). The clutching system engaging the sections () and () is composed of two parts. The first part is consisted of a peripheral concave gear 5 caulked at the tyre section ()and the second of a 'cross' 7 caulked at the hub section 4 with extendable/retractable hydraulic pistons 6 having geared ends 8. When the extended pistons are engaged with the peripheral concave gear5,the first part 5 of the clutching system is blockedby the second part 6,7. Once the pistons are retracted towards the cross, the first part of the clutching system is released from the second. Consequently, when the two parts of the clutching system are engaged, the two parts () and () of the wheel are, also, engaged and liable to rotate as a single body allowing the normal movement of the vehicle. When the two parts of the clutching system are disengaged, the two sections () and () of the wheel are disengaged too, the tyre section () is braking with the braking disk 10 via the bridge 9, and the hub section () is rotating 'in the air' so that the kinetic energy corresponding to its total momentum of inertia can not affect the kinetic energy of the wheel an
