Abstract
An antilocking brake disc assembly comprises a friction disc 12 mounted on a hub 10 by means of a torque spring 11, wherein the disc 12 can revolve independent of the hub 10 when the preset torque of the spring 11 is exceeded. In use, the hub is secured to a drive shaft (not shown), and a brake caliper (not shown) is fitted over the friction disc.
Description
ANTILOCKING BRAKE DISK
This invention relates to an antilocking brake disc.
Braking systems are well known, and are used on many different applications. There is a type of braking system known as an antilocking braking system that uses special equipment to alter the pressure applied to the brake disc. These systems are, however, expensive.moreover maintainance and repair costs can also be high.
According to the present invention there is provided an antilocking brake disc comprising a hub, a spring torque converter and a friction disc.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be descibed by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows in perspective, the antilocking brake disc assembly:
Figure 2 Illustrates drawing in detail,an antilocking brake disc.
figure 3 An assembly drawing of the antilocking brake disc.
Referring to the drawing the antilocking brake disc comprises a hub 10 torque converter spring 11 and friction disc 12.
Hub 10 is secured to drive shaft (not shown) torque spring 11 and friction disc 12 are assembled together as shown in fig 1 afterwhich, brake caliper (not shown) is fitted over the friction disc 12.
When the brakes are applied the caliper pistons (not shown) grip the friction disc 12, slowing it down and applying a force on torque spring 11, when this force reaches the pre-set torque of the spring lithe friction disc 12 will revolve at lower revolutions than that of hub 10 thus avoiding a need for hub 10 to stop revolving completely under heavy breaking, as less power is required progressively during braking the friction disc 12 will begin to revolve in unison with hub 10 again giving a smooth braking action.
Claims (3)
- An antilocking brake disk comprising an hubl0, a torque spring 11 and a friction discl2 with means for securing hub to a drive shaft (not shown) wherein the friction disc 12 has self alignment between brake caliper (not shown).
- 2 An antilocking brake disc as claimed in 1 or claim 2, wherein the torque spring 11 may be variable.
- 3 An antilocking brake disc substantially as decribed herein with reference to figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
