Abstract

A watertight folding life-saving capsule 8, spherical in shape, consisting of a return coil 1 incorporated in a connective covering 9 formed from joining successive folds of material 6 with a zip. Air pockets 12, linked by valves 13, are enclosed inside the connective covering 9 and bottles of compressed air 14 are able to expand the capsule automatically on entry of the user. The capsule is carried compacted on the ship, the user entering by the roof 17. He places his feet on pedals 20 on the base 18 and, having seated and belted himself, the capsule expands by pulling on a lever 28, enclosing him. The roof 17 is then closed with the zip and the capsule is thus sealed. The user, holding the inner plastic ring 21 can walk on the ship and fall safely into the sea without coming into contact with the water. Compared to currently existing life-saving systems, the proposed capsule 8 ensures survival of the user both when falling into the sea and until he is located electronically or optically and picked up by a strong rope 37 by helicopter or ship. The capsule is light and easy to use and can even be used by a 10-year old or even by two people (a mother and child), under adverse weather conditions, with speed and safety and can be re-used after each use.
