Abstract

998,469. Clamp fastenings. G. A. TINNERMAN. March 6, 1962, No. 8600/62. Heading E2B. A mounting clip comprises two opposed spaced arms 29 formed from resilient material, the arms being adapted to be anchored each at one end and bent to form means for gripping an object, the other end portions being formed to provide upstanding shanks 32 and coupling elements 34 angularly disposed with respect to the shanks, one at least of the coupling elements being orificed and at least the other of them having an outwardly bent lug 36 upstanding from the plane thereof and so disposed as to co-operate with the orifice 35 formed in the companion coupling element, the said lug having an edge 37 that is inclined rearwardly and upwardly from the surface of the coupling element in a direction away from the free end of that element to provide at its highest point a shoulder 38 rising from the coupling element, the inclined edge forming a guide to bear against the inner face of the companion coupling element so as to guide the shoulder into the orifice of the companion element when the shanks are pressed towards one another in order to cause the coupling elements to overlap, the arms then serving to grip the object between them when the coupling elements are fastened together. As shown, each arm has a lug 36 and an orifice 35 and each arm is provided with an orifice 30 near the other end by which it can be anchored to a projection on a base to which an object is to be secured. In a second construction (not shown) the arms are formed integrally with a base, the base having an orifice made in such a manner as form a nut for a threaded stud. Alternatively it can be a simple orifice for a nail or other fastening member. Each of the arms in this construction either has a lug and an orifice as in the previous construction or alternatively only one arm has a lug although both have orifices; in this case the arm with the orifice only, is formed, with an offset tongue which helps to guide the coupling element into engagement with the lug of the other arm and also forms levering means for separating the arms when desired.
