997,541. Cutting by fusion. THERMAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION. Sept. 16, 1963 [Oct. 4, 1962], No. 36378/63. Heading B3V. [Also in Division H5] In a constricted arc torch the nozzle 15 containing the arc constricting passage 16 is surrounded by a protective shell 20 electrically insulated from all other parts of the torch and extending beyond the end of the nozzle 15. The arc is struck between the electrode 13 and the nozzle 15 or the work 19. In a modification, Fig. 3, an annular sheath of air flows from passages 27 in an insulating ring 26 interposed between the shell 20 and the nozzle 15. The torch is used for cutting or gouging.
