Abstract

997,259. Boxes. FRUEHAUF CORPORATION. May 5, 1964 [June 21, 1963], No. 18668/64. Heading B8P. A shipping container with vertical side and end walls has comer posts to each end of which, i.e. at each comer of the container, is fixed a steel corner casting such that the comer posts overlie the outer vertical faces of the comer castings. Stainless steel corner posts 12, 14, 16 18 are welded to the steel corner castings 20, 22, 24, 26 and to four similar castings at the bottom of the case as shown so that loads applied to the castings are transmitted in shear to the attached posts which also serve to protect the castings from abrasion during handling. The castings are provided with an aperture 32 to accommodate a lug on a spreader bar (not shown) for lifting purposes.
