Abstract

996,071. Electromagnetic switches. AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC LABORATORIES Inc. Jan. 31, 1962 [July 27, 1961; July 28, 1961; Aug. 21, 1961], No. 3725/62. Heading H2B. [Also in Division H1] A plurality of reed relays are arranged as a matrix on a printed circuit board. In one embodiment each relay comprises four sealed capsules 30 to 33 (Fig. 5) surrounded by operate and hold windings 18. The ends 14 and 24 of the reeds which project beyond the capsules are bent over as shown, whereby the relays may be plugged into corresponding apertures of a printed circuit board (Fig. 3, not shown). In another embodiment the relay comprises a cylindrical bobbin 113 (Fig. 10), having a coil 116 wound thereon and a number of ribs 115 formed therein for locating the capsules 30 to 33. A plurality of terminals, of the form shown in Fig. 12, are located in a base member 122 (Fig. 8) at one end of the relay, the arms 126 of these terminals being attached directly to the reeds 111 at the base end of the relay and being connected to the reeds at the other end of the relay and to the coil by means of flexible conductors, e.g. 123 (Fig. 10).
