Abstract

884,404. Automatic exchange switches. SIEMENS & HALSKE A.G. May 25, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 17738/59. Addition to 797,913. Class 40 (4). In a switch of the type described in the parent Specification, the magnetic shunt paths are provided by one or more suitably deformed sheets of magnetic material extending from one contact spring terminal to the other. As shown, Fig. 2, the contacts, enclosed in tubes, pass through horizontal and vertical operating coils A, C, and a horizontal hold coil H1. The metal sheet 5 comprising the magnetic shunt has troughs 6 to accommodate the horizontal coils and slots to accommodate the vertical coils. The portion of the plate 5 adjacent the contacts is brought close thereto and further portions 15 of the plate are bent at right angles round the contact sets in order to increase the shunt effect. Furthermore the extreme left-hand portion is brought close to the terminals 1, being separated only by a thin strip of insulating material 7. At the other end the plate 5 is kept sufficiently far away from the terminals to all the whole contact set to be withdrawn. The magnetic circuit at this end is completed by a plug-in arrangement, Fig. 3, comprising an insulating holder 10 for the terminals and the attached soldering contacts 9, an insulating plate 11, and plate 12 of magnetic material having fingers 14 adapted to embrace the member 5. The plug in members may be enclosed in a moulded member common to all the contacts between two plates 5. The coil A may be provided with a conducting strip 23, apertured to accommodate the contact sets, this strip acting as a short-circuited winding to make the contacts slow to operate. The vertical coils may have moulded protective covers 18. Alternatively, the covers may be of conductive material again in order to slow up the response of the contact sets. Further magnetic shunt strips 16 may be inserted between contact sets as described in Specification 830,317. In a modification, Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), the vertical coils are replaced by individual coils for each contact set, all the coils in a vertical set being arranged to be energized simultaneously. In this case the plate 5 is provided with a further trough 6 to accommodate the individual vertical coils. Specification 835,180 also is referred to.
