Abstract

995,326. Disc brakes. H. TEVES, E. A. TEVES, and M. TAUSEND, [trading as TEVES MASCHINENUND ARMATURENFABRIK KOMM.-GES. ALFRED]. March 22, 1963 [May 2, 1962], No. 11432/63. Heading F2E. A spot-type hydraulically-actuated disc brake comprises an automatically positioned friction grip adjuster 11, Fig. 1, upon a rod 10 extending into the cylinder of a piston 4 mounting a brake shoe 3, a retraction spring 13 coacting through a support thimble 14 with the adjuster and the piston to bias the latter to the brakedisengaged position against the pressure of liquid admitted to the cylinder through a port 2, a second spring 8 coacting with the adjuster 11 through a second thimble 15 to bias the piston 4 &c. in the brake-engaging direction, such brake engagement being prevented by the abutment of a cover 6 fast with the piston against an adjustment disc 9 itself abutting the second thimble 15, yielding of the second spring 8 occurring when the brake disc wobbles, e.g. when a vehicle in which the brake is used rounds a comer. In a modified construction, two support thimbles 17, 18, Fig. 2, are connected together to form a collar 19, a retraction spring 13 acting through the support thimbles upon an automatically positioned friction grip adjuster 11 mounted upon a rod 10 and also acting upon an adjustment disc 6 screw-threaded into the end of a piston 4 slidable in a surrounding cylinder, a second spring 8 between the flanged end 21 of one of the support thimbles and a mounting ring 22 abutting the adjuster 11 yielding when the brake disc wobbles. Shoe-mounting hydraulic units according to the invention may be used in pairs on opposite sides of the brake disc.
