Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0995256/C2/1> wherein A and B are C1- 4 alkylene groups, R1 and R2 are C1- 3 alkyl groups or together are the divalent group -CH2R5- (wherein R5 is a C1- 4 alkylene group or a -CH2.O.CH2CH2-group), R3 and R4 are C1- 5 alkyl or alkoxy groups or halogen atoms, X #q is the anion of a physiologically acceptable acid, e.g. a halide, and n and m are zero, 1, 2 or 3, with the provisos that neither phenyl group contains an alkyl group, an alkoxy group and a halogen atom and that neither phenyl group contains more than one halogen atom. They may be prepared either by quaternizing a compound of the formula <FORM:0995256/C2/2> with a compound of the formula <FORM:0995256/C2/3> or by quaternizing a compound of the formula <FORM:0995256/C2/4> with the compound R2X. Examples are given. The diamides of the invention, which are stated to be useful in the treatment of heart arrhythmias, may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions in combination with suitable carriers. Granules, capsules, tablets, suppositories, aerosols, solutions and suspensions are mentioned.
