995,208. Rolling. T. A. FOX. June 28, 1963, No. 25787/63. Addition to 904,075. Heading B3M. [Also in Division G3] An improved strip rolling apparatus, as claimed in the parent Specification, includes sensing means adjacent the exit side of the work rolls to measure the thickness of the strip at least at spaced points across the width of the strip, servo means being provided to translate variations in strip thickness into pressure changes in pressure means acting on the ends of the work rolls. Hydraulic cylinders 20 and 21 act as pressure means between the chocks of work rolls 11 and 12 and backup rolls 15 and 15<SP>1</SP>. The strip thickness is measured by fixed or traversing X-ray gauges 40 and 41, or fixed or traversing magnetic gauges. The outputs from the gauges are fed through amplifiers 42 and 43 to servomotors 44 and 45 which control the pressure applied to hydraulic cylinders 46-49.
