A liquid-filled window permitting observation through a concrete wall 27 comprises a concrete block 2 mounted in the wall and having a stepped aperture 1 formed at the ends with recesses 3, 4. The recess 3 at the " hot " end of the window is extended axially in its upper region to form an expansion chamber 40 for the liquid. The aperture 1 up to the recesses 3, 4 has a lining 38 of polyester resin reinforced with glass scrim cloth, the ends of the aperture being closed by transparent panes 12, 15 mounted in frames 10, 14 of glass reinforced epoxy resin. The frame 10 is bonded to the pane 12 whereas the pane 15 is held in frame 14 by clamping members 16 and a gasket is interposed between the pane and the frame. The frames 10, 14 are sealed in the recesses 3, 4 by resin linings 41, 42 and tongues 13 on the frames are bonded to the lining 38 by a layer of scrim cloth and epoxy resin. A glass protecting plate 25 in a moulding 23 is secured by screws 24 to the frame 14. At the " hot " end a block 30 of radiation attenuation glass may be mounted in the wall 27 by lead strips 31, the block being protected by a glass plate 32 in a moulding 33 secured to the wall by screws 35.
