994,263. Platform elevators. A. LODIGE. Feb. 26, 1962, No. 7432/62. Heading B8H. During upward movement of a loading platform 10 a bridge 12 is swung from a vertical to a horizontal position by linkages 27, 26, 25, when a lever 24 abuts a vertically adjustable cam 19, the lever 24 also operates a switch 31 to arrest the movement of the platform. The cam 19 is moved up and down a guide 18 by an endless belt 17 which passes round pulleys 16, 16a, 15 driven by a hand-crank 13. A scale on top of the platform indicates the position of the cam. The levers 23, 24 are concentrically pivoted and urged apart by a spiral spring which prevents damage to the mechanism in the event of the bridge becoming jammed. The bridge has an over-centre action, which occurs at an inclination of 20-30 degrees to the horizontal, and is effected by a spring 28, the effective length and tension of which is adjustable by means of a bolt 29, and the point of attachment of which is adjusted by a sliding sleeve 30. If the platform is not let into the ground the cam 19 may be adjusted directly by hand. The bridge may be lowered by hand in a lower position of the platform or a further cam may be provided for this purpose.
