An animal feeding appliance comprises a storage container 8 embodying a plurality of supply devices 1 having outlets 1a leading to measuring chambers 3b formed by openings in a beam 3a disposed between top and bottom closure members 3c, 5 having apertures that are offset relative to one another, relative displacement of the beam and closure members being effected to discharge foodstuff into a trough. As shown the beam 3a is reciprocated through a rack and pinion 4, 4a, the rack being driven by a motor controlled by a clock so that the feed is dispensed at predetermined intervals. The volume of the measuring chambers is varied by placing inserts e.g. small boards in the openings 3b. In a modification the beam is stationary and the closure members 3c, 5 are movable in opposite directions the upper closure member 3c in this case being separate from the device 1 and comprising an apertured slide. The beam or closure members may be displaced by pneumatic or mechanical means which may act in only one direction, the beam or closure members being returned in the opposite direction by spring means. Provision may be made for wetting the foodstuff as it is discharged into the trough.
